Xavier POV
"Your children’s life? Seriously Selene... they’re also my children and I love them just the way you love them too and maybe even more. We agreed that we’ll take care of the girls equally and now you want to threaten out of spending ti with them, that’s not fair Selene. The girls will stay and will leave as agreed,".
"You don’t get a say in that, Xavier Steele," she said firmly "I carried and birthed them. Besides you didn’t want to have anything to do with or them from the get go. If they’re not on the next flight back to Moon Whisper, I’m going to...".
"Ask Noah to send soldiers after or strip of my position as an Alpha?" I completed for her with an amused laugh. "I didn’t know you love my uncle so much, Selene and why aren’t you here by the way? Did he ask you not to co?" I paused for a second and continued "I’m going to take your silence as yes. Anyways, we’ll not argue about this anymore. The girls are fine and they’ll be back with you as agreed. I heard you’re busy these days, you should go back to what you’re doing, okay?"
My lips trembled with anger and relief and I wished at this mont I could be at Moon Whisper but I couldn’t. I dare not test Noah especially now that he was looking for the slightest of opportunities to deal with .
"Where is Vina? I want to speak with her?" she demanded.
"She’s asleep," I said quietly "But we will call you later today and then you’ll talk with the girls. By the way, your friend, Kragen wars here also. You can ask him about the welfare of the girls if you think I’m lying. I was busy... and we went camping sort of and forgot to co with the phones. That’s why you’ve not been able to reach us,".
"You went camping with your Beta and your Gamma?" she scoffed "Who do you think you’re talking to, Xavier? I am not a baby and I more than anyone knows when sothing is off,".
"Listen, Selene..." I didn’t allow her to speak "I know you have it easy and all but right now I need to really end the call because there’s so much to do. As you know, our new Coalition leader has quite a lot of ideas and since he’s best friend with our King, I don’t want to piss him off. Give my regards to the King also and tell him that he shouldn’t bother fulfilling his own part of the bargain, afterall, he wields so much power and no one would dare question him,".
"Whatever agreent you had with Noah, it’s you and his problem and not mine. But...".
"Talk to you, Selene..." I dropped the call before she could say another word. When the call ended, I turned and saw, Kragen staring at with disdain on his face. "What?" I shrugged "I had to use soone and she’ll believe anything you tell her right?"
"You didn’t have to drag into this. I cannot lie to her. If she asks what truly happened, I’ll tell the truth," Kragen said.
"Suit yourself, Kragen," I said with a patient smile "But I hope you’d be ready to bear the consequences that will follow when she learns of what happened to Vina. She’s safe and fine now, can we stop going back and forth? It’s so annoying,".
"Take to the woman who did this," Kragen held back when I tried to pass. His actions startled . Our gazes t and he repeated "I need to see the woman that did that to Vina,".
"It’s none of your business, Kragen," I replied peeling off his hand from my sleeve "And who says it’s a woman? Anyways, I’m very grateful for everything you’ve done for and for helping with my daughter. I did ask you if you wanted any kind of renuration but you’re yet to give a positive feedback and that’s fine. Anyways, we’ll take it from here, okay?"
"I am not asking your permission, Xavier," Kragen said again "And I can see you’re still as stubborn as before right? You know, I don’t have a lot of regrets but I should have let you died that day. To think Selene was married to you for seven years... the moon goddess really did her a number. You’re fucking stupid. How can you still be communicating with the woman that made you lose your wife in the first place?"
My eyes widened with surprise at what he said. So, Selene has been talking to people about . "It’s none of your business. The only reason I am still putting up with you is because of how you helped Vina but don’t let ask them to throw you out of the pack house,".
"Maybe you shouldn’t say that," Lucius chirped in reaching out for my hand "Please be courteous to him,".
"Courteous to him?" I scoffed, turning to glare at Lucius "You never support in anything I am doing. I can’t believe that you’re choosing a stranger over . What has he got on you?"
"He saved your life, Xavier..." Lucius sighed "And can we not do this?" Turning to Kragen, he said pleasantly "We locked her up in one of our holding cells, do you want to take you to her now or later?"
"Now, please!" Kragen replied.
"Okay then, please co this way," Lucius motioned to him to follow him. After one last malicious look, Kragen took his gaze off and went with Lucius.
When they left, I exhaled with relief. There was sothing odd about the way Kragen behaved and no matter how much I try to make sense of it, so things were not just adding up. There was this ominious aura around him and it felt like I knew him from sowhere.
I moved from the living room towards the girls room and stopped at the door when I saw Maeve sitting beside Vina, stroking her forehead and crooning a soft tune. As soon as she noticed my presence, she placed her index finger on her lips, shushing and continued to crone sweetly at Vina. After a few minutes, she stopped and slowly stood up, backing out of the room.
We closed the door gently, making sure not to wake her then walked so distance away from her room before finally speaking. "What did mummy want to do?" I asked her.
"Nothing! She was just worried that we weren’t taking our calls and asked to give you the phone imdiately but she didn’t ask a lot of questions but from the sound of her voice, I could tell she was really pissed off," Maeve said.
"Yeah," I sighed "And that’s why I want to ask you for a tiny favour?"
"What is it dad?" she looked up at expectantly.
"Can you not tell mummy about what happened with Vina? Not only will it make her worry but she’ll stay mad at for a long ti. She’s already angry that we didn’t take her calls. Do you understand?"
"Are you asking to lie?" her brows curved with confusion "I don’t think that’s a good thing. We shouldn’t lie to our parents and mummy always says that when we do bad things and we tell her the truth, she’ll be less angry with us and not punish us,".
"Not !" I smirked "Your mom will be very angry with and you don’t need to lie, you just need to make excuses, avoid the question or change the topic if she asks you. I’ll tell her about everything when she’s more calm and better focused but for now, please darling, I need you to co through for ,".
"Fine!" Maeve sighed "How long will it take? I need to know so I know the number of excuses to give her and not run out of anyone,".
"A few days," I placed a light kiss on her nose "Thank you so much darling and this mummy’s friend, Kragen... does he co often to visit you people? You seem to like him so much,".
"Well, he’s likeable," Maeve shrugged "And he always plays with us. He used to co around when we were still in the forest. He’d help mummy hold us and sotis, it’ll be uncle Kurtis both of them but they never ca at the sa ti, so...".
The hairs at the back of my neck pricked at Maeve’s words. "Don’t scare darling," I chuckled "You’re only 4, how would you know these things? I’m sure you were still a baby when you were in the forest with mummy,".
"Yeah," she nodded "But my wolf told everything. Her na is Star and she’s my new best friend. She says, for my fifth birthday that I’ll be able to transform fully into her for longer periods. I can’t wait,".
"Yeah..." I nodded in agreent staring at my daughter. I knew they had their wolves from birth and then that one ti we went for a run, they could change into their wolves but it was easy to spot that theirs were still baby wolves and still haven’t reach full lycanthropy but a 4-year-old reaching full Lycanthropy at 5? Should I be worried?
