In the year 1226 of the Central Empire reckoning, the small northern kingdom of Faraway was wiped from the map by fire and fury unleashed by the great red dragon Azracha. The kingdoms of Seaside and Overthere also fell, while the kingdom of Nonearby reverted to a military March bordering wild and uncultivated lands after half its territory was devastated by the monster.
The Human race was almost entirely exterminated from the northern lands, and the few survivors learned to live in hiding, watching fearfully for the red shadow that could appear in the sky.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
It is said that this disaster was triggered by the killing of a dragon hatchling by an infamous person long forgotten by history, due to there being too few survivors to leave a credible account. This story is probably legendary, as red dragons are known to abandon their offspring and to tolerate no potential rivals in their territory. So scholars nevertheless argue that if the hatchling had been female, a male dragon might eventually have tolerated her presence, making the tale plausible, though quite rare.
In any case, this is the tragic history of the Northern Wastelands. Even today, it is said that smoke from the dragon still rises from Mount Boût’s Tooth, reputed to house the beast’s lair… though very few expeditions ever return from such a perilous venture.
THE END.
