223: Chapter 224 The Backer is Influential 223: Chapter 224 The Backer is Influential Williams now flashed a strained smile and said, “Sister-in-law, I’m just enforcing the law impartially.”
Susan Will sneered coldly, “Impartial law enforcent, you say?
I’ll make sure to have a word with our Mr.
Scott about this.
Your so-called impartial law enforcent has co down on my son.”
Jas Johnson, offended by Susan Will’s mocking and righteous indignation, felt annoyed.
If it were John Smith talking to him like that, it would be one thing, but Susan Will was rely John Smith’s wife.
What right did she have to talk to him this way?
Besides, Williams had co on direct orders from the Director himself, so he felt quite confident.
With a faint smile, he said, “I will report this matter to Mr.
Shaw and the Director.”
“So what you an is, you’re going to let the person who hit my son walk free now?” Susan Will’s tone grew even more hostile.
Jas Johnson still wore a smile, “Indeed, the fault does not lie with the other party, so of course, they should be released.”
“Very well!” Susan Will laughed out of sheer anger, “Well then, I must talk to our Mr.
Scott about this.” As she spoke, she pulled out her phone.
At this point, Jas Johnson’s expression remained calm, while Susan Will began to rant loudly into the phone: “Mr.
Scott, I see your position as Deputy Director is becoming increasingly worthless.
Your son has been hit at the police station, and Director Jas Johnson is going to let the culprit go…
If our own son gets beaten to death, don’t you care?
Good!”
Having said that, and with a triumphant stretch of her hand, Susan Will said to Jas Johnson, “Our Mr.
Scott wants to speak to you.”
Jas Johnson took the phone but turned and walked out, closing the door behind him.
Only when he was alone in the hallway did he answer the call.
“Mr.
Wilson, what’s going on?” The voice of John Smith ca through the phone, sounding as though he was about to demand accountability.
Jas Johnson imdiately said, “Mr.
Shaw, it’s not that I don’t respect you, but I was personally instructed by the Director to handle this.”
John Smith exclaid in surprise, “The Director?
How did this matter escalate to the Director?”
“Mr.
Shaw, I can’t explain clearly, but from what I guess, the other party has significant backing.
The Director directly ordered to handle it impartially, without giving preferential treatnt just because it involves soone from within our ranks.”
As soone capable of attaining the position of Deputy Director of the T District, John Smith was certainly no ordinary man and not one to be compared to his brash wife.
Sensing more to the situation from Jas Johnson’s words, he imdiately said, “Thanks for informing , Mr.
Wilson.
I know what to do.
Now, hand the phone back to your sister-in-law.”
Jas Johnson agreed and returned to give Susan Will the phone, saying, “Sister-in-law, Mr.
Shaw wants to talk to you.”
Susan Will took the phone with a smug expression, convinced that her husband could easily handle Jas Johnson.
But upon connecting, John Smith spoke in a stern voice, “Co out and talk.”
Susan Will paused, taken aback.
Although she was fierce, she was no fool, nor the kind of woman who was completely clueless and only knew how to cause a scene.
She quickly went out to the hallway and asked urgently, “Mr.
Scott, what do you an by this?”
“Take your son and leave imdiately.
Let’s end it at that.
The other party has significant connections, and we can’t afford to provoke them.”
Susan Will was stunned again, her eyes wide in disbelief.
It took her a mont to reply, “Does that an our son was beaten for nothing?”
“What else would it an?
Do you want to drag down too?
This son is nothing but trouble, and it’s all because you spoil him so much, hmph!” With that, John Smith hung up the phone.
Her husband rarely spoke to her in such a manner, but each ti he did, it indicated a very serious problem.
Susan Will began to feel afraid.
She could be so outrageous because everyone gave her face, all thanks to her husband’s position as Deputy Director.
If her husband were to fall from grace, who would show her any respect then?
Thus, preserving her husband’s position was more important than anything else.
Upon returning to the room, Susan Will’s expression was extrely unsightly.
She glanced at Jas Brown, then, pulling her son along, she said, “Let’s go.
We’re going to the hospital.”
At that mont, Emily Jenkins did not forget to remind, “There’s still soone your son hit at the hospital.
Don’t forget to pay their dical bills too.”
Susan Will’s mouth twitched.
For so many years, this was the first ti a young girl had spoken to her like this.
It left her feeling very unpleasant inside, but she could only agree curtly, and then she left the police station looking defeated.
Jas Brown took Emily Jenkins and Emma Campbell out of the police station.
After getting in the car, Emily Jenkins, still feeling the aftershock, exclaid, “We really lucked out today, bumping into such a good Director.
Otherwise, we would have really been in trouble.”
Emma Campbell patted her chest and said, “I was so scared just now.
Hitting the son of the Deputy Director of the T District inside the police station, I thought Big Brother Brown was in big trouble this ti.
Thankfully, Director Jas Johnson was there.”
Listening to the two of them talk, Jas Brown did not interject.
