“I think this one is good...but this one is good too...and this one too!” Jessie cried out in excitent as she began grabbing many dresses and outfits and hanging them over her arm.

“She can only wear one outfit at a ti...” Salena pointed out softly.

“She’s right. Let’s try to settle on one. I think sothing simple and not so...showy would be good...” I told them softly.

“What about this one? I think it’s cute and very lady-like...” Salena said as she held an ankle-length light pink dress in front of my body.

“Isn’t that too plain? I think this one is way better...” Jessie said as she held up a sparkly red strapless dress.

“That’s very revealing...” Salena pointed out.

While the two girls argued about which dress would look best on , soone knocked on the door. My first thought was that it must be Mada Cassandra.

“I’ll get the door...” I told the two of them before heading towards the door.

I was right. When I opened the door, Mada Cassandra was standing there; however, she wasn’t alone. The look on her face was sterner than normal while the man standing next to her had an air about him that told that he was soone important.

“The king has summoned for you...” Mada Cassandra announced bluntly.

The king?

“For ?” I asked blankly as I struggled to take in her words.

Why would the king ask to see ?

“Get dressed in your uniform imdiately,” Mada Cassandra instructed.

“Yes, Mada,” I replied instantly.

Even I knew well that I shouldn’t keep the king waiting. I retreated into my room imdiately and opened my small closet to take out my maid uniform.

“What about the dress?” Jessie asked as her hands froze midair while holding up a navy-blue dress.

“So...work ca up so...I’ll be taking off in my maid uniform,” I told them with a tight smile.

If the two girls had heard that I had been summoned by the king, they tried their best not to show their surprise or ask any useless questions. Even if they were to ask what was going on, I wouldn’t have anything to tell them because even I had no idea why I had been suddenly summoned.

I just hoped that it wasn’t because I was in so kind of trouble...

...

**Around the sa ti**

The king sat with his eldest son over a casual ga of chess. It had been a while since the two of them spent ti together alone like this and the king had been looking for this rematch for a while. Due to their busy schedules, finding ti to relax together like this had beco a rare opportunity, especially in the last few months. The king’s brows furrowed as he stared at the pieces on the board before his gaze shifted to Darius’s expressionless face.

Ever since Darius had learned the rules of the ga, the king had never managed to beat his own son even once at this ga. That didn’t keep him from trying over the years only to end up with sa result.

“You really never go easy on ...” the king said with a small laugh.

“Do you want to?” Darius asked flatly.

“No...” the king muttered.

It was Darius’s turn to laugh as he continued watching his father struggle in turning the ga around although the end was already in sight. It would be his victory again to no one’s surprise. He knew well when he was called that this ga wasn’t the king’s main objective of this eting although it did help to pass the ti while they discussed other matters at hand.

“The person that you’ve requested to see should be arriving soon...” Darius told his father casually.

“Are you telling to rush this ga?” the king asked as he narrowed his eyes at his son.

“Not at all. I’m just advising you not to waste ti on sothing that’s already decided...” Darius replied matter-of-factly.

“You bastard...” the king muttered before he laughed loudly at this apparent defeat.

“Let’s head to the main eting hall,” Darius said as he began getting up from his seat.

“Darius...” the king called his na sternly.

Darius paused and sat down on his seat again when he sensed that his father had sothing that he wanted to say, and it was his responsibility to listen when the king has sothing to say.

“Yes, father...” he replied solemnly.

“Why are you so supportive of Leonard taking over the throne? Going so far as to find a mate that he desires for him...” the king asked with unfeigned interest.

“I just happened to notice Leo’s interest in this maid. After all, he was the one who chose to purchase her. That is all,” Darius replied dispassionately.

“I heard about that, and I also heard that he paid a ridiculously high price for her. Well, if she does end up giving birth to an Ultimate Alpha then there isn’t a price too high,” the king said with a nod of his head.

“I agree...” Darius replied flatly.

“You haven’t really answered my question,” the king said as he leaned forward slight across the table to get a better look at his son’s face.

“What is your real question, father?” Darius asked as if he had no clue.

“Don’t you want to be king, Darius?” the king asked.

“Absolutely not,” Darius replied imdiately.

The king laughed loudly at the expected response from his eldest son. He found it strange that Darius was so against the idea of becoming king.

“Your mother would be so disappointed in that response of yours,” he said while still laughing.

“It is enough that you are taking care of her well...” Darius replied.

“She’s not a bad woman, although she may be very ambitious...” the king said before smiling fondly.

“Thank you for your kindness towards my mother,” Darius said.

“Let’s go. I’m really looking forward to eting this young lady who seed to have captured the interest of so many and in such a short ti...” the king said with an amused chuckle.

“Please don’t be too assertive, Your Majesty,” Darius said formally.
