"You do make so sense,"

Ding Se frowned slightly, hesitated for a mont, then spoke, "But if we let you go, what will you tell your family when you return? You were out all night last night."

"That’s easy, I’ll say I was out playing mahjong with friends all night."

Hearing that there was a chance she could be released, Yang ifeng wasn’t about to let the opportunity slip by, "I often play mahjong out, and both my husband and my daughter know that..."

"Heh."

Ding Se scrutinized Yang ifeng from head to toe, then suddenly snickered and said, "Yang ifeng, do you think you’re the fool, or are you taking others for fools?"

"Look at yourself, do you look like soone who played mahjong all night?"

Indeed, at that mont, Yang ifeng’s hair was disheveled, her eyes puffy, and her whole body ached and felt weak. Anyone could tell that she had been roughed up inside; no one would believe she had spent the night playing mahjong.

Yang ifeng stamred, unable to speak for a while, when Ding Se pulled out his mobile phone from his pocket and opened a video clip.

"What do you think this is?"

Following Ding Se’s action, Yang ifeng looked up to see the video showing six or seven uniford police officers, guns at the ready, escorting a person with a hood over their head into a police car.

"This... is this ? How did I end up in a video?"

She stuttered, her eyes filled with dismay.

Just yesterday afternoon, she had been sitting cross-legged in the bank manager’s office, cracking sunflower seeds, gnawing on duck necks, browsing short videos, and showing off in the chat groups, eliciting envy from her friends.

Now, to her dismay, she had beco a prisoner, not only being beaten up but also fild while being taken away. If Liu Chunling knew about this, she’d be the laughing stock.

"Of course, it’s you. Many people at the scene recognized you as Yang ifeng!"

Ding Se continued impassively, "If you go back and say you were playing mahjong, what will you say when your daughter asks you who you played with? Where? And until what ti?"

"Yang ifeng, you should know that one lie requires a thousand more to maintain."

"So what should I do?"

Yang ifeng beca anxious, "You won’t let tell the truth, and now I can’t lie either; I can’t just play dumb and not respond at all, can I?"

"Ahem."

Ding Se coughed lightly, realizing he had perhaps gone a bit too far with his act, his tone changed as he spoke, "Actually, you could take a different approach."

"You could truthfully tell your family that you ca here, but were not taken forcibly; instead, you were invited for an inquiry."

Inquiry?

Yang ifeng looked unconvinced.

An inquiry that involves being blindfolded and handcuffed to be taken to a police car?

As if hearing the voice in Yang ifeng’s head, Ding Se explained, "Just tell your family, you were involved in a telecommunication fraud case, and we police officers covered your head to protect your safety while bringing you back."

"As for not returning ho all night, you were assisting in our police investigation."

Yang ifeng nodded repeatedly, impressed by Ding Se’s eloquence. His words were part truth, part lie—her husband and daughter would never notice a thing.

"Sir, I’ll follow your advice. When I get back, I’ll say I was implicated in a telecommunication fraud case at the bank, and you, the police, protected by hooding and putting in the police car. I also stayed all night to assist with the investigation."

"Hmm."

Ding Se nodded, rearranged so docunts, and said calmly, "Alright, let’s leave it at that for now. You want to go back to your cell, I’ll go discuss with Chen Se to see if it’s possible to release you."

"What? There’s still a discussion needed?"

Yang ifeng said with a bitter face, "Sir, can’t you make the decision to release ?"

"Sorry, Chen Se is the primary officer on this case."

Ding Se shrugged his shoulders, replying, "I’ve done what I could; now you should head back to the detention room and wait for news. If all goes well, the paperwork can be finalized today."

"Okay, okay!"

Upon hearing that there was hope of leaving that day, Yang ifeng dared not refuse.

Gurgle...

Just then, her stomach suddenly growled.

She hadn’t eaten a single bite since noon the previous day, her stomach was rumbling fiercely.

"Sir, could you please get sothing to eat?" Yang ifeng asked boldly.

Ding Se gestured expansively, "Of course, what would you like to eat?"

Gurgle...

Swallowing, Yang ifeng counted off on her fingers, "I want a cheese chicken panini, plus a hash brown, then another wrap or a century egg and lean pork porridge. I’ll drink soy milk or coffee; I’m not picky..."

"Yang ifeng, you are really pushing your luck now, aren’t you?"

Ding Se’s expression darkened, his tone displeased, "Where do you think you are? Chicken panini and hash browns?"

"None of that’s available. Later, I’ll have soone prepare two vegetable buns for you!"

With that, he turned and left.

Soon after, two Sirs entered the room, escorting Yang ifeng back to the detention room once again.

On the way back, Yang ifeng sighed incessantly. If she hadn’t gotten carried away with her fantasy a mont ago, she might already be out enjoying her panini and casually sipping soy milk while browsing through videos.

"Yang ifeng, back to your room, here are the vegetable buns Ding Se told to give you."

While she was lost in thought, she suddenly heard the female instructor’s voice. Before she could react, the instructor pushed her inside, holding two steaming vegetable buns...
