Chapter 237: Treasury of the Damned [1]
Meanwhile, within the General Hall of the treasury, countless figures were gathered, including many elves, humans, bears, demons and dragons alike.
Most of their eyes glowed with greed as they stared at the countless artifacts floating high above in the hall.
The treasures were unlike anything they had ever seen, ranging from objects smalled than a needle to some even the size of a massive adult dragon but more than their size, it was the energy they emitted that made them different.
It had only been a few minutes since they arrived in this hall at the same time, some after completing their trials while others after randomly finding a door and although no one had made a move, their bodies were tense to act at a moment’s notice.
Among the crowd were Rael’s friends or more precisely as he called them, his allies, Alya, Noah, Viola, Arthur, Seraphina and Sylvie.
They had all entered the hall through different random doors and somehow found each other almost immediately upon stepping into this vast chamber.
"Have any of you seen Rael...?" Viola asked, concern evident in her voice as she scanned the hall.
Noah frowned slightly.
Even after spending the last several days together, all she could think about was that Assborn. Still, he kept his thoughts to himself.
Seraphina, currently in her normal form, shook her head. "No. I tried to find him but I couldn’t sense him anywhere."
The others also shook their heads as well. Even Arthur, who would usually have been concerned about Rael, was silent. His body was covered in wounds and trembled slightly while his eyes looked hollow, making it evident that the treasury hadn’t been kind to him either.
Sylvie placed a hand on his shoulder. "Are you okay, Arthur...?"
Arthur looked at her as the words refused to come out but somehow, he managed.
"Yeah."
Meanwhile Alya, the strongest among them and their de facto leader, spoke up. "We don’t have time to look for anyone."
One of her eyes was missing, now hidden beneath an eyepatch.
"People are only calm because they are still adjusting and are still unsure but once they do... chaos will unfold but thankfully, most of their focus will be on the artifacts, so don’t draw too much attention to yourselves even if everyone here currently has similar strength."
She looked into each of their eyes.
"Our goal is neither artifacts nor revenge, its survival and as for the elves and the others, I am fairly certain the Demon Realm Army is already waiting for them outside."
Everyone nodded except Viola, who still couldn’t shake off her concern.
Right on cue, the floor trembled as the first few people finally made their move. It was a group of two arrogant demons with long grey hair and two sharp pointed horns. They looked as if they were from the same clan.
They lunged toward different artifacts but the others still didn’t react, waiting to see how it would turn out.
One of the demons grabbed a golden-colored sword and the moment his hand wrapped around it, a radiant glow flooded the entire chamber and in the next second, his body was covered in brilliant golden armor with the sword now resting at his waist.
His power, previously at the lowest level of D-Rank, surged instantly to the peak of D-Rank and that was only because the treasury itself limited everyone to D-Rank but in outside world... he would have easily leapt straight to B-Rank but before the demon could even celebrate acquiring such great artifact, a hand pierced straight through his chest.
He died instantly as another figure stepped forward and grabbed the sword from his falling body.
It wasn’t an elf or a dragon, instead it was his own kind, the demon with pointed ears and long grey hair who had lunged forward with him but other people didn’t care about the dramatic betrayal because the moment the crowd realized the powers these artifacts actually held, chaos erupted.
People lunged toward the artifacts, especially the ones emitting that golden glow because from what they had just witnessed... Those seemed to wield greatest power and were safe.
Just then, the entire chamber trembled as a massive golden door materialized in the center of the hall.
Everyone’s attention was immediately drawn toward it as the chaos paused for a few moment.
Countless eyes fixed on the door, waiting to see what kind of horror would emerge this time but instead of some monstrous being, a single man stepped out with pure white hair and green eyes with half of his face covered with a mask, leaving a smug smirk visible.
A black cloak fluttered behind him as if it had a will of its own.
The moment he stepped forward, his eyes scanned the whole hall as a card shot from his hand toward one corner of the hall where an ugly elf stood with one arm missing and before the crowd could even process it, he vanished and reappeared right in front of her.
The elf barely had time to react before his fist, wrapped in raging crimson flames, shot toward her head. Still, she tried to twist her body to dodge but he adjusted mid-strike, making his fist to follow her movement as if he knew all of her patterns.
Her head exploded like a crushed watermelon, spraying green blood splatter on his face.
"That’s what you get for punching me hundreds of times, bitch."
The woman was none other than the A-Rank elf who had once punched Rael before they all entered the Treasury, the one who had even haunted him countless times in the loop.
And the boy who had just killed her was Rael himself, who had taken full advantage of her suppressed rank and the element of surprise to exact his revenge.
For a second, the hall fell silent at the sight of a boy appearing out of nowhere and executing an elf so brutally but brutality was nothing new in this place as the battles resumed almost immediately.
Meanwhile, Rael’s gaze shifted toward a hooded boy standing across the hall, half his face hidden beneath the shadow of his cloak, leaving a scar visible.
The intensity in his stare was that of an ex after a particularly toxic breakup.
"So... he is that guy, huh?"
Rael muttered, giving a casual wave to his fellow transmigrator as he wiped the blood splattered on his face casually.
