Chapter 76: Chapter 76

"Little sister. I thought I wasn’t going to see you for a while since you didn’t show up to dinner. How is that husband of yours? Close to divorcing you yet?" Benjamin asked.

Benjamin stood by the front door of his parent’s ho watching as Adeline got out of her car. She was in a foul mood but that was nothing new with his sister. "I put in a good word for you when you didn’t show up. You should thank ."

"The day I thank you for anything would be the sa day I drop dead. Don’t hold your breath waiting for

to thank you. It is you who needs to thank

since I have been doing a damn good job of keeping your image clean. I like diamonds as a thanks," Adeline said as she walked by her brother to go inside.

Benjamin smiled. "I’m afraid you need to hear the sa thing from , Addy. See, the only won I would buy diamonds for are my mother, wife, and daughter. I might be kind to get you sothing small if you get down on your knees and beg. Can I get you to dress up like a dog while you do it?"

Adeline joined Benjamin in smiling. "You should be careful that I don’t cut you. You push

closer to doing it day by day."

"Push you? You already stabbed

in the leg when we were younger. Rember? You didn’t like that I took your precious little book so you took your pen and stabbed

in the leg. I still cannot believe that I ended up with an earful when I was the victim. You’ve always been the one he likes more," Benjamin realised.

"What are you on about now? I don’t have the patience to deal with your muttering," Adeline said, regretting that she ca for a visit while Benjamin was here. "Wait. Why are you here? You have a busy schedule."

"I didn’t like the schedule so I changed it and then thought I would drop by to see father. Imagine my surprise when I see your car coming inside. I might have missed a secret eting today. I’m telling you to thank . I stopped going to et your son to co here," Benjamin revealed.

Adeline stopped walking and stared at the back of Benjamin. "What do you an? You were told to et with Liam?"

"Well, he’s our father’s pride and joy these days so I have to bring him here since you are failing to do it. If you are having trouble controlling your son just bring him to , Adeline. I will give him a good talk as his uncle. It seems you and Nathan have too much on your plate with the possibility of divorce-"

"Stop talking about what you don’t know about. Nathan and I will never get a divorce. You and your mute wife are more likely to get a divorce before I ever divorce Nathan. Out of the way," Adeline said, shoving Benjamin to the side.

Benjamin held back from reacting. She was too bold today by pushing him. "And why do you say that? My marriage is good."

"I refer to your wife, a woman who can speak, as mute and you do nothing about it. You don’t defend her and let us not get started about the way you embarrass her when you get a little bit drunk. Is she still convincing herself that you are a wonderful husband? Do not touch ," Adeline said, looking down at where Benjamin held onto her.

"Hey. I am getting very tired of you always speaking like this to . I am your older brother so where do you get off speaking to

as you like? Always looking down on

and thinking you are better than ," Benjamin said, squeezing her hand so it might leave a bruise.

Sotis he just had a thought about striking her to get her to shut up.

Adeline yanked her hand out of Benjamin’s hold. "I know that I am better than you and you know it too. That’s why you get so worked up about it. You couldn’t last long without . He doesn’t see it but he’s made you into an idiot who doesn’t know how to do anything for himself. You should be upset that you were turned into a puppet."

"I am not a puppet. You need to start-"

"What are the two of you doing inside my ho?" Vance asked, interrupting the heated conversation. "Benjamin, what are you doing here? Don’t you have sowhere else to be?"

Benjamin changed his attitude now that his father was present. "I had so free ti so I thought I would stop by then I ran into Adeline."

"He shouldn’t be here. He has important etings to attend. Ones that he cannot afford to miss. I’ll be dealing with angry-"

"Leave him," Vance said, wanting to speak to the two of them since they were present.

Adeline couldn’t help but laugh. "Leave him? I said they were important. How much money do you want to pay out to keep these people happy? You need to send him away or I will be stuck going around trying to keep them on our side."

Adeline didn’t understand her father. For soone who spent so much ti trying to make them obedient, he was allowing Benjamin to act like a fool at the worst possible ti. What was he thinking?

No matter how good she had beco at cleaning up behind Benjamin the best solution was for her father to have Benjamin behave. Benjamin would stop if their father was harder on him since Adeline knew her brother was more afraid of their father than she was yet Vance was doing nothing.

"I need to speak to the two of you," said Vance.

Adeline bit her lip. She didn’t want to say what was on her mind but she couldn’t hold on any longer. "Control Benjamin so I don’t need to be waiting to clean up his ss. Eventually, sothing is going to slip and ruin all of this. Get him to behave so there isn’t a need to bribe anyone."

Benjamin looked at Vance. It was obvious his father wasn’t happy with Adeline telling him what to do. "Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, Adeline? You’re acting like I did sothing no one else in the city does. Don’t take your marriage troubles out on us."

"I do not have marriage problems. I am tired of having to rush to clean up after him while he isn’t told to just not drink or smoke anything. Control your son," Adeline told her father.
