Chapter 841: Chapter 852: Physical Examination

Brett Jacobs turned on the light and looked at the clearly frightened woman, softly asking, "What’s your name?"

"I’m scared!"

"I’m here, what are you scared of?"

"Do you think this old house is haunted? Those horror novels I’ve read, those ghost stories all take place in such old houses."

The woman’s screams couldn’t stop ringing in Vivian Abbey’s ears, and she couldn’t convince herself it was an illusion.

Brett originally didn’t want to say anything, but if he didn’t, who knows how much this woman would overthink.

He explained, "It’s Miss Carpenter’s screams. Madam doesn’t like her, so Barnes and his men stuffed a bunch of rats into her room."

"Why?"

"Don’t ask about Madam’s affairs!"

Vivian had been by Sienna Johnson’s side for many years and knew she wasn’t a malicious person. Since Sienna made such a move against Melanie Carpenter, it must be because Melanie crossed her line.

Knowing it wasn’t a ghost, Vivian relaxed.

"She’s screaming like that; I can’t sleep. Cover my ears."

"Sleep if you want!"

The men of Abyanabad were notoriously macho.

Vivian, who had a good temper, didn’t get angry and said to Brett, "I’ll wander in the garden since I can’t sleep. You go ahead and rest."

Brett covered her ears with his large hands, "Is this okay now?"

Vivian felt warmth in her heart, staring shyly but happily at Brett’s rugged face.

She didn’t like pretty boys; she preferred men who gave her a sense of security.

"Why are you staring at me? Want a pounding?"

"Shall we sign a prenuptial agreement when we have time?" Thinking about the polygamous men of Abyanabad, Vivian still felt insecure.

"What’s that?"

"Simply, it’s an agreement about how to divide assets in case of a divorce..."

Before Vivian finished, Brett got angry, "We’re not even married, and you’re already thinking about divorce?"

"It’s just in case! Like buying insurance. No one hopes for an accident when buying insurance, right?"

Brett’s face darkened, his chest heaving, looking like he was about to get mad.

Vivian braced herself, "We must sign a prenuptial agreement, or I won’t get married!"

"Are all Orienta women this difficult?"

"What?"

"Had I known you were this troublesome, I wouldn’t have wanted you!"

Vivian didn’t expect him to say that. The warm embrace suddenly turned cold, and she whispered, "We aren’t married yet, you can still back out!"

"We’ve already slept together, how can I back out? Am I the irresponsible type?"

Vivian held back and said, "Even if married, we can still divorce. Besides, we are just dating right now."

"Once married, you can’t divorce! You’re my woman, and you will only be my woman in the future!" Brett said domineeringly.

"..."

"I won’t sign a prenuptial agreement with you!"

"..."

"Sleep!"

"Brett, I..."

"Not sleeping, huh? If not, let’s continue!"

Now, Vivian couldn’t sleep at all while Melanie Carpenter’s pitiful cries still echoed, each one more heart-wrenching than the last.

Yet, not a single person reached out to help her.

Vivian wondered how much wrong someone must have done for no one to be willing to help her out?

...

Last night, no one at Desmond Manor slept well because Melanie Carpenter screamed all night, her piercing high-pitched voice echoing in their ears like a demonic melody.

Even those with the best mental fortitude couldn’t sleep well.

The most miserable was Melanie Carpenter. Once she was released, the first thing she did was find Sienna Johnson to settle scores.

But she was stopped at the door by Barnes Smythe and Sabrina Conner.

"Miss Carpenter, Madam is still asleep. You can’t go in."

Sienna had anticipated that Melanie would come to settle scores the next day, so last night she had told the two to guard the door and not let Melanie disturb her sleep.

Sabrina sighed in her heart: She needed sleep just like they did.

"Get out of my way!"

Melanie Carpenter’s eyes were bloodshot, her face as hideous as possible, which reminded Sabrina of red-eyed rats in the dark.

The yawning Barnes intervened, "If I were you, I’d behave. Otherwise, tonight there might be snakes instead of rats."
