Chapter 679: Doesn’t Wait For People To Deserve It

Nnenna watched Emily’s face, softening. “You say my life is easy,” she said, quiet but fierce. “Do you know how I got here? Do you know that every day I choose this? I look for reasons to be glad. I let myself smile. I say what I feel instead of locking it inside.”

Short pause. A steady breath.

“I work hard. I guard the people I love. I treasure what I have.”

She t Emily’s eyes. “And I still fall sotis. But I get back up. That’s how I live.”

“You can’t just drift through life and expect things to go your way,” Nnenna said, her voice steady but firm. “You can’t give up on people and still expect to find friends and family. You can’t build walls, create stereotypes, and judge everyone by them.”

She took a breath, her tone softening. “What about the people you haven’t t yet, the ones who are ready to love you? Or those who were once bad but decided to change? They all deserve a chance to prove themselves.”

Emily, who had been quiet until then, finally spoke up. “Do they really?” Her voice trembled slightly, not sharp or defensive this ti, just uncertain.

“Yes,” Nnenna said with conviction. “They do. I believe in second chances, Emily. And the amazing, sweet girl I know… she couldn’t have disappeared completely. You can’t fake that kind of goodness. So stop trying to make yourself the villain.”

Emily blinked, eyes wide and wet. “You… you believe in that much?” she asked, barely above a whisper.

“Yes, I do,” Nnenna replied firmly, not a hint of doubt in her voice.

For a brief mont, sothing fragile and hopeful flickered in Emily’s eyes. “Okay,” she whispered, her lips forming a small, trembling smile. “I acc—ack!”

Her words cut off abruptly as she clutched her throat, eyes widening in shock.

“Emily!” Nnenna’s heart jumped. Without hesitation, she lunged forward and caught her before she could fall. “Not this ti,” she said fiercely, her grip tightening. “Love System, use everything we’ve got!”

A faint light began to pulse around them as Nnenna held her closer. “Stay with , Emily,” she said, her voice breaking but strong. “I’m not losing you. Not you. Not anyone else. Not today.”

Inside Nnenna’s mind, the world around her shifted into a strange, weightless void, light and shadow clashing in a storm of emotions. Voices echoed in layers, fragnts of pain, fear, and mories swirling together.

It wasn’t the physical world anymore; this was the battleground between the Love System and the Hate System, a war waged through thought, willpower, and faith.

Nnenna could feel Emily’s mind beside hers, trembling, cornered by sothing dark and suffocating. The Hate System lood like a shadow made of smoke and venom, its voice deep and mocking.

“You shouldn’t have co here, girl,” it hissed, its form rippling through the void. “She accepted willingly. She made a covenant. You can’t undo that.”

Nnenna’s eyes narrowed, her voice calm but unyielding. “A covenant made in lies and fear holds no power when the truth is spoken.”

The shadow laughed. “You think you can overwrite a binding vow made in blood and intent? She called to ! She wanted !”

“She wanted to stop hurting,” Nnenna countered. “You offered her comfort in darkness, but you took her freedom. And now she’s renouncing you, that ans you have no claim anymore.”

The Hate System let out a sharp hiss, its tendrils lashing out. Black flas flared around Emily’s struggling form, wrapping around her like chains. “Renounce? Ha! You think it’s that easy? Her soul is marked by !”

“Then I’ll cleanse that mark,” Nnenna said, stepping forward. Her voice grew steadier, filled with sothing beyond herself, faith, love, light. “Because any such covenant is broken once it is renounced. She’s mine to protect now.”

At her words, a radiant light burst out from behind her, the Love System awakening in full force. It wasn’t a violent power; it was warm, unyielding, and alive. Its energy didn’t burn, it healed.

“You think light can erase ?” the Hate System sneered, its black tendrils lashing outward like serpents. “I feed on pain, betrayal, and guilt, and your precious Emily is full of all three!”

“Then I’ll fill her with sothing stronger,” the Love System’s voice rang, echoing through Nnenna’s mind like a hymn. “Hope. Forgiveness. Faith.”

The void trembled as both forces collided, light against darkness, love against hate. The clash wasn’t physical but emotional, every pulse of energy sending waves of mories through both systems.

Nnenna saw flashes, Emily as a child, crying in an empty room, rejected, abandoned, misunderstood. The Hate System had been there, whispering promises, giving her strength that wasn’t hers.

But the Love System reached into those sa mories, softening the edges, showing Emily monts she had forgotten, her laughter, her kindness, the faces of people who once believed in her.

“She doesn’t deserve this,” the Hate System growled, its form distorting as cracks of light spread across its shadowy body. “She doesn’t deserve any forgiveness!”

“No,” Nnenna replied quietly, “but love doesn’t wait for people to deserve it. It gives anyway.”

A blinding light flared from within Nnenna’s chest, surging through the void. The Love System pushed forward with a voice that seed to co from beyond, calm yet commanding.

“You have no hold here. The bond is broken.”

The Hate System scread, its voice splitting into a thousand echoes as chains of light wrapped around it. “You think you’ve won? You can’t destroy , I exist because of you humans and your endless pain!”

“Then you’ll stay where you belong,” the Love System replied firmly, “contained, until you learn what love ans.”

With that, the glowing chains pulled tight, trapping the Hate System in a prison of light, a barrier ford within the Love System itself. The darkness thrashed, twisted, and then finally went still.

The void shattered like glass.

Back in the real world, Nnenna gasped as her eyes snapped open.
