The two of them, along with two ghosts, quickly found liora Torres following the directions given by the old ghost.
After all, having accepted offerings from her every year, the old ghost naturally knew roughly where liora lived.
Back then, after Jeffrey Torres died, his soul returned to his hotown, wandering there for years.
He never imagined that the sister he searched for so many years remained close to him all this ti.
Near the area where he had his car accident was an old residential area where liora lived.
She stayed in the Capital tropolitan after she gave up on suicide.
Initially, she worked odd jobs, and after saving so money, she set up a street food stall. After more than ten years, she successfully opened her own eatery.
Life was relatively peaceful.
Except, in recent tis, for the constant harassnt by her ex-husband’s family.
Back then, she disappeared for two years, and her in-laws couldn’t find her. Unwilling to let their son remain single, they declared her a missing person to file for divorce unilaterally.
Unexpectedly, a year ago, her ex-husband injured his leg back ho, unable to work, his new wife left him, leaving no one to care for him. He suddenly rembered the runaway ex-wife.
Taking advantage of the trend, he started a livestream account, titled 「Searching for My Wife for Fourteen Years」.
He hid the remarriage and divorce, creating an online persona of a devoted husband, broadcasting stories of him and his wife, claiming he’d spent fourteen years searching for her and that he broke his leg while looking for her.
While earning donations from sympathetic netizens, he also asked them to help find his wife.
With advanced internet and countless self-proclaid righteous netizens, they did indeed find liora.
Owning a business, liora was eventually identified by a well-aning passerby who inford the man.
Upon hearing she now ran a food shop, the man and his family were elated and headed to the Capital tropolitan to cling onto liora.
When Scarlett Jennings, the two of them, and two ghosts arrived, a commotion had just started at the eatery.
A middle-aged man’s raspy voice could be heard at the entrance,
"I’m telling you, sister-in-law, you can’t be so heartless. Now that you’ve made a life for yourself, you snub my brother, who’s suffered so much searching for you all these years! How can you be so cruel?"
Then another voice, weary and bitter, spoke,
"liora, I know I’m not in great shape now, and it makes sense you’d turn away, but I really want to go back to how we were. We’ve lost fourteen years; must we continue to waste ti?"
Whispers erupted in the crowd, followed by an angry female voice,
"Don’t call that! I am not your sister-in-law! I divorced your brother a decade ago. Just because you don’t say anything doesn’t an I don’t know."
The woman sneered coldly at the man in the wheelchair,
"And you! Don’t think you can fool everyone by playing the victim online! No one knows your family better than I do! If you want to make my life difficult, then don’t expect any peace for yourselves either!"
After years of hardships, the girl who once could easily be fooled had developed a sharp edge.
Not much, but enough to shield herself.
Seeing that liora wasn’t bending under pressure, even learning about his past actions back ho, David Atkins and his brother exchanged looks and decided to dig in their heels, with David’s brother cursing aggressively.
First accusing her of ingratitude, then of having another man.
Their mother, a woman in her seventies, sat at the shop’s entrance, crying and wailing about her daughter-in-law’s heartlessness, causing further whispers among onlookers.
liora’s chest heaved with anger, but deep inside, she felt a profound helplessness.
She thought her life had reset after her attempted suicide failed but didn’t anticipate it. After a couple of years of peace, they would hassle her again.
It seed fate wouldn’t let her go.
Staring at their family’s faces, liora couldn’t restrain herself from shrieking, "Get out! All of you, get out!"
At the entrance, Jeffrey Torres had already identified the frantic, shouting woman as his sister.
His sister, at most forty, yet looked like she was fifty.
All because of this family!
A cold glint flashed in Jeffrey’s eyes as he, without hesitation, flew into the shop.
Seeing liora about to give in, David Atkins and the others were secretly thrilled.
If she couldn’t hold on, then they would have won.
Just as they were thinking this, suddenly, they all felt an icy chill on the back of their necks, a ghostly wind that made their bones tremble.
David’s brother, Lucius Atkins, seed possessed and abruptly slapped himself.
The slap was loud and forceful, knocking him off balance, spinning him a full circle before he fell onto David.
David was dragged down with him, both crashing to the floor with pained cries.
The abrupt commotion stunned the old woman wailing on the ground.
"Lucius, what are you doing?"
Not just her, but liora and the onlookers were also astounded.
Lucius, about to speak, suddenly flickered his eyes, his vision altering.
Then, sensing sothing, he stiffly turned to look at his shoulder.
And then he saw the image he’d never forget in his life.
Behind him was a man, lying on him, yet he felt hardly any weight.
The man’s head rested on Lucius’s shoulder, his face a deathly pallor as their eyes t.
The man slowly grinned a sinister smile, and Lucius could even feel the cold breath faintly exhaled.
Lucius’s pupils shook violently, heart pounding, but he dared not faint. Then he heard the ghost’s chilling voice,
"Didn’t you hear her? Get out!"
With that, the ghost stood, forcing him to rise as well.
Lucius felt his body out of control again, raising a foot to kick David sprawling on the floor.
He ended up being kicked several ters away, crashing right into the elderly woman at the door.
"Brother! Mom!"
Lucius wailed but dared not move from his spot.
David and the elderly lady, startled by his madness, were about to curse him when they looked up, and both froze stiff.
There were inexplicably two more "people" in the shop, one lying on Lucius, smiling so sinisterly.
The other stood by liora’s side, exuding a chilling aura, glaring at them intently.
Their pallid faces seed like they were out of place with the rest, clearly... they were ghosts!
Two ghosts!
