Chapter 28: Chapter 28: No Confidence Chapter 28: Chapter 28: No Confidence Wu Mu pointed at an evaluation question under the post about his skills, smiling slightly, “You even read this stuff?”
The question he pointed at was—”How do you evaluate the interaction between Wu Mu and Mo Mo in the new episode of ‘Singer-songwriter’? Do they have sothing going on?”
Celebrities checking out gossip about themselves and others?
If Mo Mo hadn’t brought it up, Wu Mu wouldn’t have thought of it.
Mo Mo felt a bit embarrassed but managed to stay composed, “I just happened to scroll by it. These people are too nosy. We’re just a duo singing songs, and they think there’s sothing going on.”
Wu Mu could guess the reason and spread his hands, saying, “Who’s to bla for needing to borrow money from ? A couple of million; if it were , I’d be suspicious too.”
Mo Mo glared at him, and after a few seconds, she burst out laughing, “Wu Mu, you really don’t understand a good person’s intentions. I borrow money and make it worse, huh? Fine, I won’t borrow any more!”
After laughing, she seemingly continued talking about the past topic as if nothing had happened.
As they chatted, they quickly got ready to start recording.
When the recording started, Mo Mo, who had just been joking around, suddenly looked troubled.
“Oh no, Wu Mu, this ti we shouldn’t even talk about getting in the top three. It’d be good enough if we’re not eliminated at the bottom.”
*Hmm?*
He Jie and Zheng Qiang, seated in the front row, turned their heads in surprise to look at Mo Mo.
*What was going on? The competition hadn’t even started yet, and she was already so devoid of confidence?*
He Jie cautiously asked, “Is your song for this episode not good?”
“The song’s fine.”
Mo Mo shook her head.
What Wu Mu brought out was at least a well-known hit from past lives, so the quality was certainly excellent.
But… thinking about the pre-recording rehearsals, her confidence really took a hit.
Originally, after the first two episodes, she had a lot of confidence in Wu Mu. She even thought they had an advantage this ti and could seize another first place opportunity.
But the pre-competition rehearsals completely shattered her confidence!
The Wu Mu, who dominated the stage in past episodes, had sohow reverted to being a newbie singer with massive online following!
Like one of those big voices lacking emotion and lacking technique!
Thinking about the rehearsal where no matter how much she corrected him, Wu Mu couldn’t even manage proper breathing, Mo Mo felt a bit of resentnt.
*Could Wu Mu be deliberately playing dumb?*
*Was this really the Wu Mu, who hadn’t even instilled much confidence in her in the first two episodes?*
Of course, she thought like this, but she could generally sense where the problem lay.
“Wu Mu, you have no emotional resonance with this song at all.”
Mo Mo sighed in her heart.
Now everyone could see that Wu Mu sang with emotion. In the first two episodes, even with a bunch of technical flaws, he pulled everyone into the emotion. So those technical issues didn’t really matter.
But once the emotion was gone, the performance imdiately beca like the first episode’s crushed state.
Why did the emotion run so high in the first two episodes, but completely disappear now?
Mo Mo guessed, “Wu Mu, you probably sing like thod actors act. You have to personally experience the emotions in the song to convey them on stage.”
Knowing that Wu Mu possibly had no resonance with the new song, her heart inevitably sank a bit.
…
Mo Mo felt unconfident, worried that Wu Mu could get crushed, possibly even by her, his partner.
Yet Wu Mu remained calm.
He laughed, saying, “It won’t be that bad. Getting into the top three shouldn’t be a problem for us.”
He stayed calm because he hadn’t even activated his skills!
It was tiring to squeeze performance out line by line during rehearsals with skills activated.
So he hadn’t turned on skills from start to finish, so a good performance was out of the question.
Mo Mo wasn’t comforted and just sighed, “As long as we aren’t in last place, that’d be good enough. Otherwise, Wu Mu, you’d get eliminated!”
While they were talking, the show began following the usual format.
Just like before, the host ca on stage to introduce, and the contestants drew lots to decide the performance order.
Mo Mo went on stage and drew number six, which was the last group.
He Jie, seeing that Mo Mo drew the last group, turned his head and joked, “Were you guys serious about what you said earlier? Are you trying to lull us into a false sense of security? But even if you are, it won’t work. Being in the last group this ti won’t affect us.”
He obviously didn’t quite believe Mo Mo’s lack of confidence.
After all, the impression Wu Mu left in the first two episodes was too strong.
He definitely didn’t want to follow Wu Mu. The performances of contestants following Wu Mu in the first two episodes were visible to all.
Not only did their own performance status get affected, but even the audience’s scores were unknowingly lowered.
Placing Wu Mu in the last spot was beneficial for them.
He Jie wasn’t the only one who felt this way. Xu Zhiwen and other contestants were also inwardly relieved.
The contestants eliminated in the last episode felt unfortunately unjustified. If they hadn’t perford after Wu Mu, they might not have been eliminated.
They didn’t want to repeat the misfortune of the previous group.
After two groups were eliminated, the competition on stage beca much fiercer. Even a slight mistake could lead to elimination.
Following the lot drawing, the formal performances soon began.
This ti, the first was Zheng Qiang and his partner on stage.
The two sang a song called “Dream Return,” which was in Zheng Qiang’s preferred rock style and was quite good.
He Jie nodded and comnted, “Zheng Qiang’s trick is clever, using the rock style to dilute the love song elents so it doesn’t impact perception when two male singers perform a love song.”
Moreover, the rock style could offer a scoring advantage.
Yet, in the end, the listening sensation wasn’t quite a love song. Even though the lyrics were in love song duet form, the final score wasn’t particularly high.
Zheng Qiang’s group scored 731 points.
Next, Xu Zhiwen and his partner took the stage.
His partner was a female singer, so there was no need to worry about perception, just directly writing a straightforward duet love song. The quality was also decent, and they managed to score even higher than Zheng Qiang’s group, with 754 points.
Following that was the previous episode’s Shaanxi folk-style female singer and her partner. They had a gender advantage but chose the wrong style.
Perhaps trying to replicate past success, they attempted another Shaanxi folk-style love song. But the audience didn’t seem impressed this ti, and they scored rely a bit over 670.
This score was evidently perilous, especially with He Jie’s group and Mo Mo and Wu Mu’s group performing afterward.
This essentially placed them in the last two positions. If the remaining group outperford them, they’d face elimination this episode.
And the group performing after them seized the opportunity, placing them on the elimination seat with a score of 719 points.
The second to last was He Jie’s group.
They amazed the whole venue with one mber performing in falsetto, mimicking a female voice, and grabbed the highest score of 806 points.
Now, all five groups had perford, leaving only Wu Mu and Mo Mo.
