Chapter 770: Chapter 72: Scared to Death—So I Just Have to Betray You?

Inside the prison, Edwin and Hewinia continued to delve deeper.

With the prior warning of the sealed magic stone golem, neither dared to use Magic Power lightly. The only source of light was the dim torch in Edwin’s hand, making the atmosphere inside the prison very oppressive, with only the sound of their heavy breathing and footsteps audible between them.

“What are you thinking about?” Edwin finally broke the silence first.

Hewinia glanced at Edwin and said blandly, “I’m wondering if it’s too late to turn back now.”

“Haha, you really like to joke.”

Hewinia said nothing.

Edwin imdiately grew nervous: “You really don’t want to turn back, do you? Co on, we’ve already co this far.”

“That kind of talk doesn’t apply to this situation.” Hewinia said, “Right now, I can’t even use Magic. Continuing downward is just sending ourselves to death.”

“You can’t say that; there’s not necessarily another stone golem below.” Edwin said, “The sealed magic stone golems also conflict with other creatures. The Contract Land can’t possibly place two conflicting species together, otherwise, they would just kill each other, right? So once we get past this, maybe we’ll be able to use Magic Power again.”

“But as you said, below there will definitely be sothing more troubleso than the sealed magic stone golems.” Hewinia said, “Can the corpses of dead gods really be dealt with by the likes of us?”

Hewinia had so understanding of the dead gods, but this understanding didn’t stem from Edwin’s earlier example of the Rhein Devourer, as she had never seen such a thing.

But don’t forget, Hewinia had lived in Lyra for a period, where Ina naturally told her about the disaster in Lyra six months ago and the source that caused it—the Pollution Zone.

The Pollution Zone contained the corpses of the gods, very much fitting Edwin’s definition of “dead gods.” The difference between the two is probably that the Abyss Prison here is controllable, while Lyra’s forr Pollution Zone was uncontrollable.

The result of uncontrollability was that the whole of Lyra was nearly destroyed.

If it weren’t for the sacrifice of Ina’s father and Bai Wei’s intervention, there would no longer be a place called Lyra in the world.

So from a certain perspective, even the dead gods are difficult to handle, let alone the living ones, and the Abyss Prison just piled such dangerous things below.

Is it fear of Visas that outweighs everything?

However, for Hewinia, she doesn’t intend to deal with such dangerous things, and she knows clearly that with her and Edwin’s capabilities, reaching the deepest part of the prison is entirely impossible.

She truly is not afraid of death, but she doesn’t want to die aninglessly, at least she needs to ensure she can help Bai Wei. So now, she plans to explore a bit ahead, see if she can gather so information, and wait for Bai Wei’s next instructions.

After all, Bai Wei’s ear is still on Edwin, and when the ti cos to make a decision, she can simply take that ear and connect it, then directly ask Bai Wei what should be done… Hmm?

Hewinia stopped in her tracks.

She suddenly sensed an extrely dangerous aura, coming from below.

She was about to warn Edwin, but soon there was no need.

Because a violent tremor ca from below.

“What’s going on?” Edwin was shocked, “Is sothing climbing up from below?!”

Indeed, sothing was climbing up from below at a very fast speed!

Valnim, acting on impulse, quickly extinguished the torch in Edwin’s hand and then pulled him against the wall.

A few seconds later, countless creatures shot up from the ground.

Or more accurately, they flew out.

Without a light source, they couldn’t see them clearly, but they could hear the intense and loud flapping of wings. Especially in the sealed prison, the constantly resonating echo could practically shatter eardrums.

This process lasted for a full minute before these creatures finally left.

“Damn…” Edwin was already in a daze from the noise, barely able to stand, “What the hell were those things?”

Hewinia’s condition was much better than Edwin’s — with the blessing of the Seven Notes, she could recover slowly as long as she wasn’t killed instantly.

“Probably the corpses of the gods you ntioned earlier.” Hewinia said lightly, “I felt divinity in them, and a very familiar…”

Hewinia wasn’t sure if it was an illusion, but she seed to feel Visas’s power in those creatures.

“Really?” Edwin still felt his head buzzing, “I didn’t feel it, it was just too noisy, those things were… hmm?”

He suddenly thought of sothing, belatedly realizing.

“Wait, all those guys went up, so doesn’t that an… it’s empty below now?! Hahaha, doesn’t that an we have one less group to deal with… cough cough cough.” Edwin couldn’t even finish speaking before he started coughing fiercely.

Hewinia frowned slightly.

Because she noticed Edwin’s voice sounded a bit off, she quickly lit the torch and shone it at Edwin.

She was startled to discover that Edwin’s face was covered with wrinkles, as if he’d aged more than ten years in an instant, looking as if he was about to drop dead at any mont!

“Why are you looking at like that… cough cough, what’s happening to ?!”
