Chapter 77: Chapter 77

Benjamin wanted to tell Adeline to shut up but at the sa ti, he wanted to see her get an earful from their father. ’Is she drunk?’ He wondered. It wasn’t like Adeline to act like this.

Adeline stood firm on what she spoke. How much longer was she to go on cleaning up the ss while Benjamin did as he wanted?

The solution was simple so she wasn’t asking for much. It was the one thing she asked for in years from her father.

Vance didn’t respond imdiately and started to make his way to the door where his children stood. "Repeat what you said. I must do what?"

Adeline took a step back. She knew her father didn’t like to be told what to do but she had to say sothing since he wasn’t getting Benjamin in check.

This was unlike her father as it started to appear like he wanted to lose and wasn’t letting the two of them in on it. Yet he would put all the bla on them if this all crumbled.

Benjamin got out of the way so he wouldn’t be hit in place of Adeline. He was already scared out of his mind last night and didn’t need another cruel awakening from Vance. Adeline needed to be taught a thing or two as well. It couldn’t always be him getting criticised.

"I said to control your son just like you have been telling

to control mine. That’s the best way to avoid having to be watching him to clean up any ss he gets in. We’re wasting money having to buy others into silence or to keep them on our side," Adeline argued. "Letting Benjamin do as he likes goes against everything you taught us."

Vance wasn’t interested in what Adeline had to say, he was mostly amused by the fact she was speaking up. This wasn’t like her and he didn’t like it. "Your brother is always going to screw up which is why you need to be there to help him. Benjamin, don’t drink anymore."

’It’s not only the drinking. It’s the other things he does that put him out of his right mind. He has a driver for when he’s too drunk to drive but I don’t have a solution for when he gets high out of his mind. Have him stop doing everything bad and act like he’s supposed to so he doesn’t need ," said Adeline.

"Adeline," Vance said, having enough of her telling him what to do. "When I think your brother is getting out of hand then I will tell him to drop his act."

"You are taking your ti correcting him because you’re not the one who always has to clean up his ss. Why are you so against making him obedient? Do you need sothing to hold over his head if he doesn’t obey you anymore? Do not," Adeline said as Vance raised his hand.

She knew it would co to this if she spoke up but it was still disappointing to see.

"Nathan is in the car and he will want to know why I returned with a mark on my face. You wouldn’t want him to know that you hit his wife, would you?" Adeline asked, hoping this would be enough to scare her father.

Vance looked over Adeline to the front door. "If you ca with him, why is he still in the car? What agenda did you co here with? To make demands?"

"I ca asking to be relieved of so of the work I do. You don’t want my marriage with Nathan to end yet you won’t make Benjamin behave. You only value my opinion when I am coming up with an event idea to make this family look good but not when it concerns him," Adeline looked to her brother.

"I don’t have any agenda because you know I am afraid of you. You’ve raised us to be afraid of you and it worked so much that I would give you my son to keep

safe. Unfortunately, seeing that my marriage almost suffered and I just hate Benjamin too much to keep wiping his ass, I have to make so demands. So, will you listen?" Adeline asked.

Vance considered giving her what she wanted.

Benjamin couldn’t believe how civil the conversation was going yet his father seed ready to beat him last night. "If she has so demands to be heard then I have so I want to share."

Adeline frowned. What demands could her brother have when everyone did everything for him? He was just ruining her chance.

"No," Vance started, his mind made up. "To the both of you."

If he gave Adeline what she wanted then Benjamin was going to start asking for things. He did need to get Benjamin to behave but he gave Adeline a role to play and she was to do it without any complaints.

"You will help your brother as you have always done. It’s what I prepared you to do so do it. I need to speak to the two of you so co quickly then you will go to make up for Benjamin being here-"

"No," Adeline spoke up. She couldn’t believe it.

Adeline had only co to ask him to make Benjamin clean his act up but it ca to this. At the rate her father was going this ship was going to sink soon and before it did Adeline was getting off. She was not going down with this family after all the ti she spent building herself up.

Family didn’t matter then.

Benjamin was tempted to say sothing to help Adeline since she made the mistake of interrupting their father. What was she thinking? Her marriage had to be getting to her for her to be this way. He didn’t believe that Adeline was sane at this mont.

"Adeline," Benjamin said, laughing to ease the tension. "The joke wasn’t that good so it’s ti to end it. Tell him that you’re just joking and let us talk."

"When have I ever made a joke in this family? We’re not the type to sit around and joke with each other. I’ve given it my all to help with the dreams for this family with

getting the short end of the stick in rewards yet I can’t have demands to ease

of the work I do. I’m done," Adeline announced.

She knew her life was on the line here but she was going to trust that Nathan could protect her. Liam was on his own to protect him and Veronica.

For once, Adeline had to think about herself.
