In the year 386 (Faraway reckoning) or 1226 (Imperial reckoning), the powerful Sorcerer-king of the Mountain rose in the southern Boût range.
While the terrible red dragon Azracha, who had co from the North, held the country in terror, a mighty mage from elsewhere destroyed the dragon with a great column of light, visible across the entire land. Seizing the treasure and the lair, the magician established their own kingdom, to which the Boût monsters—forrly serving Azracha—submitted.

The Sorcerer-king of the Mountain is a mysterious figure, about whom little is known. So accounts claim the ruler is an elven lady of unparalleled beauty; others speak of a gaunt, angular man who spends his ti cackling; yet others describe a disembodied form seated upon a throne of fire, and so on. It is certain that the truth has been lost amid tavern tales, and that many so-called scholars of our academy are rather unreliable sources.
In any case, the establishnt of a magitocratic principality fundantally changed the balance of the region. All trembled, wondering whether this new power would be benevolent or malevolent.
