Chapter 1088: Is it worth it?

“You made a mistake in your story. He didn’t lie to his girlfriend about their son’s death. My second grandson… He was really stillborn,” she said confidently, but with a hint of sadness.

“It was another blow for him. In the end, I helped him fake that girl’s death and hid her from the eyes of the family.”

“It was only with her that Adrian was himself and found solace.”

Upon hearing this absurd statement, Idan couldn’t help but laugh, which, of course, amazed Eleanor. She blinked her red-rimmed eyes, not understanding why this young man had suddenly burst out laughing.

“Who would have thought that he lied to his mother, too?”

He looked at Eleanor, his blood grandmother, and didn’t know how to treat her now—to be angry or not. At the same time, he wondered: “How would she react to him if she found out that he was the dead second grandson and that he was alive?”

“If she had known earlier, could she have secretly helped Yvette and Adam raise him the way she helped Estelle?”

“Or would you take him away from them and return him to the Blake family?”

And then these questions made Idan think that maybe Adrian deliberately lied about his stillbirth in order to hide his existence from the Blake family forever. He even took advantage of his mother’s trust to hide and even legitimize it.

Idan couldn’t say exactly what had prompted Adrian to do this to him.

But it didn’t matter.

Ever since Idan found out that his “father” was alive, he accepted for himself that as soon as he found him, he would beat him up properly.

“It’s only now, after so many years, that I realized that I shouldn’t have supported all these lies.”

In the last three years, Eleanor has realized that her decision to support and cover up Adrian’s lies was a mistake.

“When the world changed, Adrian finally decided to give up his true identity and take on the form of Damian.”

“Now, when I look at him, all I feel is pain and guilt.”

“I can’t recognize my Adrian in him, but at the same time I see my dead Damian in him.”

“So that he wouldn’t lose touch with reality, I brought him back together with Estelle and their son Ryan,” she confessed.

“Although it helped him a little, the birth of the twins reminded him of his brother and his guilt.”

Eleanor, having spoken out on emotion and as if having thrown off a heavy burden from her soul, only after a moment began to realize that she might have blurted out too much.

After listening to Eleanor, Idan suddenly remembered old Hans from the Blake family, and his gaze landed on Eleanor. After learning all these details, he had every reason to believe that it was Eleanor who was behind Hans’ actions.

“Lady Eleanor, what about your granddaughter?”

“Are you following them or, like your son, have you severed all ties with them?”

Idan’s sudden question about her grandson made Eleanor frown and look at Idan suspiciously.

Earlier, in a fit of intense emotion, she had missed this part of the story.

Few people knew about Adrian’s daughter. She did her best to make sure no one found out about it.

Her already middle-aged but still active mind tried to figure out who could have found out about this. Then she would be able to find out who is in front of her, or at least understand who this young man has a connection with.

“Don’t try to guess who I am, just answer my question.”

Idan quickly guessed what she was thinking, looking at her silence.

“I seem to have inherited the habit of thinking a lot from her.”

In this regard, he found some similarities with her.

The cat had already been released from the bag, and the young man in front of her was already aware of her granddaughter’s existence. Therefore, it was useless to deny anything. On the contrary, she quickly realized that she could use his help.

“I do not know where they are. I sent my trusted person to keep an eye on them and help them move to a safer place if necessary, but I lost contact with him. Now I do not know where my daughter-in-law and granddaughter are.”

“Eh…” sighed Idan, looking down.

“I was right. She was the one who sent old Hans.”

Eleanor, watching his sigh, misinterpreted his reaction.

“Doesn’t he know where my granddaughter is?” A thought flashed through her mind.

“Lady Eleanor, tell me this…” Idan raised his eyes and stared intently at her face.

“Why is it that when most of the members of the Blake family have submitted to the Creatures of Fire and bee so-called Contractors, you are still an ordinary mortal and live alone in seclusion?”

“Because I’m not stupid.”

“The others obeyed.”

“The others have sold out,” she replied calmly. “And free cheese only es in a mousetrap.”

There was silence between them for a moment.

“So you understood everything,” Idan said.

“From the very beginning. Not all. But it’s enough not to kneel before something that doesn’t e from our world. The current Blake family is not the same as it was before.”

“What were the Blakes like before?” asked Idan, frowning.

“The Blakes have never bowed to outsiders before. They did not ask for strength from those who would demand their soul in payment. We could be cruel, proud, stubborn, but it was ours. Our name, our blood, our will. And what’s here now… She looked around the room in disgust, —it’s not Blakey anymore.”

Idan looked away, as if considering her words, and then looked directly at her again.

“And she stayed here anyway.”

Eleanor smiled bitterly.

“Where was I supposed to go?” she shook her head slightly. “This is my home. My son is here, and my Damian is buried here. My husband’s house. Even if there’s nothing left of the person I married.”

“Wait,” Eleanor stopped him. “You still haven’t revealed who you are.”

“Is it worth it?” asked Idan, and then said, “Ned.”

A young man in black instantly appeared next to them, attracting Eleanor’s attention.

“Let’s go,” Idan said, and Ned used the “concealment” to hide them both.

Seeing that Eleanor wasn’t going to insist, Idan nevertheless decided to say his last word to her before leaving.

“I’m a dead man born of Adrian’s lies, and I’m trying to make sense of the chaos he’s created.”
