The ntion of River’s na made Arlo unable to recover imdiately, and Hazel could see that. Actually, it was ridiculous to see his reaction when he was involved in Aubrey’s plan to kill her.

"How do you know her?" Arlo tightened her grip on Hazel’s wrist, and it seed he didn’t even notice that, yet Hazel didn’t grimace at all.

To be honest, she enjoyed the tornt in his eyes, knowing it affected him strongly.

"How long have you known her?" Arlo couldn’t help but fire her with a lot of questions. He didn’t have much ti. The music would end and the dance would stop; after that, it would be difficult for him to find alone ti with her.

"Long enough," Hazel replied with an indefinite answer.

"Have you... t her?" Arlo tightened his grip again. "When was the last ti you t her?" In his eyes, Hazel held so much information that he needed. She was the key for him to find River and learn what happened to her or where she was.

It was hard to hold himself back from asking all of those questions at once.

"Around four months ago," Hazel replied.

Four months ago, it was the ti when Aubrey shot River, and that was also the last ti Arlo saw her.

"But I have been in contact with her almost every day," Hazel said cheerfully, smiling brilliantly, knowing how much of a torture this was for Arlo.

Just like how Arlo loved to pay close attention to small things about River, she also had the sa habit. She knew him enough to use the knowledge against him.

"Can you..." Arlo cleared his throat. He had to constantly remind himself that he was in a public area and he had to control himself. "Can you give her contact information? There is an urgent issue that I have to discuss with her."

"No."

"If you are worried about giving her contact to a stranger, actually..."

Hazel shook her head and cut him off mid-sentence. "I know both of you know each other." Once again, they stopped moving. All of Arlo’s attention was on Hazel. "You hurt her."

Arlo took a step back, but he was still holding Hazel’s hand, and his grip was tightening even more. Hazel wondered if it would leave a mark.

This man ruined her life, and now he ruined her blood circulation too. What a jerk.

"What else did she say?"

At this point, Arlo didn’t care where they were; he only wanted to know everything about what Hazel knew about River. Anything.

"You must be her ex-fiancé, right?" Hazel tilted her head. Her brown eyes darkened, though a sweet smile graced her lips. "She told that you betrayed her in the worst possible way with her stepsister."

The music had stopped now.

"That’s a complicated situation. She misunderstood ."

Hazel sneered inside. Why did people keep belittling the pain that they caused? Not only Greyson but also Arlo. Both River and Hazel’s lives sucked.

"Could you tell how I can get in contact with her?"

"No. She didn’t want to be in contact with you."

Arlo was almost losing it; he wanted to shake this woman harshly and threaten her if he had to so she would tell him everything he wanted to know. He lost his composure.

However, before any of that could happen, soone grabbed his wrist, and the grip was very firm.

"Mr. Barlowe, the music is over; I want my wife back."

Ranon’s stern voice brought Arlo back to reality. He t Ranon’s dark eyes as the man stood behind Hazel and put his arm around her waist possessively.

His presence angered Arlo because he ruined their conversation. He was so close to getting the answer from Hazel about River. There were so many things that he had not yet asked, but he was forced to end it.

The anger was palpable on Arlo’s face, but Ranon looked even more nacing, which made Hazel suffocate since she was standing between them.

She calculated her position. If either Ranon or Arlo threw a punch, she would be the one who was at a disadvantage; not to ntion Arlo was still holding her hand, which didn’t allow her to avoid the worst.

With Arlo in front of her and Ranon’s body towering at her back, she felt like she was being pressed by two tall walls.

Damn.

But thankfully, Arlo ca to his senses in ti and let go of Hazel’s hand. He took a step back. "Of course, Mr. Leighton. Congratulations on your wedding," he said before he turned around and left.

Ranon looked down at Hazel; his hand was still on her waist as he turned her body around to face him. "He bothered you?"

"No." Actually, it was the other way around. Hazel was sure she had ssed with Arlo’s mind, and he would find a way to get in contact with her again. Exactly what she wanted.

Ranon saw Hazel when she danced with her father, and then Arlo ca. He didn’t know what they were talking about, but whatever it was, it bothered him.

However, at the sa ti, Ranon could see different emotions on Hazel’s face. He couldn’t describe it. Sotis, there was a flash of anger and resentnt, but then it was sadness.

Apparently, Hazel was not as aloof as she thought she was, and Ranon saw it.

"You know him." That was not a question but a conclusion. Even when Ranon was certain about it, he was still at a loss. Hazel couldn’t have known Arlo, and there was no history about the two of them crossing paths before this.

They lived in two different worlds.

"Soone that I know knows him," Hazel phrased it that way.

"River."

She could lie, but she chose to be honest with this one since there were already so many lies. "Yes."

But, before Ranon could ask further, he saw Hazel suck in a deep breath. "What happened?"
