"What if I said I was your father?"
His creased eye brows slowly stretched, and his eyes widened.
"What? Father?" His heart felt warm.
"Yes son."
His cold eyes grew watery, "But.."
"There is no need to ask questions, I ca here for you."
Without hesitating, Oberon threw his arms around Alcide,, and embraced him warmly.
"Father!" He whispered.
They stayed like that for a while, before disengaging.
"Mother.. she is.."
"She had to co," he patted his hand.
"Why? I have lost you both," he shook his head.
"We are still with you, just that we are with you sowhere else."
"How I wish you both you grow with your grandchildren," he laughed nervously, "Dora has a son."
Alcide sighed, "Fate wanted sothing else, nevertheless, all is for the good."
"I feel this is so kind of punishnt. I committed so wrongs in the past, and they were horrible."
"What did you do?"
"Married Nyx, then divorced her all because I thought Selena was my fated mate, whereas she was not."
Alcide threw him a shocked look, "Divorced? Wait.. you had a child with Nyx or Selena?"
"Nyx."
"Why would you divorce her? Who knows what you did to her?!"
Oberon sighed, "It was a mistake on my part. I never gave her the chance to tell she had a child, and I treated her badly."
"Oh my goodness."
"Therefore, I am being punished for all those. I sincerely regret all those."
"Did you ask for forgiveness?"
"I did, hehe."
"But?"
"She did forgive , but I still feel I have not fully compensated her," he let out a frustrated sigh.
"Oberon listen to ."
He faced him, "Yes?"
"If you say Nyx has forgiven you, she bears no grudges against you. Why do you hurt yourself? You create problems that are not there."
"I just.."
"Listen to . Let go of the past, it is not a bad thing starting afresh. She did give you a chance, and you sure did well."
Oberon managed to smile at him, "You should let go of the past, stop holding onto what you did before, lest your whole self be affected because of this."
Oberon took in a deep breath.
"Your mother would be happy if she saw you let go, and start afresh too."
"You are right."
"Listen Oberon, you definitely will face those obstacles, and you will overco it. Do not let yourself be affected by any of them. Make sure to be a good ruler, a good mate, and a good father."
Oberon pald his face, "Thank you so much father. You just made my day, though I am still hurt my mother’s demise, and.." he raised his head, and saw that Alcide was gone.
"Father?" He looked around, and sighed, "He is gone," he hung his head.
His father’s words rang in his head, and a corner of his lips tugged up.
"Thank you father."
He stood up, and retuned back to the palace. Going straight to his study, he wrote letters, so he could send them to the Elders, telling them to announce to the mbers of the pack, that the queen mother was dead.
He was very emotional writing that letter, yet he held it in, there was no way he could break down yet, he had to be strong for the rest of them.
Sealing them, he sent ssengers to deliver them to the rest of the pack.
But it seed the news were not finished yet. Right after he sent letters to the elders, another ssenger ca into his study.
He bowed before him, and delivered the news, "Your Majesty, I bring very disheartening news."
Oberon motioned him to go on, "Yes?"
"Elder Detrius is dead."
The quill in his hands fell, he gawked, "What? Dead?"
"Yes your highness."
"What happened to him?"
"He ended his phase last night, in the woods. So teenage ogas had gone hunting in the woods, and found him laying dead there. They found him this afternoon."
Oberon held his head, feeling too weak to respond. The ssenger still stood there, his head slightly bowed.
"You can leave. Thank you very much," he waved his hand, dismissing him firmly.
He held his head in distress, "Two bad news in a day?" He clenched his fists, "What am I supposed to do with that?"
"Detrius, you too?" He banged his hands on the table, "Do you all want to end phases all of a sudden?"
He took in a deep breath, "Not Detrius too. I can not lose any of you, I am not supposed to lose any of you right now," he threw his head backwards, his heart racing.
He stood up, and headed to his Chambers. He wanted to cool off, all this was too much to take in at once.
When he got there, he t Nyx packing. He creased his brows, and opened his mouth to say sothing.
Nyx finished what she was doing, and turned on her heels. She stopped when she saw Oberon at the door.
"Wh- where are you going?"
"I am sorry. I do not think I can stay with you any longer. It would be best if I left."
That was the last straw that broke the cal’s back. Her words shattered his heart.
"Why?"
"I am sorry. I just do not think I should be here..it would be better if I left."
"Please do not go. I need you more than ever."
She dropped her bags, and walked over to et him. She wrapped her hands around him, and embraced him warmly.
"It is ti we go our separate ways," her eyes watered, as she disengaged from the hug.
"What? Separate ways? What have I done again?"
She shook her head, "You did nothing, I must go, I am doing it for the good of you, and this pack."
"By leaving ? This will do more harm than good!"
She cupped his face in her hands, "Trust when I say it is for your own good. I must leave, and please do not try to stop ," she reached for her bag, and walked past him.
"Why are you doing this to ? Have I not done enough?"
"You have, but I am doing more."
He was surprised, "What?"
"Goodbye Oberon," tears stread down her cheeks, and she inhaled sharply.
"Nyx please.."
"I am taking my son along with ," she headed towards the door.
"Why are you doing this?"
"I just have to protect you!"
"What exactly are you protecting from?!" He yelled at her.
She paused, and turned to face him, "Really?"
He imdiately regretted his words, "Nyx.. I did not an it that way. Please do not go!" He went after her.
"Goodbye!"
