“Well, everyone knows why Lady Regina moved to live in the palace all of a sudden. Even the dumb and blind can figure out that she’s been plotting with her father for herself to beco the next queen. Apparently, Lady Regina and Prince Leonard are close, so people have really high hopes for her as the next queen...” Jessie continued to explain.
They are close...
“I see. Well, that doesn’t really have anything to do with . You two are right not to believe in the rumors because it’s not true. I haven’t been trying to get close to any of the princes...” I told them truthfully.
I haven’t tried to get close to any of them; however, it wasn’t like I could get away from them completely when they just keep popping up like random in my life.
“I’m sure people are just jealous, so you don’t have to worry about it...” Jessie said before she grinned at .
“Right...” I whispered.
I could hear their unspoken thought as their eyes lingered on the fashionable blue dress that I had on. Unlike them, I was no longer in my maid uniform. Although they did not say it, I felt like even my friends must have started to believe at least so parts of the rumors. Thankfully, they didn’t press for further details about the dress or the reason behind the order for to stay in my room.
“Don’t overthink things, Mila. I’m sure that if you are good, only good things will co to you,” Salena told in her sweet and small voice.
Her innocent smile when she said that made want to believe her words wholeheartedly. If only we could believe that things were that simple, life would be that much easier and happier.
“Thank you, I’ll do just that. I’m sure you two will be promoted soon, although, I think not being promoted might be better and less complicated...” I said with a dry laugh.
“I want to work for a kind lady. I wonder if any of the honorable maidens are kind...” Jessie said before pursing her lips in thought.
“I don’t know about that. I’m sure that so of them must be kind...” I replied.
“I want to work in the library, but it seems like only senior maids or those specially chosen are allowed to work there...” Salena said followed by a depressed sigh.
“The library...” I murmured.
Now that I thought about it, I didn’t even know where the library was in the palace. My lips curved into a smile as our conversation shifted to more relaxing topics. I wished that one day, my dear friends will have their small wishes granted.
...
**The following evening**
I didn’t hear anything from Prince Leonard on my second day of solitary confinent in my room. The only comfort that I received was the visits from my two friends who ca to see for every single al starting from breakfast, then lunch, and then dinner early in the evening after they ca back from work.
Although he didn’t send word for , Prince Leonard still managed to make my life complicated even without showing his face. My two friends stared in amazent at the two racks of flashy and colorful clothes that I had in my room. When they were first rolled into my room, I was more than surprised and shocked too.
The senior maids that delivered them didn’t say anything much to after informing formally that Prince Leonard had instructed for these dresses to be delivered to my room. As for the reason why he had all of these outfits delivered to , I had absolutely no clue. If I had thought that the dress from yesterday was all that I would receive from him, I was poorly mistaken. I watched my two dear friends while thinking that the reactions that they were having must be very similar to mine when I first laid eyes on the massive amount of clothing that lined the two racks.
“This is also from Prince Leonard,” one of the senior maids had said when she handed a maroon envelope.
After they left alone in the room, I opened the sealed envelope to find a handwritten note.
‘Choose an outfit for this evening,’
The ssage was short and concise, and it was left unsigned. He didn’t need to sign it for to know who the note was from.
His handwriting...is very beautiful...
My heart skipped a beat in my chest before I felt a strange fluttering feeling in my belly as I held the handwritten note tightly in my hand. I didn’t know how many tis I read that simple phrase over and over again although it wasn’t at all hard to understand.
Even if he told to pick out an outfit from what he had delivered to , I didn’t have the slightest clue about which outfit to choose. After the fluttering of my heart had cald down, I approached the rack of clothes before hesitantly reaching out a hand to touch one of the dresses that hung from a hanger. Everything just looked so flashy and fancy that I found it hard to imagine these garnts on . By the ti dinner ca around, I still haven’t figured out which outfit to choose.
Why does Prince Leonard want to pick an outfit for this evening?
Will I get to see him?
“Umm...would you like to help pick out an outfit?” I asked a little shyly as I turned to face my dear friends.
“Sure!” both of them replied enthusiastically.
I watched as the two girls approached the lines of clothes and began going through the outfits. At least that distracted them enough to keep them from asking where the clothes ca from. Jessie made loud noises of excitent as she pulled out dress after dress to stare at it while I giggled at her reaction. Salena seed more thoughtful as she evaluated each dress in order before holding up a few against my body.
