Chapter 28: 124 (2)
Kanium looked like he wanted to step in and stop her, but he was too late. This really was humorous. That drink seed to be poisoned.
Hesitating, he looked at the crowd of invited guests.
"Ah, yes, yes. Of course, may this drink be the first step of our kinship," said the king.
Right when the glass was about to touch the king’s lips, Kanium stepped forward and tripped on himself, making the wine splatter to the ground.
"This is the crown prince? What a fool!" A man from the crowd laughed.
Soon, the room followed suit. The room was perated with laughter. Even Vertere couldn’t help but laugh at the ordeal.
"I can’t believe I used to be tooled around by such a ss...!" Vertere wiped a tear from his face.
Standing up, Kanium put his head down but glared at Incus with killing intent in his eyes.
His hatred for Incus seed to have increased.
"Vertere, do you know anything about his plans?"
"He was going to poison Incus during the party, but knowing him, his rotten personality tells
that he isn’t going to stop."
Wiping his stained suit with a handkerchief, Kanium excused himself:
"I shall be making my way now. I can’t attend the banquet with a soiled suit. Pardon my leave, Father..." Glancing at Steinen, he grit his teeth.
"And to you, Lady Incus, I hope you enjoy your coming days."

As the party went on, nothing happened. No attempt at assassination, just a casual party. Not that it was a bad thing. It was a good change of pace for us to indulge ourselves.
Soon, the banquet ended.
"Man, that party was amazing!" Alleus took off her belt and lifted up her shirt.
Nodding, Lieur added:
"I agree. There was a lot of delectable wine."
Reverting his face back to normal, Vertere put his wooden wand away.
"Phew, that was stressful. Glad that’s over."
Making our way back to the chamber’s room, soone stepped in front of us.
Vertere wore a face of shock.
"Do you know him?"
But he didn’t give
an answer.
"Vertere, how are you alive?"
"It’s one of Kanium’s lackeys." Vertere’s hand was shaking, just a swipe away from pulling out his wand.
"Answer ! How are you alive?!" The noble lackey gripped his sword.
Alleus stepped up, even though she was unard.
"Step down, Alleus. I’ll deal with this."
Raising a hand, I invited him to combat.
"Ha, you think your martial arts can defeat my sword? How foolish."
I should finish this within two minutes, since Incus was about thirty ters away and getting further.
Lunging forward, I stepped on his sword handle before it could be unsheathed and did a spinning kick with the heel of my foot toward his temple.
"Argh!"
As he fell to the ground, I took his sword.
"Urgh, you imbecile! How dare you taint my sword with your filthy hands—!"
I cut off one of his fingers.
"Ahhh, my finger!"
Looking at Vertere, I stomped on the noble’s head.
"You were afraid of this fool? You’re much stronger than you think you are, so you shouldn’t be cowering in fear. Take your wand and kill him."
"Ring, you can’t make him do that!" Alleus protested.
Hesitating, Vertere pulled out his wand.
Seeing this, Alleus put her hand on his shoulder.
"You don’t have to do this, Vertere."
"...N-no. I want to do this. I’m tired of being pushed around." Pointing his wand, he began to chant.
"W-wait! Don’t kill . I was out of line! Please forgive —"
Cutting off his pleas for rcy, the chanting had already finished. Jumping out of the way, I stabbed him in the leg so that he wouldn’t try to escape.
"...Water disk."
A flat, spinning disk of water floated over his wand. Flicking his wand, the disk cut off the noble’s neck.
Grabbing the scabbard from the noble’s dead body and pulling out the sword, we began to run after Incus.
"Ring, you can’t keep killing people. It’s just not right."
"Don’t worry, Alleus. He was just a background character. His death ans nothing. "Again with this conversation. Why wouldn’t she understand? We were nothing but characters. There was no afterlife for us, just complete erasure.
"If you’re okay with killing them, then you should kill
as well."
"...I can’t do that. You have worth that no one else has. "And you’re also my first companion... no, friend. Your life is worth more than the lives of outcasts.
Seeing that the Chapter was finished, I read the draft.

Stuffing my pouch with bandages, food, and anything remotely useful, I closed my pouch and brandished the steel sword I had recently acquired.
"Captain, do you know what the raid is about?" Lieur asked.
Shaking my head, I gave my flask to Vertere for him to fill it up.
"No, I don’t, but I’m pretty sure that it’s just a demon raid. It didn’t specify that it was going to be a raid by a demon general."
"Water flow." Vertere filled up the flask with water and handed it back before asking a question:
"How many demon generals are there?"
"There’s only one left. Once Incus gets over that hurdle, she’ll battle the demon lord, and that’s our indication that the novel is only a few Chapters away from ending."
Glancing over at Alleus, I threw her an apple.
"You’re looking glum. Anxious, partner?" Of course I knew that this was about last night.
Catching the apple, she looked at it.
"...Geez, you’re such a jerk sotis. Maybe you’re right. We should take care of ourselves."
"No, you’re right. I should be more wary of my actions."
Seeing the door open, Steinen put his head against the wall.
"I should just kill that prince."
Waving my hand for everyone else to get back, we slowly crouched back.
"What’s happening?" Alleus whispered.
"I don’t know." I winced.
