I let out a shaky sigh as I stared into the darkness of dungeon. There was no light where he stayed, who a man who had brightened up my day, this was unexpected and unfair. "I hate this." I whispered hoping that he would catch then and understand that I did not want this to happen to him but my hands were bound as well.
My eyes swelled up again with tears and I sniffed. He had been tortured because of . He was not even aware why.
"Do it." I glanced at the lamp in Marilyn’s hand. "I want to see him." My words were barely leaving my mouth as I wanted to cry instead of facing him with courage.
She did as told and I saw his fallen form imdiately as the soft glow of light took over. My heart clenched at the sight of him, lying there like he was lifeless.
rilyn stepped forward and unlocked the cage that my heart was thrown into and as soon as she pulled open the door, I stepped in and ran to him only to stop short.
I gasped at the sight in front of .
A shaking hand covered my mouth and my vision blurred with tears which I felt roll down my cheeks. He was barely recognisable! His face was swollen with bruises and wounds which still had blood slipping out of them. His legs were placed in an awkward position which made wonder if they were broken or not. His fingers were bent in a different angle making bile rise up in my throat.
I turned away as I felt it co up to my throat. Taking the support of the wall I heaved as I bent down.
I felt hands on my back, comforting from the sight that blew away. This is what the Prince had done. He had done this only because he could not do that to the prince I was supposed to marry as my duty, so the little happiness that a man gave to through not even touching , he had taken away.
I had to do it, I had to face the consequences of it. If prince Lysar had not done it and my father was aware of it, he would have done the sa as well.
I bent down in front of his fallen and injured form. Perhaps the first ti I had ever kneeled in front of man and for him I was not afraid to do so. "Tristan," I breathed out the word as if a chant and his eyes opened imdiately making gasp. "You’re . . you are. ." I could no longer control it. The sobs had started to rake my body and I cried my heart out.
"ma . ..dy . ." he groaned out and I picked up his battered head and placed it my lap. It was heavy but I just wanted to be near him.
"I am so, so sorry. I did not know that they would do this to you." I sniffed and said the words out with bravery. "I will make it up to you, I swear."
He laughed, a gentle yet pained sound I had beco. It hurt and as a royal I was immune to people crying.
"You should not apologise." Said Tristan. "I will be fine. Nothing is your fault."
On the contrary my love, it is my entire fault. "I can’t. I will get you out of here. I will make sure of it."
"I will tell you to take care of yourself instead." He breathed it out. Every word spoken by him is said slowly and with massive amounts of energy before he would fall asleep again. "That prince is . . After you. I cannot protect you yet, you should be away . .from . . .him."
I chuckled. I had a whole army to protect and he wanted to help and protect ? "You want to protect ?" I smiled as I said it and lightly caressed his forehead, careful not to touch any bruised skin. "I am blessed to know that."
He opened his mouth but ended up coughing making panic. "Careful, Tristan." I very lightly patted his back which could have not equalled to anything, but I was too scared to touch him and cause him anymore pain.
"Here," rilyn ca forward with a wooden glass of water and with quickened breathing. She must have left while I was talking to him. I took it from her gave him so, gentling raising him up with both of our help; he drank a sip or two.
"You . . do not . . know the ex. .tent of your blessings." He rasped out and it pained more. I did not any attention to his words anymore.
"Rest your energy, my dear," I whispered and stared at his face in my lap, "You need it and I promise that I will free you from here." I sniffed and a tear slipped out my eye and feel right below his eye making him open his to et mine.
He blinked as if what he watched was surreal. He raised his hand up, it shook, but he continued until he touched my face.
"What?" I whispered with a smile and with a little nudge of my head to his hand which I covered with mine so that he didn’t have to use much strength.
He shook his head; if I was not paying all my attention to him I would have missed it. "You are crying for ," he said as it confused him, "so soon?"
Perhaps love has no pace. And for soone like , the one who had craved love, affection and protection all her life, it happened quickly with the man who provided it even when he could have chosen not to.
I only smiled at him. "Rest, I-"
"Leave." The word left his mouth as if a command and my body summoned whole to obey. His eyes glazed over as if his attention was elsewhere.
"Wh-What?"
His eyes flew my own. "Leave, they are coming. Do not let them see you."
I did not listen. I was reluctant, I realised, I was reluctant to even save my life. "I am not going to-"
"Pri-Layla, we must!" rilyn held my shoulders, "If they see you here, they will kill him if not then they might cause him more harm which we cannot afford." she rubbed her hands on my shoulders which did provide comfort.
"Go," he said again as he stared into my eyes, "I will be fine."
I gulped, feeling confliction all over. I could not leave him but I also could not be the reason for another brutal beating for him. It would not be fair for any of us. "I’ll be back." I promised him and his lips moved upwards slightly. He knew that I would co and the reassurance from him was enough for .
"We will et again." he said instead and his words and eyes held more confidence that .
I nodded but I knew it won’t be true.
I placed his head down on the cold and forgiving ground of the dungeons. He hissed in pain making cry too. "I am sorry." I whispered again with a sniff.
He laughed but coughed instead.
No longer with the courage to stay, I left with tear flowing from my eyes as rilyn followed after locking the cage; the cage that my heart resided in. I could not even enjoy the feeling of love from afar.
"Stop," I whispered and rilyn turned to with a frown. I thought about sothing, it was a fleeting thought but it could actually work. They could help.
"What is the matter?" my companion asked. "We cannot go back." She shook her head in warming knowing that I did not have the heart to leave but had to.
"We would not." I promised her. "Tell this, how did you know where to find Tristan when I was abducted?"
She looked taken aback by the sudden change of conversation but thought about it as she looked away for a few monts. "Chiara; Tristan’s aunt and Lara’s mother, has a shop in the market and their house is a few streets away. We found them there when we looking for you."
At the end of every hallway, there was a window. By looking out of the window I could tell that it was around midnight and this was perfect for to execute the plan.
"We are leaving. Do you know here the servants entrance is from?" that was the only entrance which not guarded as heavily as the others were.
"Yes, I know where that is, but," she hesitated and looked around just as I was doing repeatedly. "Why are you asking that? We cannot go out at this ti!"
I shake my head. This was sothing I was truly determined about. "The man might not survive and we do not have much ti. The prince would take long before linking us behind it. We carry it out as soon as possible which ans, tonight."
