Chapter 494: Chapter 492 Spicy Rabbit Head

More than ten minutes later, a refreshed Jiang Feng erged from the bathroom.

At this mont, Jiang Feng was imnsely grateful that not only had he brought a complete set of clean clothes, but he had also brought a relatively thin down jacket just in case. The clothes he had worn before diving into the trash bin had been tainted with an inexplicable odor and naturally couldn’t be worn any longer.

Jiang Feng had changed into a black, short and relatively thin down jacket, with a base layer and a high-neck cashre sweater underneath. Compared to his previous outfit, the thermal protection was certainly less effective.

Jiang Feng believed that as long as he felt warm enough, he could withstand the chilly winds outside with the righteousness he harbored within him and the clothes he wore.

“Thirsty? Would you like a drink of water?” Wu Minqi offered Jiang Feng a cup of water with lemon slices, the water having cooled from scalding hot to warm.

Jiang Feng took the cup and gulped down the water in one go.

“Mom, it’s getting late. Jiang Feng and I are going to have lunch now. What are you having for lunch today?” Wu Minqi asked.

“Don’t worry about ; I’ll grab sothing to eat downstairs. After lunch, take Jiang out for a walk. I’ve checked; the tickets for the Giant Panda Base can be booked online. If Jiang wants to go, have Qiqi take you in the afternoon. Just rember to co back to the restaurant for dinner,” Mrs. Wu started her routine of ushering people out.

“I got it, Mom. We’re leaving now,” Wu Minqi said, after tying her scarf in front of the mirror in the living room, she took Jiang Feng by the hand and headed out.

“Be careful on the road,” Mrs. Wu said as usual, sending them off at the door with a wave and a smile.

As they descended the stairs, Jiang Feng didn’t feel too cold; after all, the temperature in Beiping was much lower than in Shu. But once they stepped outside the building, a blast of cold air hit him, and imdiately, Jiang Feng was reminded of the tis in Magic City when the only defense against the cold was shivering.

Jiang Feng shivered.

Wu Minqi, keenly aware of Jiang Feng’s shiver, frowned and began to unravel the scarf from around her neck, intending to wrap it around him without discussion.

Jiang Feng knew Wu Minqi was sensitive to the cold. In Beiping, she would leave the house fully bundled up like a spy, so it was out of the question for him to take her scarf.

“Qiqi, you should keep it on. I could tell your throat wasn’t feeling great when you spoke. Don’t catch a cold the mont you take off the scarf and let the wind hit you,” Jiang Feng spoke and acted in refusal.

“I’m not cold; I’ve dressed warmly. It will take us over 20 minutes to get to Master Chen’s place. You’re wearing so little, and the wind is strong today; don’t end up catching a cold yourself,” Wu Minqi insisted.

Jiang Feng could only stand still and let Wu Minqi wrap the scarf around him.

Since Wu Minqi was shorter than Jiang Feng, and he hadn’t thought to lower his head, she struggled to tie the scarf, even standing on her tiptoes.

The result wasn’t pretty; it was the kind of tying that could strangle oneself.

“There,” Wu Minqi said after a careful examination of her first attempt at tying a scarf for soone. Although it wasn’t aesthetically pleasing, she believed it was certainly warm.

Overall, she was satisfied since the scarf wasn’t around her own neck.

“Let’s go,” Wu Minqi took Jiang Feng’s hand.

Wu Minqi’s hand was very cold, Jiang Feng’s hand was very warm.

One large, one small. One cold, one warm.

The instant Wu Minqi’s icy hand clasped his own, Jiang Feng felt sothing inside him explode. It might have been in his chest or possibly in his brain, erupting like fireworks, creating a splendor only he could see.

This was the second ti Jiang Feng experienced this kind of heart-racing sensation.

The previous ti was when Wu Minqi confessed to him during a competition.

“Qiqi,” Jiang Feng looked at Wu Minqi and lowered his head, “Close your eyes.”

Their lips t.

Even without a scarf, my girlfriend is really beautiful.

Jiang Feng thought silently.

Even though the scarf is ugly, my boyfriend is really cute.

Wu Minqi thought to herself.

