Chapter 771: Chapter 72: Scared to Death—So I Just Have to Betray You? (Part 2)

In the firelight, Edwin also saw his own hands, withered and aged like chicken claws, and his eyes widened instantly.

“I, I, why am I like this?!”

Edwin’s body trembled constantly, and in those brief seconds, he aged a bit more.

“It seems to be those things that flew out just now,” Hewinia contemplated, “Can they drain human life? No… it should be vitality.”

Hewinia glanced at her own body, finding she was not affected, likely thanks to the Seven Notes.

“It seems we can’t continue any further,” Hewinia lifted her head to look at the exit above, “Let’s head back first to see if there’s any way… Are you listening to ?”

Hewinia found Edwin was continuously shaking his head, muttering: “No, I can’t be like this… I’m almost there, just about there… I can’t be like this.”

“What’s gotten into you?” Hewinia felt sothing was off with Edwin and asked again.

But Edwin still did not respond; in that faint firelight, his elderly eyes were vacant.

Could it be…

A bad suspicion arose in Hewinia’s heart, and after observing Edwin carefully for a while, she confird her guess was true.

Edwin’s brain had aged along with his body.

Right now, he had truly beco a decrepit old man, nearly buried in the ground, with his cognitive abilities deteriorated to the point he couldn’t even hear when Hewinia shouted at him—soon enough, he might not even rember who he was.

Damn, could those creatures really do this?

Hewinia frowned tightly.

This is truly an unexpected situation. She didn’t know how to reverse Edwin’s current state and dared not rashly use a spell, fearing it might summon sothing bizarre again.

So, what to do now? Delving deeper was clearly impossible, but should she just bring Edwin back up?

But above is not necessarily any safer than here, especially considering Edwin’s current state rendered him a complete burden.

While Hewinia was pondering, Edwin was still murmuring to himself.

“I’ve already made it here… just about there… can’t turn back…”

He slowly turned his head, looking towards the abyss ahead, as if a voice echoed in his mind.

No choice but to bring him up, staying here longer only increased the danger.

Just as Hewinia made her decision, Edwin suddenly shouted, “No! I can’t go back!”

Then he charged madly towards the abyss in front of him. Hewinia was taken aback and instinctively tried to grab Edwin, but his movent was too swift for her unprepared hand, and she could only watch as he plunged into the abyss.

The sudden incident left Hewinia montarily stunned.

This guy just jumped?

He was about to forget who he was, yet he still rembered what he wanted to do?

Hewinia felt a headache, for though it was fine if he was gone, the ear was still with him.

Without the ear, Hewinia didn’t know how to re-establish contact with Bai Wei.

Why was I so slow to react?! Didn’t even keep track of that!

Hewinia was deeply annoyed, but she knew that regretting now was pointless, and she could only think of the next steps.

Hewinia forced herself to calm down.

The most important task now was to find a part of a corpse with rules to establish contact with Bai Wei, but venturing further was not an option. Who knew where Edwin had fallen?

Then, should she go back? But even if she returned, she didn’t know where to find the corpse part, and she certainly wasn’t a match for Isaiah.

Wait.

Hewinia recalled the scent of Visas she detected on those monsters earlier.

Could those things also be controlled by so part of a corpse?

If so…

Hewinia lifted her head, looking towards the path from which they ca.

Having once again witnessed Isaiah’s power, Rocky decisively made a decision that was not difficult for him.

After all, as he couldn’t win anyway, there was no need to struggle.

Although he truly hated to part with the finger that had accompanied him for so many years—every morning when he woke up, he would use that finger to motivate himself, and to Rocky, that finger almost surpassed everything he had.

Except life.

After all, if life was gone, then there was no point in raising however many thumbs there were.

As for Diana, he could only wish her good luck.

Isaiah gazed silently at Rocky, showing no surprise at his choice, just…

“I thought you would have faced before making a decision,” Isaiah said lightly.

“It’s aningless,” Rocky replied, “I’m sure I’m no match for you, now I just want to live, please keep your promise.”

Isaiah nodded slightly, “Of course, I won’t touch soone who has lost their will to fight, but…”

As Isaiah’s tone suddenly shifted, Rocky’s heart leaped to his throat.

“Since you’ve already t the ring finger,” Isaiah said slowly, “I need you to tell her identity.”

Rocky’s tensed heart relaxed imdiately.

Ah, he’s just asking to sell out Diana, not anything major.

He nodded repeatedly, “No problem.”

“Take there now.”

“Sure thing!” Rocky got up swiftly, “Just follow .”

“Give the finger first.”

“Oh, right.” Rocky patted his head, “Almost forgot.”

Rocky’s behavior left Mina speechless, but she didn’t say much, just looked at her teacher.

Although Isaiah hadn’t explicitly stated it, Mina had guessed his intentions.

Evidently, Isaiah wanted to gather all visible corpse parts before dealing with Aine Hagar.

So, after dealing with the ring finger, the teacher’s next target would certainly be Hand Eye, who has yet to appear.

By then, the teacher would possess eight corpse parts at once.

The last person with so many corpse parts was Visas himself.

In this way, not even Aine Hagar could be a match for the teacher, right?

As Mina mused, she suddenly noticed a Guardian corpse next to Rocky move.

Before she could look closely, that Guardian leapt up, firmly grabbing Rocky’s leg.

Rocky was startled, imdiately looking down to see the Guardian with half its face ruined open its mouth, emitting a haunting female voice.

“Why betray , Mr. Thumb?” the Guardian said, “Didn’t we agree to deal with this guy together?”

Ring finger?!!

Rocky realized and imdiately tried to push away the corpse, but as soon as he raised his hand, he felt heavy.

Because yet another corpse pounced on him.

Then the third, the fourth.

They spoke in unison.

“Why betray ?”

“Didn’t we agree to fight together?”

“You’ve made so sad, so sad…”

Each grievance uttered from the corpses’ mouths, carrying a peculiar eeriness.

Soon, Rocky was drenched in cold sweat, with even his cries gradually drowned out.

Seeing this, Isaiah remained unresponsive, rely observing calmly.

Only when those corpses directed their hollow gaze at him did he speak: “Nice to see you, Miss Ring Finger.”

“You shouldn’t have co here,” the corpses spoke in unison.

“Such words are unnecessary,” Isaiah said, “I offer you the sa terms as Bishop Rocky—hand over the corpse part, and I’ll spare your life.”

“Hehehe…” the corpses laughed eerily, “That’s impossible, Mr. Isaiah. You can’t return, nor can I…”

As the last word fell, innurable shadows surged from the cell, covering half the night sky.

They flapped their wings, letting out shrill screeches.

Thus Isaiah’s body swiftly aged.

“The Contract is lifted, Mr. Isaiah,” spoke the human voice amid the sharp cries of the monsters soaring in the night sky, “I can’t go back either, so… let’s die together.”
