Valerie’s POV
Anita didn’t leave imdiately after telling about Alpha Demon forcing Mike to accept .
At first I thought it was just her being her usual self and wanting to take care of like before. However, I soon noticed that sothing was off about her.
She was too quiet and her fingers fidgeted with the strap of her bag, eyes darting toward the door like she was afraid soone would walk in and hear what she’d already said.
This didn’t seem like the Anita I had co to know. She was never this timid. So, what is happening now?
"Is there sothing else?" I asked quietly to pull her out of her misery.
She hesitated for a mont before looking straight in the eye and opening her mouth to speak.
"Val....there is an order." I noticed that she had changed the way she calls . Now, she uses my nickna.
But wait....did she just ntion an order?
My heart slowed instead of accelerating the way it should when soone is excited or afraid.
Whenever the pack issued "orders" concerning , it usually ant pain. I wondered what sin I have now committed even while lying in a hospital bed?
"What order?" I still mastered the courage to ask. I am not a coward and now that I see a way out, I will fear even less.
"You are being moved?" Anita replied with what I thought was excitent, but I couldn’t understand what it was for.
"Moved where?" I asked cautiously, blinking in confusion.
"To the main house." Anita dropped a bomb that shook to my core.
Why would anyone ever want to move to the main house? For what?
"You an the pack house?" I asked in disbelief.
"Yes, it was Alpha Demon’s order. You will be moved to the room next to Alpha Mike’s." Anita continued.
Now that made even less sense. Not to ntion how much Alpha Demon hated , it was already a miracle that he had forced Mike to accept as his mate, but now we are playing house? What is he up to? What conspiracy is cooking under the currents of the pack?
"When will it happen?" I asked after taking a deep breath and steadying my mind.
"Today. I heard that the room will be prepared so that you can move in as soon as you leave the hospital." I could tell that Anita was excited for . The way a friend should when the other achieves sothing good.
But was this move really a good thing? I doubted it, but I also knew that this was an opportunity.
I leaned back against the hospital pillow, careful not to disturb the stitches on my head.
So this was the ga now. From slave quarters to the alpha’s corridor. From invisible to center stage.
And all because of a bond I never asked for. A bond I didn’t want in the first place.
"Did Mike agree?" I asked again, watching her carefully.
Anita’s expression stilled for a mont and I couldn’t tell what she was thinking.
"Well, he did argue at first, but Alpha Demon insisted, so Alpha Mike compromised."
Looking at her expression, I could tell it wasn’t as simple as compromising. Sothing else had happened, but she wasn’t telling . But that doesn’t matter. I don’t care either.
However, if Mike had been forced into this, that ant one thing. He would resent even more.
Perfect.
Just perfect. Good one, Alpha Demon.
"Could you do a favor?" I asked Anita after so silence.
"Anything Val, just say it." Anita smiled enthusiastically. Too enthusiastically.
I wondered if she liked being ordered around.
"Could you be the one to tidy up my things? I know my room is not a place anyone would want to spend even a minute in it, but I value my privacy either way and you are the only one in this pack I can trust for now." I didn’t know if she would agree, but I didn’t want strangers who hate going through my stuff.
"Of course I will. Don’t worry about anything and just focus on recovering. I will personally oversee the move." Anita slapped her chest as she said this and I realized for the first ti that when she wasn’t being a pain in the ass, she was a really sweet girl.
"Thank you." I said with a smile.
"No need to thank . Friends help each other." She said cheerfully as if the idea of being my friend was very appealing to her.
I could understand why she changed so suddenly, but I wouldn’t complain about having a friend after eight years of solitude and torture.
The day I was discharged from the hospital, I was escorted back to the pack house.
Two girls, both a bit older than and in their twenties showed up in my hospital room.
"I am Lilith." One of them introduced herself.
She was smiling politely while the other had contempt written all over her face. She didn’t even bother introducing herself.
"Mmm...this is Janice. We are maids personally appointed by the forr Luna to serve you. Lady Bernice said that since you are going to be the Luna, you need your own people to take care of your daily life and duties. You can order us as you wish and we will follow your orders." Lilith continued the introduction and my jaw nearly dropped to the ground.
What was Luna Bernice playing at now? First they move , then maids follow. What will co next? Asking about grandchildren? I shuddered just thinking about it. I have no plans of ever consummating my bond with Mike, so that idea can be sealed in a box and thrown into the sea. Never to surface.
The maid introduced as Janice scoffed when Lilith explained what they had been ordered to do and I knew I had to establish my authority early on otherwise, all my plans would go to the dogs.
