"We will help him escape." I declared.
She did not respond imdiately probably still processing and it was who had said those words.
"Your. . . Highness said sothing?" She frowned. "I think I heard you say, that we will help escape a man from prison."
"Yes, I said that."
"Oh," she gulped. "I am assuming that your highness knows what it will do to the relations between our countries?" her hesitance was not for the country but more for what would happen to if I got caught. She was right. Even though I wanted to end the misery of the rchant I had feelings for, I could risks thousands of life for it especially when I was dealing with a man leading the barbaric country. Prince Lysar would not think twice before going to war and having consummate our marriage.
I sighed and stood up, ready to be dressed. With a heavy heart, I had concluded that it did not matter what I felt for the, and, how my heart thudded loudly for him and when in public I would always look for him, how confident did he make feel and was not afraid of asking questions or taking the lead.
Perhaps, fate had never intended with him to live with . It was all a matter of the ga that fate played. It had made realise that with the marriage with Prince Terrence, this was what I was not going to receive.
For helping dress up another made arise and together with Marilyn they made ready for the night. I kept on thinking that what we could do to make sure that Tristan would co out of the dungeons without any harm but I was not even sure if he was there, to begin with.
Marilyn was combing my hair and putting them into a braid for the night. I always enjoyed this as it ant that the day was finally over and I was going to rest from all the responsibilities heavy on my head. But this night only conflict was on my mind.
Heavy confliction along with fear.
It dawned on various possibilities of the prince torturing Tristan just because it appeared to be that I had feelings for him. I could not have been that obvious while talking to the rchant, I was sure of that which ant that the prince had been noticing us for more than I was aware.
I looked at rilyn from the mirror and watched her as she focused on combing my hair. She was the only person I could confide in without fearing for the rumours rising. I felt like crying as I found myself being caged into making a forceful decision.
A man’s life mattered just because I liked him and saving him would an breaking year’s long betrothal and risking banishnt from my own country too.
It was too much for to deal with, too much for soone who never wanted this. I never wanted a taste of a loving man but now I was addicted.
"The prince threw Tristan in the prison. Do you know what he asked to do to release him?" I murmured knowing by the distance that Marilyn sat away from , she would be able to hear it. I had to get it off my chest. It was burying to know that he could be dying for all I knew.
The Brushing slowed down as she focused on . "What?" She asked in her soft voice, her care was felt.
I gulped and the struggle to get the words out was bad. It was too strong. It felt the impact of those now. "He wanted to marry him."
The Brushing stopped and I heard a clank. rilyn had let go of the brush in shock as she stared at and our eyes connected over the mirror.
"What?" She brought a trembling hand to her mouth. "What?!" she gawked, shocked by the entire plot. "The-I am assuming it would not be wrong that the prince landed Tristan there because he knew your interest in him." She muttered to herself as she picked up the brush and dusted it.
My blood boiled again, what was it with people assuming it on their own. "I have no interest in him!" I wanted to vomit as I said the words thinking that soone they would turn true and I would be released of the imprisonnt.
She sighed as a mother would do with a stubborn child. "I have been with you for as long as I can rember and whenever you can not have sothing, you believe that it is not good enough or that you are no longer interested in it." Her eyes glanced at mine, "you play gas with your mind."
She was more intelligent than I thought which made think of sothing else. "Put that wit to use and find out where Tristan is. The chefs would know about the new prisoner." I hoped that they did. It was the only option I had before trying to pry information off the prince.
I no longer wished to talk to him. Lysar would take it a route closer to getting what he wanted. , as an accessory to his arm. He considered to be beautiful but also soone that would require keeping her mouth shut. The royal family of Lethoris; house Killinsburgh, was known for having barbaric n in control. They chose won who were demure and motherly which were common traits to be found in won in general but for them, the more obedient a woman was in public, the better it was.
They were spoiled and loved, also provide with the assurity that the n who never have any other woman pregnant from the harem or anywhere else and if they did, the child would ever be able to claim the throne.
He wanted to be like that but I could find in my soul to not speak up where I could.
rilyn left for the kitchens and I retired for the bed but I was far from falling asleep.
********
"wake up!"
Fearing for the worst my eyes imdiately opened and I shoved the person away.
"ooh!" I heard a thud and turned the fla of the lantern higher making the room more lit and visible than before.
"rilyn!" I gasped and then frowned as I helped her up. "How many tis do we have to talk about this? Do not sleep on the floor!"
She glared at . "You threw on the floor." She cleared her throat and a small, excited smile ca to her face, "I found him. But we must hurry because the guards would be standing there in the night."
Wait for what? "Lethoris does not have the dungeons patrolled?" for a country that conquered and did not think twice before giving a ruthless decision, how could they not have the dungeons patrolled.
"They do not keep prisoners alive for long."
My eyes closed as I prayed to the lord that he was alive because now only the lord could help with it. "What did you find?" I asked as I watched her take my cloak and help wear it in a hurry.
"He is there, that is confird but the chefs are not allowed to give anything more. I don’t think they know much too." She whispered and stood in front of . "Genevieve, are you sure that you want to go down the dungeons with ? It is not appropriate for a woman much less a princess go down there without the guards."
Listening to her words, I realised that I would have never done this before in my life ever for anyone But I guess love made it happen for a lot of people and not only , whichis why when this ti my eyes and I did not stop the tears from flowing.
and as far as the topic remained of her going without , there was no way I was going to let her go to the dungeons without soone.
"I cannot stop myself from doing this," I revealed to Marilyn with teary eyes and a croaky throat. "I do not know if the prince did it because I have feelings for the man and the prince had feelings for but the bottom line is that the he is suffering because of and I cannot tolerate it any longer." I did not like my people suffering from and this man was suffering from the feelings I had.
"Oh no," she hugged imdiately and cald down. "We must hurry then." She grabbed my hand and without any further delay, we found the staircase used by the servants and descended to the lowest level of the castle. From the gold plated walls and thick luxurious curtains, we had gone to the walls that would dark in colour, gloomy in nature and were the witness of several people dying instead of thriving in life.
This was where we were.
"Do you know what cell it is?" I whispered as a glanced around back and forth again and again. I was sure that I had slight whispering.
"Yes," she stopped and pointed to the Infront of her. "It is that one."
