Chapter 1087: Eleanor’s revelation.
Eleanor’s tears confirmed Idan’s assumption.
Earlier, he had already received important information that helped him put all the main pieces of the puzzle together.
This information was given to him by Cristina.
Idan had been wrong all along, and his doubts were well-founded. The “Threads of One Blood” artifact had no flaws. It could tell the twins apart and considered them different personalities.
This information allowed Idan to understand that Ryan, himself, Ina, and the two twins are all children of the same person, Adrian.
In a very short time, Idan acquired an older brother, and recently learned that, in addition to his younger sister, he now has two younger twin brothers.
There was no doubt about that now.
Idan felt a little confused. And annoyed at the so-called blood father.
His visit to Eleanor was, to some extent, an attempt to piece together the remaining small pieces of the puzzle.
Idan, having received the answer, did not stop. Eleanor’s tears didn’t make him stop there. After a short pause, he continued:
“The further development of the remaining brother’s story is just my guess.”
“After his brother’s funeral, the first brother returned to his beloved, who gave birth to his son. He lied to her that their son was stillborn, faked her death, and began living with her in secret.”
“Next to her, he was himself, and in the eyes of his family, he was a second brother.”
“They lived together for eighteen years, and during that time they had a daughter.”
“But everything changed when the world turned upside down overnight.”
“Then he made the decision to give up his true identity by faking his death. He left his wife and daughter alone, believing that he was protecting them, and returned back to the family as a second brother.”
“Eventually, he reconnects with his former love, who gave birth to his first son. And as a result, they have two twin sons.”
Idan smiled ironically.
“Lady Eleanor, don’t you think this oute is a little ironic for him?”
“Are there any points in the story that you would like to correct?”
Eleanor, wiping a tear with a snow-white handkerchief, raised her eyes and, looking at him, asked with still lingering emotions:
“Who are you?”
Even seeing her insistence on finding out who he was, Idan wasn’t going to reveal his secret—that he was the son of the very first brother in the story and her grandson. At least not right now.
He shook his head, “It doesn’t matter who I am. But if you insist, then I’ll reveal my identity at the end.”
Eleanor longed to know who was sitting in front of her. Who is this person who was able to reveal the truth that she had been hiding for so many years?
However, she faced his persistence and still gave up and decided to wait for the end to finally understand who he was.
Eleanor remained silent for a long time, and then, with a slight sadness, she began to plete his story.
“My boys… I loved them both and I still love them…”
“After all, they are my only children.”
She started from the beginning, talking about how she watched them grow up and how proud she was of them. At the same time, she tried not to spoil them too much and not show too much of her emotions.
“When Adrian left, I learned from Damian about my first grandson,” Eleanor smiled for the first time in front of Idan’s eyes.
“My Damian never hid anything important from me.”
“He might have been hiding something from his father and others, but not from me.”
“Knowing that my husband would not accept a grandson from the outside, I decided to follow Damian’s advice and just secretly watch this poor girl Estelle and help her.”
“So she was in the know and secretly helping Estelle?” Idan raised his eyebrows slightly.
When she got to the point where Damian was sent to bring Adrian back after learning that he got together with some girl and she got pregnant, Eleanor stopped.
No matter how hard she tried to contain her emotions, tears still began to flow from her eyes.
“Ah… I’m sorry…I’m sorry…” she repeated, apologizing and feeling embarrassed for her condition. She tried to wipe her tears with her handkerchief.
It took her a while to calm down and continue the conversation.
“You’re right… Then it wasn’t Damian who returned, but Adrian.… No matter how hard he tried to deceive everyone, I immediately realized it as soon as I saw him.”
“My Damian… he’s…”
But before she could finish, the tears started pouring out of her eyes again, and she couldn’t stop them. It was very unusual for her. She was usually reserved and calm, and she was able to control her emotions.
But now, being in front of a young man, for some reason she couldn’t control her emotions.
She thought that maybe she had kept everything to herself for too long, and the fact that someone had found out her secret had finally broken the dam, and everything that had accumulated had spilled out.
“For our whole family, one of the brothers died then…” said Eleanor with tears in her eyes.
“But for me… I lost both of my boys that day,” she confessed.
“I didn’t recognize the man who brought my son’s body as my Adrian…”
“He was a pletely different person… broken and immersed in self-blame over Damian’s death.”
“In front of me, he didn’t stop blaming himself for his brother’s death.”
“And that he should have been there, not Damian.”
The tears wouldn’t stop flowing, and Eleanor stopped again to wipe them away and try to pull herself together.
Idan, watching Eleanor and listening to her, became a little immersed in her emotions himself. He felt something constrict in his chest, and the corners of his eyes slightly moistened.
“Phew!” Idan took a deep breath, forcing his cold reason to prevail over his sudden outburst of sympathy.
Eleanor didn’t just know about the substitution, she lived with this knowledge for decades, seeing her son every day as a living reminder of the tragedy and his own broken will.
“So you let him do it,” Idan said softly, as the silence in the garden became almost palpable. “You allowed Adrian to bury himself under the name Damian so that he could carry this burden for the rest of his days.”
Eleanor nodded slowly, her hands shaking as she folded the handkerchief. “What could I do? To reveal the truth would be to destroy him pletely. He believed that by being Damian, he would be able to atone for the guilt he had laid on himself. But he didn’t understand that you can’t build a life on a foundation of lies and ashes.”
After a short pause, she continued:
“To prevent him from breaking down pletely, I helped him leave his family and return to his beloved.”
“But who knew that tragedy awaited him there, too?”
“Hmm?” Idan frowned. Seeing his expression, Eleanor said:
“You made a mistake in your story. He didn’t lie to his girlfriend about their son’s death. My second grandson… He was really stillborn,” she said confidently, but with a hint of sadness.
“It was another blow for him. In the end, I helped him fake that girl’s death and hid her from the eyes of the family.”
“It was only with her that Adrian was himself and found solace.”