Mrs. Wu stood by the window, sipping on lemon water while watching the pair downstairs who looked like a couple of high schoolers sneaking around in early romance. Since her daughter got a boyfriend and forgot to make her lemon water, Mrs. Wu had to be self-sufficient.

“These kids, they’ve been dating for so long, just kiss already. No need to sneak around under the building like it’s so teenage fling, tsk,” Mrs. Wu shook her head helplessly, moving away from the window to quietly sip her lemon water.

Or rather, the lemon water.

.

When Jiang Feng and Wu Minqi arrived at Master Chen’s house, it was already past half past twelve. Chen’s house hadn’t changed at all since Jiang Feng’s visit last year. Only Master Chen was at ho, and the living room and bedroom still housed nurous tables and chairs.

Master Chen still rembered Jiang Feng and was aware that Jiang Feng was now Wu Minqi’s boyfriend, so he was exceptionally enthusiastic upon seeing Jiang Feng.

“Qiqi’s boyfriend’s surnad Jiang, right? Seems like he’s Master Jiang’s great-nephew. I thought you two were quite suitable for each other when you brought him last year, and now it’s actually happened,” Master Chen said with a beaming smile, acting as an eager matchmaker.

“Hello, Master Chen,” Jiang Feng greeted sowhat reservedly.

“I’ve heard from Qiqi’s mom that you’ve found Master Jiang. Is he still in Shu? If he’s there, I’ll pay him a visit during New Year. I haven’t seen him for many years; it’s ti for a visit,” Master Chen greeted Jiang Feng and Wu Minqi warmly, inviting them to sit.

“Granduncle Weiming is spending New Year in Magic City this year, so he probably won’t be returning to Shu,” Jiang Feng explained.

“Master Chen, have you had your lunch yet?” Wu Minqi asked.

“Yes, of course, I have. The food’s all ready. If you two had been any later, it might have gone cold,” Master Chen said with a laugh.

“Thanks, Master Chen. Jiang Feng and I will serve the dishes.” Wu Minqi led Jiang Feng to the kitchen, where several steaming plates of freshly cooked food sat on the counter, contrary to Master Chen’s claim that they were almost cool.

Since it was only Jiang Feng and Wu Minqi dining, Master Chen hadn’t prepared too many dishes: three hot dishes and one appetizer. The hot dishes were fish-flavored eggplant, salt-crusted baiji (stead chicken), and spicy diced chicken, with the appetizer being spicy rabbit head.

The fish-flavored eggplant and salt-crusted baiji were clearly made to cater to Jiang Feng’s palate, while the spicy diced chicken definitely satisfied Wu Minqi’s preference for strong flavors. Buried under a mountain of red and dried chili peppers, the dish looked quite intimidating. Jiang Feng from a year ago would have probably trembled at the sight of it. Now, he still felt a bit intimidated by it, looking like even the nearby salt-crusted baiji might catch the spiciness from the spicy diced chicken.

Last year when Jiang Feng dined at Master Chen’s, he thought the chef’s seasoning for boiled fish was too heavy. Now, it seed that Master Chen had actually toned down the seasoning a bit for Jiang Feng’s sake.

Jiang Feng even had reason to suspect that when Wu Minqi went all out with the seasoning while cooking, the influence ca from Master Chen.

Jiang Feng and Wu Minqi brought the dishes to the table and each scooped a bowl of rice. Without much chatter, they started eating.

Both being chefs, they knew the best way to flatter a fellow chef was to just eat without talking. As long as they showed visible satisfaction and enjoynt, leaving clean plates was far more effective than a hundred hollow complints.

Jiang Feng didn’t dare to reach for the spicy diced chicken, knowing his tolerance had only improved slightly over the past half year. He could handle a bit of spice, but not to the extent of Wu Minqi, whose spicy diced chicken was on a whole different level.

Although he steered clear of the spicy diced chicken, Jiang Feng felt he could take on the challenge of the spicy rabbit head.

The spicy rabbit head might look horrific, but it tasted absolutely amazing!

Despite its strong spicy aroma, it was still incredibly fragrant.

Jiang Feng was torn; on one hand, he wanted to eat the spicy rabbit head on the plate, but on the other, he feared experiencing an unbearable pain like when he tried the boiled fish last year.

