Selene POV
I gave a curt bow to Noah and nodded to Kurtis before I turned to leave his office.
There was a lot of preparations to be made and I knew that the only way I could get it done was to prepare the girls. If I could devise a way to protect them while they try to turn the tide, that was exactly what I was going to do. But I was barely a few ters away from Kurtis’s office when Noah reached for my hand and jerked back to him so that I fell on his chest. His hands rounded my shoulders easily as he pulled close to him.
Struggling, I pushed him away from him, straightening my clothes and glaring at the maids that passed at that mont giggling. "What is it, Noah? Why are you stopping ?" I queried.
"Because it feels like we’re not even married anymore," he blurted out, pain lacing his words "You don’t make feel like I have a mate or even a wife. I know we’ve been busy these days but the least you could do is to try to check up on or better still just... I don’t know," he trailed off running a hand through his hair "Selene what’s happening to us? Is this what we fought for? We defiled the odds and made lots of enemies only to beco distant? Honestly, I don’t understand?"
I blinked at him, montarily taken aback by his outburst. Since the saga of my relationship with Kurtis and what happened a few minutes ago, naturally, I thought we would go back to being cool like how we used to be after every fight. I wasn’t expecting he would be talking to .
"Noah... our relationship seems fine to ," I finally responded "And we’re not distant. We’ve just been very busy,".
"What!" Noah’s eyes widened with shock "No! No, of course not. Are you going to stand there and pretend that this is working?" he held up his hands placatingly. "Our marriage is turning worse every single day and I apologize for a few monts ago and what I said about Xavier. I allowed my emotions to get the best of but in reality, I just want my wife’s attention,".
"It’s fine," I shrugged "I’ve decided to make peace with the fact that Xavier will keep popping up in our conversations for the longest ti. Although, I’ve tried to explain to you that there’s no way he can stay away from my life because he’s the father of my girls but it keeps falling on deaf ears and now, you’re onto Kurtis. What next would you accuse of? That I am unfaithful?"
"C’mon Selene. I didn’t an that at all. Honestly, I just wanted to confirm things with you. I wasn’t accusing you of anything., I’m sorry. It’s just that my emotions are just... all over the place lately because I’m lacking your attention,". He stepped closer reaching out to grasp my arms as his eyes shone at beseechingly. "Please Selene, I want us to fix this. Our marriage is dying,".
I stiffened at his touch but didn’t pull away. Knowing who he is, he would make an issue out of it. "We already had this conversation a few days ago," I reminded him evenly. "We even agreed to see a therapist so we could address the issues between us. Until we follow through on that, nothing is going to change, Noah,".
Before Noah could respond, the sound of footsteps and muted giggles reached our ears. We both turned to see a couple of servants passing by eyeing us with curiosity. Sighing, Noah grabbed my hand and before I could protest, we were marching down the hallway that led to his room. Shutting the door firmly behind us, he pinned to the wall and hovered over .
"Why won’t you let make love to you anymore, Selene? I want you, my soul burns for you... please," without preamble, he leaned in and tried to claim my lips.
I turned my head aside, placing a restraining hand on his chest. "Noah, stop this," I said with a hint of coldness entering my tone "Getting intimate isn’t going to magically fix our problems. Besides, there’s too much going on, how can you even think of being intimate? Are you not worried that we might go into a war or sothing of that sort a few hours from now?"
"But it’s a start!" he insisted, frustration creeping into his voice "There’s nothing like a good, sweet, sex to help set things right. By continuously depriving of it, tells so much on how far apart we’ve drifted,".
I exhaled deeply, and extricated myself from his grasp and reached for the doorknob "I have things to attend to. And you should go and see that things are being done too. Whatever happens today will determine our future, Noah. Don’t worry, let’s make it past this night and we’ll discuss more it also you should seriously make that appointnt as we agreed,".
As I tried to turn the door, his voice reached again "Brooke ca to ," he said causing to stop montarily as I turned to face him with an arched brow. "She was dressed in a way that any man’s blood would boil. Mine did for a minute and I only held on because I love you. I am not trying to throw it at your face, Selene but you should be able to satisfy these basic needs for . I can’t keep going around, always thinking about sex. Do you know how easy it’ll be for to fall into temptations if...".
"Then don’t stop yourself," I interrupted with a shrug "Or do you want to validate your upcoming indiscretions? Go ahead and cheat if that will gratify and as for the bedroom matter between us, it’ll happen when I am less buys and maybe you do sothing worth sprawling myself across the bed,".
"What are you talking about? You’re my wife... I don’t need to do anything for you before you give access to your body,".
"True," she nodded "But may I remind you that a happy wife is a happy marriage. So far, everything I’ve gotten from you has always been difficult to get. Even the Office of the Luna you managed to approve would be shut down as soon as we solve these ongoing issues. I am not complaining of course but I’ll maintain the sa energy you give . Now! As I pulled open the door, I found Faustina – Maeve’s nanny waiting for in the hallway. As soon as I saw her, I instantly beca alard. Rushing towards her I asked, "Did sothing happen to the girls?" I asked.
"Nothing Your Majesty," she shook her head "Sorry for showing up like this unannounced I just wanted to deliver the ssage to you as quickly as possible,".
"A ssage? What ssage?"
She looked around before whispering to "It’s about joining that union we took you to the other day. Our leader said I should inform you to co around by tomorrow at that sa eting spot and ti. They want to tell you the final judgnt,".
My expression remained impassive as I nodded in acknowledgent. This was the wrong timing for since I had a lot on my plate but I was going to take it anyway. What could I do? "Alright, I will be there,".
Faustina nodded before scurrying away. Deciding this was the best ti to go to Kurtis, I started back towards his office. Just a few ters from his office, I picked up Xavier’s scent. Following it, I discovered he was actually in the office.
It was perfect for so I would just tell him everything at once but as I made to open the door, Xavier’s voice floated to .
"The only way for everything to work out as planned is to make sure that Selene stays within my sights. I will not put her life in danger or the girls because they can do certain things. It’s risky and how can we be sure that it’ll work out eventually? C’mon, Kurtis... whether or not the girls or Selene can do it... I am not going to risk their lives like that unless there’s a way you can be 100% sure that it’ll work,".
"I understand your daughters but you shouldn’t worry so much about Selene. She’s married and is no longer your responsibility,".
"I told you, Kurtis... that Selene belongs to . Whether or not she’s married to my uncle, I do not care and I’m going to get her back because she’s the only one ant for .