He knew very well, having long passed the age of acting on impulse, just how powerful state agencies could be.
In such a place, relying solely on one’s physical skills and a burst of force would get you nowhere, unless he no longer wanted to live in YODC City.
So when Jas Brown realized sothing was off, he secretly made a phone call to Mayor Christopher Brown, telling him that there was an issue at the police station, asking for his help to solve it.
Christopher Brown might not care about Jas Brown, but he dared not ignore Lucy Campbell’s face.
After Lucy Campbell specially introduced Jas Brown to them, he clearly understood that Jas Brown must hold an important place in Lucy Campbell’s heart, or was soone Lucy Campbell valued highly.
For such a minor issue, he naturally could not refuse to help.
However, Jas Brown specifically reminded Christopher not to reveal his identity and just let him handle it normally.
Christopher then directly arranged for the T District chief to take care of the matter, which was making a mountain out of a molehill, so in the end it was Deputy Chief Jas Johnson of the precinct who stepped in.
Jas Brown only wanted to live the life of an ordinary person, but sotis he couldn’t help but make use of such social connections.
Not to bully others, but for self-protection, it was quite necessary.
It was really thanks to Lucy Campbell that he was saved the trouble, otherwise he would have had to put pressure through the Hawk Squad, which would be like using a sledgehamr to crack a nut, both embarrassing and too much of a bully.
When they arrived at the residential complex, the three of them took the elevator up together.
At this mont, Emily Jenkins was in a good mood, and she cheerfully said to the two, “Big Brother Brown, Emma, it’s getting late; I won’t disturb your sweet ti together.”
Emma’s face instantly blushed, but she and Jas Brown living together was sothing Emily Jenkins already knew about.
At this point, she could only lower her head with flushed cheeks, twisting the hem of her clothes, not daring to look at Jas Brown, because she knew that today she would be taking things to the next level with Jas Brown.
After bidding Emily goodbye, Jas Brown and Emma entered their ho.
Seeing Emma’s shy deanor, Jas Brown couldn’t help feeling moved.
He extended his arm and embraced Emma in his arms, gently kissing her on the face, saying, “I wanted to take you out on a date, but instead, you got a fright.”
Emma hurriedly said, “Big Brother Brown, I’ve been very happy today.
With Big Brother Brown there, Emma wasn’t scared at all; I was just worried that sothing would happen to Big Brother Brown.”
Jas Brown chuckled and said, “I was a bit impulsive today; I won’t let you worry like that again.” He didn’t ntion that he had already smoothed things over through connections, as it might create a sense of distance with Emma.
From their ti together, Jas Brown felt that Emma’s feelings for him were certainly genuine, but the girl’s only flaw was her lack of confidence.
If she knew the gap between them was too large, it would only make Emma even less confident, which would not be beneficial to their relationship.
“Mhm, what I’m most afraid of is sothing happening to Big Brother Brown, Emma is relying on you for life.
If you ran into trouble, Emma wouldn’t know what to do.” Emma nestled in Jas Brown’s arms, holding tightly onto his waist and murmuring.
Jas Brown also held Emma tightly, saying, “Silly girl, for you, I won’t let myself get into trouble.
Alright, let’s wash up and go to bed; it is indeed getting late.”
Emma gave a soft hum and hugged Jas Brown for a little while longer before going to take a bath.
When he was at the police station, Gina Lopez had made several calls to him, which Jas Brown had not answered.
Now that he finally had the chance, he had to return Gina’s call, but before he could dial out, Emily Lopez called.
“Brother-in-law, what are you up to now?”
“I’m at ho, what’s up, Sandra?”
“Brother-in-law, what are you really thinking?
Are you ever actually going to marry my sister?”
“Get married?
I’m just helping out.
It’s not like you have to get married for helping out, right?”
“Hehe, you really an to say you don’t have any feelings for my sister?
My sister is a beauty, you know.”
“Sandra, I have a girlfriend.
How can I marry your sister?”
“Right, right, as long as you say that, I feel relieved.
I was afraid you really had feelings for my sister.
Knowing you don’t, I have to work even harder.”
“Look here, Sandra, I have a girlfriend.” Jas Brown emphasized again.
“I’m not saying I’ll break you two up.
At most, I’ll only ss with you when you’re with my sister.
When did I ever play tricks when you’re with your girlfriend?”
“That’s true, but Sandra, isn’t it nice for us to just be normal friends?”
“Hehe, love often starts with friendship.
I believe that sooner or later, we’ll experience love.”
“You, you’re making it so I dare not to see you.”
“I don’t care, I like my brother-in-law and that’s that.
Besides my sister, I’m not afraid of anyone else.
Unless you get married, I won’t give up.”
“Alright, alright.” Jas Brown was at a loss with Emily Lopez.
Mainly because, even though Emily Lopez made such statents, it didn’t really bother or worry him.
She had said it many tis, but it hadn’t actually pressured him – rather, it was Gina Lopez that gave him more pressure.
