"Ah!" Chen Yayan was caught up in the mont, then suddenly pushed away so rudely, feeling both alard and wronged, "Jue, what’s wrong... did I do sothing wrong?"

"No, it’s nothing to do with you." Yan Sijue showed a few traces of weariness on his face. He took off his suit jacket, tossed it casually onto the coffee table, and lit a cigarette.

Chen Yayan noticed he had sothing on his mind. Although deeply disappointed, she showed no hint of it on her face. She knew clearly that wisdom and the ability to read situations were her greatest strengths. She must not let him down, and she could not reveal even the slightest emotion she felt for him. She obediently folded his jacket and said, "When you said you’re coming, I asked the kitchen to prepare so snacks. Would you like to have so?"

"Go ahead." Yan Sijue dismissed her offhandedly, finding a pack of cigarettes from under the coffee table, taking one out, lighting it.

He didn’t normally smoke, but when agitated, he’d light a cigarette, watching it slowly burn away at his fingertips.

He had deliberately co to Chen Yayan’s place today to ease the sense of defeat from being ignored by Mu Yiliang, but it was of no use.

Thinking of Mu Yiliang’s carefree deanor made him extraordinarily irritable.

Even though he kept telling himself this woman was heartless, to still be entangled with her was utterly aningless, he couldn’t deceive himself.

Especially seeing her again a few days ago, those details he thought he’d long forgotten surfaced, almost constantly springing out, upsetting his mind.

He recalled when in S City, ntioning his childhood experience, the shock and heartache in her eyes.

He rembered her sitting on the bay window in his white shirt, looking lost.

He also recalled when she first told him about that child, her innocent yet hopeful smile.

And just a few days ago when they were locked in the sa room, her insecure sleeping posture and unusually pale complexion.

So pale and fragile... he thought she was perhaps playing weak to make him spare her, but now he realized, this woman was never like that, moreover, when had she ever been afraid of him?

Yan Sijue’s eyes suddenly darkened!

She must be hiding sothing from him!

Whether his premonition was wrong or not, at least it gave him an excuse, an excuse to continue investigating.

Ultimately, he couldn’t deceive himself, just letting her off wasn’t sothing he could resign himself to! And... he couldn’t bear to.

He didn’t believe she was entirely heartless towards him!

Even if there was no outco, he needed to find an answer.

Thinking of this, Yan Sijue forcefully stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray, as if flas were burning in his eyes.

Chen Yayan then walked out from the kitchen, holding a tray.

"Jue, I baked these myself." She smiled sweetly, crouched down, placing a hand on his knee, "Give them a try, won’t you?"

Yan Sijue snapped back from his thoughts.

Perhaps after convincing himself, the irritation within him had diminished quite a bit.

So, he faintly smiled and picked up a piece.

"You made this?"

"Yes. Since I had nothing else to do at ho." Chen Yayan said, then suddenly hesitated.

Yan Sijue keenly picked up on this, squinting slightly: "What’s wrong?"

"A few days ago... I ran into an old classmate." Chen Yayan hesitated for a mont before finally speaking, "He asked what I’m doing lately, if I have a boyfriend. I was afraid he’d cling, so I said I have a boyfriend... they’re planning a class reunion and insisted I co, and said I should bring my boyfriend..."

The more she spoke, the quieter her voice beca. She blinked pitifully at him: "Jue, what should I do? Can you lend an assistant to pretend..."

Yan Sijue raised an eyebrow.

This woman was always obedient and clever. Never demanding of him, sotis he wouldn’t rember her for several months, and she wouldn’t complain.

Now she suddenly made a request, but it was articulated so skillfully—suggesting borrowing an assistant left her an out, neither making Yan Sijue uncomfortable nor embarrassing herself.

Such occasional little sches, Yan Sijue didn’t mind.

"When’s the gathering?" He seed to suddenly recall sothing, curling his lips into a slightly mysterious smile.
