Chapter 680: For The First Ti Ever

Emily convulsed violently in her arms, her body seizing as the last remnants of the Hate System tried to resist being pulled away.

“Emily.” Nnenna cried, tightening her hold. “Stay with . It’s leaving you, it can’t hurt you anymore.”

The air shimred faintly around them, glowing traces of light and shadow flickering before vanishing completely. But the seizure wasn’t stopping. Her eyes rolled back, her limbs jerking violently in her arms.

“Emily.” Nnenna’s voice broke as she held her tighter. “No, no, no, please, hold on.”

She could feel the Love System humming faintly in her chest, steady but silent, as if waiting for her command. “Love System,” she called quickly, her hands already checking Emily’s pulse, “why is she still seizing? You said the Hate System was gone!”

“It is imprisoned,” the Love System answered gently in her mind, “but its venom lingers in her body. It tried to destroy what it couldn’t keep.”

Nnenna’s jaw clenched. “She’s not its to destroy.”

She tore open the sleeves of the black robe, her movents quick but precise. “Love System, I need Ativan, fast.”

A faint glow appeared beside her, forming a small injector filled with clear liquid. Without hesitation, she drew it and carefully injected it into Emily’s arm.

“Co on… co on…” Nnenna whispered, watching as Emily’s violent shaking slowly began to fade. Her body went still, and her breathing evened out. Relief crashed over Nnenna like a wave. She brushed Emily’s hair back gently, her fingers trembling slightly.

After a few long monts, Emily’s eyelids fluttered. Her gaze was unfocused at first, then slowly sharpened on Nnenna’s face. “…Nnenna?” she croaked weakly.

Nnenna exhaled in relief, a small shaky laugh escaping her. “Yeah. It’s . You’re okay now.”

“A-am o-kay?” She asked in disbelief then tried to adjust her uncomfortable position, but… nothing happened.

Her brow furrowed. She tried again, harder this ti. Still nothing. Panic flickered in her eyes. “I… I can’t—why can’t I feel my legs?”

Nnenna froze. Her dical instincts kicked in imdiately. She checked again, pupils normal, pulse steady, no visible injury, but when she ran a quick scan through the Love System’s diagnostic field, the results made her chest tighten.

The connection between Emily’s brain and spinal motor nerves had been severed.

Nnenna swallowed hard. “Emily… listen to .”

Emily stared at her, fear rising in her voice. “What’s wrong?”

“The Hate System… before it left, it must’ve cut off your motor link. You’re—” Nnenna hesitated, her throat tightening, “you’re paralyzed from the waist down.”

For a mont, Emily didn’t respond. She just stared at her hands, her chest rising and falling quickly. “So… I can’t walk anymore?”

Nnenna nodded slowly, guilt flooding her chest like ice. “I’m so sorry, Emily. I should’nt have let this happen. I should’ve—”

“Stop,” Emily interrupted, her voice breaking but calm. “Don’t do that.” She exhaled shakily, a tear slipping down her cheek. “I knew… there would be a price for letting it go. I thought it would be my life. But I’m still here. I can breathe, I can feel my heart beating, I can see you. This… this is better than I hoped for.”

Nnenna blinked, stunned. “Emily…”

Emily smiled faintly, weak but genuine. “You don’t understand. For more than ten years, I’ve lived in noise, constant hatred, anger, emptiness. I couldn’t hear myself think. Now… it’s quiet. It’s peaceful.”

Her smile trembled as another tear fell. “So maybe I can’t walk. But I can live. I can help people in other ways. I can make a difference with my voice, with my story.”

Nnenna looked down, her throat tight. Emily’s resilience reminded her too much of herself, months ago, trapped in her own kind of paralysis, physical and emotional.

“I’ll fix this,” Nnenna said quietly but firmly. She reached out and gripped Emily’s hand. “I’ll do everything I can. Even if it takes my whole life, I’ll find a way for you to walk again.”

Emily’s eyes softened. “You don’t have to carry that burden, Nnenna.”

“I want to,” Nnenna replied. “Because I know what it feels like, to lose sothing that once defined you. And I also know what it ans to fight for it back.”

Emily chuckled softly through her tears. “You really do believe in miracles, don’t you?”

“I’ve seen too many not to.”

For a long, quiet mont, they sat there, two souls who had been enemies, now united by pain, survival, and the quiet pulse of love that still lingered between them.

The Love System glowed faintly in Nnenna’s chest, its voice warm and gentle.

“Compassion heals deeper than power. You have done well.”

Nnenna squeezed Emily’s hand again, determination glinting in her eyes. “This isn’t the end. It’s the start of sothing new, for both of us.”

And for the first ti in years, Emily smiled with peace in her heart.

The air shimred and cracked as Nnenna finally lowered the shimring barrier that had enclosed them for what she thought was a single endless night. The force field flickered out like glass turning to dust, revealing the world beyond, bright, golden sunlight spilling through the ruins.

She blinked hard. Morning?

No, the position of the sun was wrong, too high, too warm. Her body felt sore, her thoughts foggy, and the air carried that faint, clean scent that ca only after days had passed. Sothing wasn’t right.

Before she could process it, the sound of voices reached her.

Gasps. Cries. A collective sigh of relief.

Tens of people stood outside the now faded do, soldiers, sergeants, tech specialists, even civilians who had refused to leave the site. Among them were the generals, Little Sweetie, Carl, and Arthur. All looked pale and exhausted, dark circles under their eyes.

“Nnenna…” Carl’s voice broke the silence first, breathless, disbelieving.

Her gaze darted over the crowd. They looked like people who had been waiting far too long. That’s when one of the generals muttered hoarsely, “Three days… she was in there for three whole days…”
