As the kingdom of Faraway faced the winged threat, its southern neighbors, the kingdom of Nonearby, were torn apart by a terrible civil war that quickly spilled across their borders. The rebel forces, supporting the throne claimant Olrik against the king’s forces backed by the Empire, took refuge in the southern part of Faraway, in the earldom of Thotherside.

Using their presence and the threat posed by these enemies of the monarchy as a pretext, the armies of Nonearby invaded the earldom and annexed it to their kingdom. Greatly weakened by recent events and no longer able to compel the dragon to hunt the invaders, the monarchy of Faraway grudgingly accepted this occupation. It nonetheless prepared its long-term revenge, relying on the wealth amassed from neighboring lands to pay the dragon’s tribute.

However, in the famous Northern War that followed a few years later, Faraway saw its neighbors Overthere and Seaside turn against it, demanding repaynt of the tribute and a share of the treasure. Attacked on two fronts by enemies remotely supported by the Central Empire, the independent kingdom of Faraway fell and beca an imperial province under the authority of the powerful Margrave of the North.
