Chapter 423: Chapter 423: Teacher ng’s Anxiety
In the resident trainees’ dormitory, everyone was also discussing with each other.
“Ah, the doctor I’m following is just an undergraduate who ca to the ergency departnt three years ago. I reckon my skills are even higher than his!” a man sighed, “I guess they just want to write dical records!”
“The state wants us to undergo standardized training to improve our quality, but now it seems that so doctors’ skills are not even as good as ours!” another man said with a laugh.
For them, participating in the residency program was rely to get a training certificate, which would help them successfully apply for professional titles.
Many of them were not young, lots in their thirties, and there were also so in their forties.
“Xu Dongdong, the doctor you’re following, I heard he’s just an undergraduate. You’re a graduate student yourself; you might even teach him sothing,” a man in his thirties said with a smile.
Xu Dongdong listened but just smiled without saying much, as he could see that Chen Cang’s knowledge far exceeded his own.
“He has much more clinical experience than I do, and there’s a lot I can learn from him.” Xu Dongdong smiled again, not making any excuses, but he felt there was no need to belittle Chen Cang.
In the entire room, there were four people, all in ergency dicine and around thirty years old. Xu Dongdong had the highest education but was the youngest.
“Hehe, Xu Dongdong, you’re just too young. Let tell you, not everyone in provincial-level hospitals is capable; many get in through connections or back doors!” the man who had started the conversation said, pretending to be mature.
Xu Dongdong felt that arguing about these things was aningless, so he just nodded and smiled.
After two months at Lancy County People’s Hospital, Xu Dongdong found a clear difference between big and small hospitals is that in the smaller ones, people beco less keen on learning over ti, or there’s no healthy competitive atmosphere. Maybe they beco complacent, or maybe…
Essentially, they treat dicine as a job, not a career, and the competition is not in dical skills or academia, but in networking.
Many things they consider mature and worldly-wise are actually just excuses to numb their own progress. In Xu Dongdong’s opinion, true sagacity and maturity are about how to improve one’s own abilities — work capacity, professional skills, and the ability to adapt to the environnt.
Of course, this is not to say that everyone is like that, but Xu Dongdong felt that many people had this ntality.
Xu Dongdong suddenly recalled the earnest words of his graduate teacher when he signed with Lancy County People’s Hospital: “Xu Dongdong, after you go there, don’t beco too comfortable, don’t forget to study, and don’t be too swayed by others.”
Now, he understood these words even more deeply.
As for the Second Provincial Hospital, he wouldn’t judge for the mont, but having spent just one day here, Xu Dongdong saw that the doctors, young or old, educated or not, always discussed and pondered over issues whenever they had ti, whether clinical or academic. They would even read books whenever they had a chance.
This wasn’t for show; it was a habit!
The gap was very clear.
The three middle-aged n in the room chatted for a bit after returning, made calls ho, and started scrolling through short videos. Xu Dongdong opened a surgical video on his phone and began watching.
After all, this was his specialty, and he should work on improving himself.
…
…
In the cardiac surgery office at Eastern University First Hospital.
ng Xi was sitting on a stool with her legs crossed, the top button of her white coat undone, and her arms folded across her chest.
She was pondering so issues: Why hasn’t Chen Cang co by recently?
Was it because she didn’t do a good job?
Perhaps she was too strict normally?
Or was she not caring enough towards Chen Cang?
It was ng Xi’s first ti playing the role of a teacher, having never taught before, and she wondered if she did sothing wrong as Chen Cang stopped coming.
Truth be told, ng Xi was quite satisfied with Chen Cang.
Hardworking, diligent, effortful, progressive!
And most importantly, gifted!
Even more formidable than those so-called “genius” classmates who think so highly of themselves!
But why isn’t Chen Cang coming?
When ng Xi encountered issues, she liked to self-reflect. She wondered if there was sothing wrong with the way she dealt with Chen Cang.
Or maybe… does Chen Cang think I can’t teach him?
Rembering the surgeries, ng Xi’s face would flush red. What was she comparing them to? If she didn’t show so real skills soon, Chen Cang might really start to “look down” on her!
With this thought, a surge of energy welled up in ng Xi’s chest. Looking at the three unmarried doctoral students beside her, each boiling with passion and walking on eggshells, filled with both fear and trembling!
ng Xi wasn’t concerned, as her mind was occupied with figuring out how to properly play the role of Teacher ng.
First, she felt she should impress Chen Cang and let him know how formidable she was!
But, before that, maybe she should have a good talk with Chen Cang, see what he wants to learn, and then…
…
…
After finishing work, Chen Cang couldn’t continue his romantic ti with Qin Xiaotian and hurriedly made his way to the Cardiac Surgery Departnt at Dongda First Hospital.
Qin Xiaotian sent a ssage on WeChat, “Don’t you dare flirt with the female doctors!”
Chen Cang felt a pang of embarrassnt. Are won’s intuitions always so accurate?
Anyway, I just want to impress my female teacher!
Chen Cang felt his thoughts were innocent, his ideas pure, and his soul clean!
To say “flirting” would definitely be inappropriate.
Ten minutes later, Chen Cang arrived at the Cardiac Surgery Departnt of Dongda First Hospital.
He had thought Teacher ng might be unhappy, but upon arrival, ng Xi just gave him a faint smile and said, “You’re here!”
Chen Cang was taken aback and nodded, still a bit unaccustod… he could only offer a sheepish smile, “This… Teacher ng, I’ve been a bit busy lately, yesterday…”
ng Xi shook her head, smiling and said, “It’s fine.”
Although ng Xi had been a teaching assistant at the Karolinska Institute, she still felt under pressure when it ca to ntoring a graduate student alone, especially a gifted and willing one!
But… no matter what, she couldn’t show weakness in her deanor, she needed to maintain the posture of a role model.
She figured that she should be more tolerant with Chen Cang, and ideally embody the dignity of a teacher, without compromising care.
It’s so hard…
Who doesn’t have a first ti? Just feel your way through, ng Xi thought, sighing.
Besides, to be a teacher is to impart knowledge, teach, and dispel confusion.
She should teach according to the student’s abilities and help Chen Cang with what he doesn’t understand.
With this in mind, ng Xi decided to have a good talk with Chen Cang to see what he really wanted to learn, “Xiao Chen, what are your plans for your three years as a graduate student?”
Chen Cang paused, and after so thought, if he really had a plan, it would surely be… to raise his favorability to 100, and then to keep building favorability each day!
If he were to be more specific, it might just be to astonish Teacher ng every day.
