The expression on Cara Preston’s face froze. Vera Xavier added, "But I think I need to remind you of something. If ’I’m sorry’ could really undo all wrongs, then there’d be no need for police in this world. You could just commit a crime, say you’re sorry, and everything would be fine! After all, they’re just words. Anyone can say them, right?"

Cara Preston felt as if her all-conquering weapon had just been bluntly exposed by Vera. No matter how thick-skinned she was, she couldn’t keep her composure. A crack appeared on her pitiful, damsel-in-distress face, which then twisted with venom. "You’re the one who harmed me! I lowered myself to apologize to you, and this is how you treat me! You know I have a weak heart, and you’re still trying to provoke me! You..."

"Are you about to have a heart attack now?" Vera’s lips curved into a slight smile as she cut her off. "Go on, have one for me. I’ve never seen anyone have a heart attack before! I’m actually curious!"

Cara Preston felt like Vera Xavier really was going to give her a heart attack from pure rage!

Seeing her expression, Vera Xavier smiled. "If you’re not going to have that attack, please move aside. I need to go back to my room and study."

Cara Preston stood there, not moving. Vera said coolly, "Oh, right. There’s something I think you should know. Wesley Kane was beaten up. He was badly injured and confessed to something... something that involves you and Mom."

Cara Preston’s face instantly turned ugly. She knew perfectly well what she had incited Rona Langdon to do, so of course she knew that Rona had contacted Wesley Kane.

Vera Xavier raised an eyebrow and shoved her aside. "Cara Preston, I’ll settle the score between us eventually. Don’t be in such a hurry."

After saying her piece, she went straight back to her room and shut the door.

Cara Preston stumbled from the shove, looking disheveled and nearly falling over. Once Vera had decided to stop playing the part of a loving sister, she naturally saw no need to be polite to Cara.

Cara Preston stood in the hallway, panting. She suddenly understood. All this time, she had treated Vera Xavier like an idiot, but it turned out she was the one being played for a fool!

She had come to find Vera today intending to make her give up Nathaniel Nathan. But before she could even say a word, Vera had shut her down completely. And now she knew that no matter what she said to Vera in the future, it would never be believed.

The realization made Cara Preston absolutely livid!

The next day, on her way to school, Vera Xavier felt like someone was following her. She looked back but didn’t see anyone. It felt a little strange, but the rest of her trip to school was uneventful, so she didn’t think much of it.

At school that day, they were given their exam admission tickets and other related documents. Juliana Taylor went over the exam procedures in detail, repeatedly emphasizing that everyone should read the questions carefully, answer calmly, and double-check their work afterward. She told them not to be nervous.

Since the exam was the next day, cramming with practice problems was pointless, so the atmosphere in the class was actually a bit more relaxed than usual.

After school, Shane Caldwell asked Vera Xavier, "How confident are you about getting into Veridia University?"

Vera Xavier raised an eyebrow. "You should ask me that after I’ve taken the exam."

Shane Caldwell smiled. "Then I’ll see you at Veridia University."

Vera Xavier paused for a moment, but he had already slung his backpack over his shoulder and walked out of the classroom. She was completely baffled. Shaking her head, she didn’t give his words a second thought.

Shane Caldwell, however, clenched his fists. ’I have to do well on this exam. I have to get into the same university as her. I’ll make her see that I’m the one who’s right for her!’
