"Luna, is there anything you need?" Janice asked as if she was fawning.
"No, you guys can leave. I need to rest." I didn’t want chaos at this mont. I needed quiet, to enable to think about the future.
A future that had been uncertain until a few days ago.
I took a shower and changed into comfortable clothes.
Even though Lady Bernice had tried, most of the clothes in the closet were too big for .
She had probably gone to order clothes that would fit a seventeen or eighteen years old teenager, but due to malnutrition, my body was similar to that of a fifteen years old girl.
In fact, so fifteen year olds had better and fuller figures than I do.
So, almost all the clothes were too big for , but I didn’t care about that. At least I had new and clean clothes and not those patched up, washed out clothes I usually wore.
I had just sat down on the bed ready to take a nap when I heard the door opposite mine open.
After ascending to the alpha position, Mike had moved to another room. So, the place I had been brought now wasn’t the sa place I had been cleaning before I ended up in the hospital twice.
I didn’t know who owned the room opposite mine, but the mont I felt that familiar tingling, I knew exactly who had walked out of that door. Mike.
So, his room was opposite mine. There weren’t many rooms on this floor. I noticed that on my way here.
The whole floor only had four doors.
I wondered where he was going or rather what he was doing in his room at this ti instead of being in his office handling pack business.
However, this was none of my business. As far as I am concerned, Mike was just a werewolf like any other and I just happened to have a bond connection with him.
A connection I had no plans of using.
I had just laid on the softest bed I had slept on for the first ti in almost a decade when my door was suddenly pushed open and I heard footsteps walking closer to the bed.
Without looking, I already knew who it was.
Why did he have to barge into my room?
I sat down and looked straight at the man who had walked into my room like he had every right to be there.
He wasn’t wearing his alpha jacket. Just a black shirt with the sleeves rolled to his forearms.
Our gazes locked and the air around us felt as if it was charged with electricity.
"Is this why you moved here?" I asked calmly as if his close proximity had no effect on , but only I knew how badly my body yearned for his touch.
I could feel every cell in my body screaming for attention from him, but I kept them locked.
I wasn’t going to allow sothing as insignificant as a mate bond ruin my plans.
I wished that Lizzie would wake up and cut off that connection like before because it was seriously becoming a nuisance.
"What do you an?" Mike asked in a deep voice while observing as if looking for sothing. For a reaction, but I remained completely calm. At least, on the outside.
"So that you could wazzle into my space like it’s yours. You don’t even need to knock." I replied with a sarcastic undertone.
"You don’t have to be so defensive. I just wanted to see how you are settling in." Mike replied awkwardly as if he hadn’t thought that he was intruding into my privacy before.
"Oh, I am doing quite alright. Now if you could please leave, my head still hurts and I need to rest." I didn’t an anything by that statent other than wanting him to leave, but he seed to have taken it differently.
"I didn’t an to hurt you." He said awkwardly with what sounded like an apologetic voice.
That surprised . Mike, apologizing? Now that was new.
"No need for that. It has already happened and it can’t be undone no matter why you did it. I am the one with stitches on my head." I didn’t want to argue with him, especially when a headache was beginning to pound.
Mike’s eyes flickered then fell on my bandaged head.
For a second, I saw sothing soften in his eyes. A flicker of guilt flashed in his eyes before disappearing just as quickly.
"This doesn’t change anything," he said. His voice stilled again.
It made wonder if what I just saw was an illusion.
As I watched the walls he had built since my father’s death rise again. I sighed.
He was right. Nothing had changed between us even if I was no longer the pack’s slave.
Being his mate changed nothing as well. I understood that better than anyone, especially when the mory of that bet surfaced on my mind, my expression hardened.
"Please see yourself out, Alpha Mike. I need rest." I gave the matching order and slid back under the covers. Closing my eyes as if no one else was there.
"You think this is a ga?" Mike suddenly asked and I didn’t bother looking at him.
I replied while still covered on the bed.
"No. Like you said, this changes nothing. The only thing that has changed is my address. So, don’t worry."
I wasn’t in the mood to coddle him. So, I was as blunt as I could be.
"You are getting bold." Mike said again.
Realizing that he wasn’t leaving, I sat down again and looked straight into his dark eyes.
Those eyes did things to I would rather not feel. I hated my body for betraying , but I could suppress it. I didn’t look away.
"I almost died twice in two weeks," I said calmly. "I don’t have the luxury of being timid anymore."
