Cheng Zhiwei agreed to be discharged from the hospital because she wanted Cheng Zhiyin to go back, but Cheng Zhiyin insisted on not leaving and even wanted to accompany her to Sparkling Sky City.
And no matter how much persuasion was applied, it was futile.
If urged further, she would simply turn her head away and silently weep, leaving Cheng Zhiwei with no choice but to compromise in the end.
Cheng Zhiyin’s room was arranged next to the master bedroom. She originally wanted to stay in the sa room as Cheng Zhiwei, but Cheng Zhiwei would not agree to it no matter what since she didn’t want Cheng Zhiyin to discover her hearing problem.
About a week passed by, and Cheng Zhiwei’s health improved significantly.
Cheng Zhiyin was almost always by Cheng Zhiwei’s side, never ntioning a word about how her ears and the wound on her forehead ca to be, as if she knew nothing about it.
Zhou Lin ca back ho to eat every day, and after finishing his al, he would go to the study. Cheng Zhiyin saw on several occasions that his secretary brought in a lot of docunts to the study, and sotis the two would leave in a hurry.
Life was extrely tranquil.
Another half a month went by, and Cheng Zhiwei was completely healed. Zhou Lin took her to attend a dinner party, and since Wang i had gone back due to family matters, only Cheng Zhiyin was left in the villa.
...
After another three days of tranquility, the news suddenly broke out that the newly appointed Vice President of Zhou Group was suspected of economic cris and had been taken away.
When Cheng Zhiwei saw the news, she was stunned for a mont before realizing that the Vice President was ng Qiancheng. She didn’t think much of it, assuming it was one of Zhou Lin’s strategies, oblivious to Cheng Zhiyin’s sudden pallor next to her.
Just then, Wang i ca in with a group of people, and with a strange expression, she said, "Young Madam, the police are here."
Cheng Zhiwei stood up, looking at the police officers in confusion, with Secretary Zhang standing by their side.
The police officer walked directly to Cheng Zhiyin, showed his badge, and said, "Cheng Zhiyin, you are suspected of involvent in an economic cri. Please co with us to assist with the investigation."
Cheng Zhiyin, pale-faced, responded calmly, "Okay."
"Wait," Cheng Zhiwei grabbed Cheng Zhiyin, shielding her behind herself, and furrowed her brows. "There must be so mistake. My sister doesn’t engage in comrce, how could she be involved in economic cri?"
She then turned to look at Secretary Zhang, "Secretary Zhang, what on earth is going on here?"
Secretary Zhang lowered his head to avoid Cheng Zhiwei’s probing gaze. After a few seconds, he said, "Miss Zhiyin is just going to assist with the investigation."
The police officers tried to take Cheng Zhiyin away.
Cheng Zhiwei suddenly pushed them back. Her whole body trembling and her face as white as paper, she said, "Don’t touch her."
The police officer calmly urged, "Young Madam Zhou, please stay calm."
"What exactly is going on? If you don’t clarify, I won’t let my sister go with you," Cheng Zhiwei demanded sharply.
"Young Madam," Secretary Zhang raised his voice and said firmly, "Miss Zhiyin stole an important docunt from Young President Zhou and gave it to ng Qiancheng, causing a huge financial loss to the group."
"Impossible," Cheng Zhiwei refused to believe. "Only you have the code to the study. She doesn’t know it. How could she have stolen the docunt?"
"I took sothing to copy Zhou Lin’s fingerprint," Cheng Zhiyin’s voice rose from behind her, with a tone of resignation. "On the night you both went to the dinner, I entered the study. Zhiwei, I am sorry. I ca back with you intending to do this."
She had lived here for nearly half a month, and taking Zhou Lin’s fingerprint was as easy as turning her hand.
Cheng Zhiwei shook her head desperately, "No, sister, you wouldn’t do such a thing. Did ng Qiancheng threaten you?"
As she spoke, she suddenly paused, feeling as though all the blood in her body had turned cold, a chilling sensation engulfing her, her voice trembling uncontrollably, "Is it because of ?"
Cheng Zhiyin was capable of doing sothing that went against her principles only for her sister’s sake.
Suppressing the surging emotions within her, Cheng Zhiyin raised her hand to touch Cheng Zhiwei’s face and smiled gently, "Zhiwei, without by your side, you must take good care of yourself, understand?"
"No, sister."
Cheng Zhiyin removed her sister’s hand and walked towards the police, "Let’s go."
All Cheng Zhiwei could do was to watch helplessly as Cheng Zhiyin was taken away, and her head throbbed with intense, dull pain, as if it were about to explode.
"Young Madam, I’ll be leaving now," Secretary Zhang said before he walked out.
However, his arm was caught by Cheng Zhiwei, her eyes red with both frost and hatred, "You did it on purpose."
Soone like Zhou Lin would never easily let Cheng Zhiyin steal important docunts. It was intentional, a setup to have Cheng Zhiyin steal the files and give them to ng Qiancheng. When ng Qiancheng thought he had the upper hand, Zhou Lin would strike unexpectedly.
All those tis he said he wanted Cheng Zhiyin to stay and take care of him were just excuses.
His life-and-death struggle with ng Qiancheng was their business; why involve Cheng Zhiyin?
A sweet, tallic taste rose in Cheng Zhiwei’s throat only to be forcibly swallowed back down. She didn’t need Secretary Zhang’s answer and asked again, "Where is Zhou Lin?"
"Young Madam, whether intentional or not, the fact is Miss Zhiyin stole the files," Secretary Zhang answered without responding to her question, prying Cheng Zhiwei’s hand off and leaving in haste.
Cheng Zhiwei collapsed to the ground and suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood, then blacked out.
"Young Madam," Wang i exclaid.
Secretary Zhang turned back for a glance then paused and instructed Wang i, "Help Young Madam back to her room; the doctor will be here soon."
Cheng Zhiwei had to stay here, even unconscious.
With no option to leave, just like Cheng Zhiwei, Wang i couldn’t help but ask, "What’s the situation outside now?"
Zhang Yuanheng didn’t know much and shook his head, "All I know is ng Qiancheng has been arrested and it involves many people. The chairman is overhauling the group."
Wang i sighed, "The chairman? And the young master?"
"Seo Zhenzhen is having surgery in three days, and he’s been accompanying her these days."
As the two talked, they left the room.
On the bed, Cheng Zhiwei slowly opened her eyes, tears sliding into her hair and leaving no trace.
Under the covers, her fingers clenched tightly into her palm. Zhou Lin, oh Zhou Lin, how could he be so rciless? Using her as a shield for Seo Zhenzhen wasn’t enough; now he had dragged her sister into this ss as well. He and He Lanzhi truly were cut from the sa cloth.
They grew up together like brothers, rotten to the core.
Her chest felt hollow, but she quickly gathered the little strength left in her body, struggled to sit up, and dragged her frail form downstairs.
Zhang Yuanheng was explaining to Wang i how to make the dicine when he was about to send it, and then saw Cheng Zhiwei holding onto the staircase, staggering down step by step.
Wang i rushed over to support her, "Young Madam, why have you gotten up?"
Cheng Zhiwei clutched Zhang Yuanheng tightly, her face void of any color and her eyes swollen severely. Yet, the words she spoke were forced calm, "Zhang Yuanheng, help , I need to see Zhou Lin."
