Chapter 259: Chapter 259: I Find You Dirty

’If Nathaniel heard what she said, who knows what he’d do to her!’

’She must have been spooked by him today to be acting so strangely! This is beyond embarrassing!’

Zachary Preston gave her a knowing look and said, "Oh? Then you really should be careful."

When Vera saw the look in his eyes, she felt as if he knew something. ’I’ve made a complete fool of myself today!’ she thought.

Nathaniel Nathan hadn’t left yet. Even though Vera had closed the door and wasn’t speaking loudly, his hearing was exceptionally sharp. From outside, he heard every single word.

’A big bad wolf?’ A sly grin touched the corners of Nathaniel Nathan’s lips. ’One day, I’ll show her exactly what a big bad wolf is.’

Cara Preston was in her room, applying medicine to her injuries. Hearing the sounds outside, she quickly looked down. She saw the entire exchange between Vera and Nathaniel, and her hands immediately clenched into fists. ’Nathaniel is mine! How shameless can Vera be, trying to steal him from me!’

She desperately wanted to rush downstairs and call out to Nathaniel, but then she remembered the wound on her face. Going down now would be tantamount to ruining her image.

’I have to find a way to change things,’ she thought. ’Otherwise, Vera will use this time while my face is injured to get closer and closer to Nathaniel!’

But even though she considered herself exceptionally clever, she was at a complete loss when faced with the ice-cold Nathaniel and the unpredictable Vera.

Rona Langdon had been in the bathroom, so she missed what had just happened. She came out and went straight downstairs without washing her hands.

The moment she saw Vera, her immediate instinct was to start cursing. But then she saw Zachary and swallowed the foul words on the tip of her tongue before heading into the kitchen to start cooking.

Vera was speechless watching her go from the bathroom straight to the kitchen to cook. She offered a reminder, "Mom, did you wash your hands after using the bathroom?"

"What’s that supposed to mean? Are you saying I’m dirty?" Rona Langdon’s tone was hostile.

Zachary Preston shot her a glare. "Wash your hands before you cook!"

Rona grumbled in a self-pitying tone as she washed her hands, "My life is so hard! I work my fingers to the bone cooking for all of you, and in return, you all say I’m dirty!"

Vera watched Rona hit a new low every day. She couldn’t be bothered to engage, so she just slung her backpack over her shoulder and went upstairs.

As soon as she reached the top of the stairs, she saw Cara Preston standing at her bedroom door. From her stance, it was obvious she was waiting for her.

Ever since her complete falling-out with Cara, Vera couldn’t be bothered to play the part of doting sisters anymore. She ignored her, took out her key, and moved to unlock her door.

Cara blocked the doorway. Vera lifted her eyes, her gaze cold as she looked at her. "What is it?"

With tears welling in her eyes, Cara said, "Sister, I’m so sorry!"

’Here we go again.’ Vera was sick and tired of Cara’s shameless routine. Without a word, she raised her hand and slapped her across the face. Cara stared back, aghast. "Sister, I came to apologize! Why did you hit me?"

A smile curled on Vera’s lips. "Oops. Cara, I’m so sorry."

Cara froze for a second. Anger flared in her eyes, but because she had other plans in mind, she forced herself to suppress it.

Vera said slowly, "You seem to think that saying ’I’m sorry’ can erase every wrong you’ve committed. I find that perspective quite admirable, so I thought I’d learn from your example. Cara, you’re so kind, so gentle, so generous... you won’t get angry, right?"
