Chapter 35: Mrs Avalor’s thoughts
Ivan moved his eyes away from the corpse of the orc and looked behind it. There, he saw Aaron supporting Lena with his body while both of his palms were placed on the ground, and mana swirled around him.
A faint smile ford on Ivan’s lips, the boy managed to do it in the end. Now that all of the orcs were dead, Ivan allowed himself to drop to the ground.
"I’ll just stay here for a bit," Ivan mumbled as he lay on his back and stared at the sky while breathing softly.
His mind replayed everything that had happened and he suddenly felt that the sky was quite clear today, even though it was the sky inside a dungeon.
Ivan soon heard approaching footsteps, he turned his head without getting up and saw Aaron, Lena, Lucas, and Juliet walking over.
Juliet was supporting Lena while Aaron carried Ivan’s shield.
Imdiately after Lucas reached him, White flew off his head and landed on Ivan’s chest. The bird stared at Ivan’s face before moving one of its wings as if trying to pat Ivan.
Ivan couldn’t help but chuckle at the bird’s action, he then turned to look at Juliet.
"Thanks, your shot ca at the right ti." He said.
Juliet blushed and looked away; she was slightly embarrassed that she hadn’t been able to kill the orc with that shot. She had done her best to gather as much mana as possible to assist with the fight but in the end, that was all she could do.
"We...did this?" Aaron muttered as he looked at what remained of the orc village. He found it difficult to believe.
"I know, right? It’s all thanks to Ivan," Lena said with a light giggle. Aside from one of her legs that got hurt in the explosion earlier, she was pretty much fine.
"Mm, he fought most of the orcs alone. We only won because of him," Lucas added with a depressed face, he was sad because he wasn’t able to contribute during the fight.
Ivan could tell what the kid was thinking, he sighed and was about to speak when Mrs Avalor’s voice sounded from behind them.
"While I agree that Ivan played a big role, every one of you contributed to this victory so you should take so credit."
A gust of wind blew against their faces as Mrs Avalor appeared behind them, she smiled while staring at Lucas.
"Thanks to your special summon, your squad was able to scout ahead without engaging the orcs and collecting valuable information that helped your squad to plan your attack
You have no idea how dangerous it is to fight an enemy that you do not know anything about." She paused.
The students stared at her, surprised by how she suddenly appeared.
anwhile, Mrs Avalor continued.
"Your ability to control the battlefield is quite remarkable, limiting the orcs’ movents while engaging them was why Ivan wasn’t instantly overwheld by them.
You were the reason he was able to fight freely for so long and eventually wiped out the majority of them." She smiled at Lena before looking at Aaron.
"Kid, your earth elent is quite unique. Your control is stronger than any other first-year Earth mage that I’ve ever seen. Your timing is also impeccable.
Not only can you change the battlefield in favour of your teammates, but your reaction to fast attacks isn’t sothing normal for those of your level."
Next was Juliet.
"A musketeer is truly an enviable class. Taking out an orc king in one strike and imdiately eliminating half of the danger for your squad.
That second shot was also very tily, I would have stepped in to help Ivan if not for you. You have a bright future, kid, work hard."
Juliet nodded with an excited face which she tried to contain. Mrs Avalor smiled before turning to look at Ivan on the ground.
"As for you, are you alright?" She asked with a gentle smile.
"Yes, I just want to stay like this for a bit," Ivan replied softly, his eyes glancing at Mrs Avalor.
The other party walked over without saying anything and looked at Ivan on the ground.
"Your arm, it’s broken." She said,
Her words shocked Lena and the others and they imdiately hurried to Ivan’s side.
"Ivan broke his arm? How?"
"We didn’t even notice, have you been fighting with a broken arm?
"Which orc broke your arm? Tell , I’ll go and hit its corpse!"
The group of students reacted one after the other after learning that Ivan had broken an arm. They felt both guilty and angered at the sa ti.
"It’s nothing, just a slight fracture." Ivan voiced out calmly, trying to calm his squad. The pain from his broken arm was really nothing compared to other things he had experienced.
"Calm down, kids. Getting injured inside a dungeon isn’t strange, the academy was even prepared for it. There are healers waiting outside the dungeon gate so Ivan will get treated once you co out." Mrs Avalor said before waving her left hand.
Three small crystals flew from the corner and drifted above her palms, she was using her wind elent to control them.
The eyes of the students instantly landed on the mana core, they stared at Mrs Avalor, wondering what she was going to do.
Before they could think too far, Mrs Avalor made the mana core float towards them before landing next to Ivan.
"These three are gains of your hard work, the academy didn’t prepare for this so you can keep them." She said,
The eyes of the students widened as they looked at the mana cores. Could they really keep them? Even though they were mana cores of the lowest grade, purchasing one of these would still cost hundreds of gold coins!
While the four of them were happy that they could keep the mana cores, Ivan was puzzled about sothing else.
Mrs Avalor had said that the academy didn’t prepare for this, what did she an by that?
"Excuse ," he called out. Lucas and the others imdiately stopped talking when they heard Ivan’s voice and Mrs Avalor looked at him.
"What is it?" She asked in a gentle tone.
"When you said that the academy didn’t prepare for this, what do you an?" Ivan asked.
Only now did Lena and the others realise that Mrs Avalor had indeed said sothing like that, they had just ignored it because the second line was about them keeping the mana cores.
"Oh, not only are you an abnormal Paladin, but you’re also very sensitive to tiny details. Don’t worry, you’ll find out when you co out of the dungeon." She said with a small laugh.
Ivan "..."
’I’ll take the first part as a complint.’
Since Mrs Avalor wasn’t going to answer, the students decided to forget about the matter for now.
"What do you plan to do next? Are you going to continue with the assessnt?" Mrs Avalor asked after so ti.
Lena, Juliet, and the other two looked at Ivan, waiting for his response too.
Ivan shook his head while still on the ground. Lena was hurt and Aaron was probably almost out of mana, Juliet was out of mana as well and wouldn’t be able to perform as she did earlier for a short while.
As for himself, his left arm was broken and it wasn’t ideal for him to rush into another battle even if he could still fight.
The only mber of their squad who could still carry out their duties effectively was Lucas, he couldn’t possibly send the kid to solo an entire village of orcs, right?
"Good call, rest up for a bit more and follow
to the gate. You’ve already done your best and can expect a good score on the ranking." Mrs Avalor smiled sweetly at them. She walked around the village after saying this, leaving the kids alone.
Ivan looked at Lena and Aaron after Mrs Avalor left.
"Looks like you can create spikes now," Ivan said with a grin.
"I didn’t expect it to work either," Aaron scratched the back of his head and said shyly. He suddenly rembered that he was still holding onto Ivan’s shield.
"Here’s your shield, we were only able to survive that spell because you threw it at us; thanks," Aaron said as he handed the shield over.
Ivan touched the shield and made it return into his mana core while saying.
"No need to thank , your earth walls also helped
a lot." He said before turning to Lena.
"How’s your leg?" He asked.
"Good, it only hurts slightly because I hit it on the ground after the spell blew us away." The girl giggled and said.
"Hey, what do you think our score will be compared to the other squads?" Lucas suddenly asked and everyone fell silent.
They had only managed to clear one orc village for the assessnt, and they doubted whether that would be enough to get a good position on the ranking.
"It’s no use thinking about it, we did our best and even got 3 mana cores. We should be happy about that." Lena said with a bright expression.
"Well, other squads will still get mana cores from the orc villages but ok," Juliet said from the corner, she sounded depressed.
Everyone fell silent again.