Nowadays, he was no longer the sa person who only ever dipped his food into a clear broth hot pot; he had started eating spicy hot pots, red oil spicy hot pots at that!

But the spicy rabbit head in front of him looked seriously hot.

The visible chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorns on its surface, along with its inherent color, clearly broadcasted that it was very spicy to Jiang Feng.

Not just spicy, but probably numb-inducingly so.

Jiang Feng reached out with his chopsticks, nearly touching the spicy rabbit head, then hesitated and diverted his chopsticks to pick up so minced pork with eggplant instead.

Jiang Feng reached out again with his chopsticks, and once more as they neared the rabbit head, he hesitated and, after a feigned attempt in midair, retracted them empty-handed.

Jiang Feng extended his chopsticks for the third ti.

Wu Minqi put down her chopsticks in resignation and looked at Jiang Feng, “Fengfeng, do you want to try the spicy rabbit head? It’s really tasty and not as spicy as you think.”

“Ah? Sure!” Jiang Feng eagerly took the bait and picked up a rabbit head.

Master Chen had gone upstairs to tend to his own affairs, so it was just Jiang Feng and Wu Minqi in the room. Wu Minqi had been debating whether to gnaw at the spicy rabbit head in front of Jiang Feng, as the act of eating rabbit heads is neither graceful nor particularly appealing – one could look almost cannibalistic if their mouth opened too wide.

But Wu Minqi figured that, on a day when her boyfriend was salvaged from the trash can, a bit of cannibalistic imagery couldn’t really make matters worse, so she grabbed a rabbit head too.

“When eating a rabbit head, it’s best to break it at the teeth to split it into two halves, which makes it easier to handle. There’s more at on the cheeks, Fengfeng, you can start by gnawing on the cheek at,” Wu Minqi instructed as she started her own rabbit head tutorial, demonstrating by digging in first.

Jiang Feng followed suit, splitting the head and biting into a piece of cheek at.

It was an entirely new at-eating experience.

Jiang Feng had eaten rabbit at plenty of tis, mostly wild rabbit. Sir used to live in the countryside for years where ga like wild rabbits was easy to co by, and even a simple stir-fry with chili could turn them into a delicious feast.

Although rabbit at often cos with small and nurous bones, making it a hassle to eat, its inherent flavor was enough to make one endure the inconvenience and savor it slowly.

The saying that rabbits are too adorable to be turned into unpalatable dishes is undoubtedly true.

To cook rabbit at poorly is unforgivable!

This was Jiang Feng’s first ti eating a rabbit head, and after one bite, he regretted not having encountered this delicacy sooner.

Enhanced by the rabbit’s natural flavors and Master Chen’s culinary skills, Jiang Feng relished the rabbit head so much that he couldn’t stop eating it.

“Hiss.” Jiang Feng hissed as he gnawed, the heat of the spice making him inhale sharply.

“Fengfeng, do you need so water?” Wu Minqi had finished her rabbit head, wiped her mouth, and once again looked like an elegant and beautiful lady. Jiang Feng was the only one left who looked like he was in a horror movie.

“No need, no need. The more you drink, the spicier it gets,” Jiang Feng assured her, speaking from experience in handling spiciness.

After finishing the rabbit head, Jiang Feng felt as if he had opened the door to a new world, reborn. The numbing sensation on his lips hadn’t faded, and the tingling on his taste buds signified the spiciness of the rabbit head he had just consud. Despite this, if soone offered him another rabbit head at that mont, he would have attacked it just as voraciously as the first.

“Fengfeng, should we go to the Giant Panda Base this afternoon? I’ll book the tickets now if we’re going,” Wu Minqi suggested.

“Yeah, let’s go. I didn’t see the pandas last ti I visited, so this will be a good opportunity,” Jiang Feng agreed.

Wu Minqi took out her phone and started booking the tickets.

“By the way, Fengfeng, are you sure you don’t want so water?” Wu Minqi asked again.

Jiang Feng waved his hand dismissively, “No need. Actually, the rabbit head wasn’t that spicy, it was just a bit numbing. It’ll pass soon.”

“But your lips seem to be swelling up.”

Jiang Feng: …
