Chapter 348: Chapter 347: Gathering from All Sides

Upon hearing this, Ye Fan smiled faintly. "I’m not here for the Bengyu. My main purpose is to find an opportunity for a breakthrough."

"Could Lord King be preparing to break through to the Supre Level?" Leng Dao looked at Ye Fan in shock. After all, Ye Fan was already an Emperor-level Master who dominated his own territory. This search for a breakthrough was clearly aid at the Supre Level.

This rate of progress terrified him. He himself was still striving to break through to the Emperor Level, a goal that seed distant and illusory. A man so much younger than him was already preparing to break through to the Supre Level. Such strength was truly frightening. He finally understood why Ye Fan was such a monster. Worthy of the title King of Heaven, feared across the entire world.

Ye Fan didn’t deny it, rely nodding.

Leng Dao’s gaze, now fixed on Ye Fan, was filled with reverence. He then congratulated him, "In that case, Lord King, I wish you success in breaking through to the Supre Level on this venture!"

"Thank you," Ye Fan said. "By the way, what exactly is the Bengyu? Why has it attracted so many experts to fight over it?" He was very curious why it was so tempting.

Leng Dao explained, "Lord King, you may not know this, but the Bengyu has a grand origin."

"Oh?" Ye Fan looked at him curiously.

Leng Dao continued, "Legend has it that a Buddhist monk from the Divine Land returned from Tianzhu after mastering Mahayana Buddhism. However, en route, he was bewitched by a heretical path and beca an Evil Buddha. From then on, he began to wantonly slaughter innocents throughout Shen Zhou until he was slain by the hidden clans of the Divine Land, his body and soul utterly destroyed.

"However, after the Evil Monk’s death, his bones congealed into holy relics. Due to his excessive slaughter, those relics transford into the unique Killing Shariputra, which is also known as the Bengyu! And this very Bengyu is buried here, in this border desert!"

After Leng Dao’s explanation, Ye Fan realized the Bengyu had a truly significant origin. It was no simple matter. He then asked, "The competition for the Bengyu will be intense this ti, with so many people showing up. Are the Yanhuang Special Forces also planning to compete for it?"

Leng Dao said respectfully, "Lord King, as long as the Bengyu doesn’t fall into the hands of outsiders, we will withdraw from the competition."

His aning was clear: if the Bengyu fell into Ye Fan’s hands, they wouldn’t have the ability to compete for it even if they wanted to.

"I see," Ye Fan said. "Don’t worry. I have no interest in the Bengyu; after all, it’s the artifact of a failure. However, I can lend you a hand."

Since the Yanhuang Special Forces were also soldiers of the Divine Land, Ye Fan had no intention of abandoning them.

Leng Dao quickly replied, "Thank you, Lord King! Rest assured, after we secure the Bengyu, we can lend it to you to study for three days.

"After three days, or whenever we need to return and report, you can simply give it back to us."

He hadn’t expected Ye Fan to offer his help. The King of Heaven was rumored to be a proud man, yet he had been surprisingly forthright this ti.

It seed the rumors about a King of Heaven who looked down on everyone were false. The man before him was a King of Heaven who valued loyalty and righteousness.

The two began discussing their strategy. The full moon was approaching, and according to Leng Dao, the Bengyu would likely erge that very night, so they needed a plan to seize it.

Although Ye Fan was the strongest among the contestants he had seen so far, even the strongest couldn’t afford to be careless.

He knew all too well how a simple oversight could lead to disaster.

Having settled on a plan, they decided to make their move. They were still so distance from the center of the desert.

As night fell, Ye Fan commanded, "Let’s go."

Leng Dao and his team of more than ten people set out with Ye Fan. With at least a few hours until the Bengyu was expected to erge, they were heading out early to set up an ambush. A confrontation was inevitable tonight. Their goal wasn’t to ambush every enemy but to strike the final victors. They intended to be the oriole that preys on the mantis stalking the cicada—the final winners!

When they arrived at the center, it was unnervingly tranquil. While the surrounding Gobi raged, this place was strangely calm. Not a breath of wind could be heard, much less any swirling sand. They buried themselves in the dunes, lying in wait.

The moonlight was brilliant, with the moon nearing its fullest state. A faint aura of slaughter began to emanate throughout the desert. The killing intent of that Evil Monk must have been imnse, for it had filled the Bengyu with a seemingly endless stench of blood.

Just as Ye Fan was marveling at this, his Yuanhong Sword began to tremble, seemingly eager to escape its sheath. It appeared to relish the aura radiating from the Bengyu. Thankfully, Ye Fan was able to suppress it; otherwise, the Yuanhong might have shot out on its own.

Around ten o’clock that evening, a group of people arrived. Already well hidden, Ye Fan and Leng Dao observed them in silence.

Ye Fan frowned slightly when he saw the group. It was Bai Zhii and the other mbers of the Zhenwu Sect.

"The wind is raging outside, but it’s strangely calm here," she said. "It seems the Bengyu is about to erge!"

"Senior Sister, what should we do now?" her junior brother asked.

"We lie in wait!" Bai Zhii replied.

But no sooner had she spoken than another group arrived.

Bai Zhii turned and saw a group of monks. Ye Fan was shocked, because one among them, a Buddhist monk, had actually reached the Emperor Level. Although he wasn’t at the Emperor-level Peak, he was still a formidable master.

The leading ascetic monk addressed Bai Zhii. "Benefactor, this humble monk is Hong Zhi. The Bengyu is an artifact of our Buddhist Sect’s ancestors. I must ask you to withdraw."

But Bai Zhii was not swayed. "Who says it belongs to your ancestors?" she retorted. "Besides, even if it is a relic of the Buddhist Sect, there are countless temples. How can you prove it belongs to yours?"

Hong Zhi said nothing. He and his followers simply sat down on the spot and began reciting scriptures to guide the souls of the dead, acting as if the world’s affairs had nothing to do with them.

That might have been the end of it, but then another group arrived. Indeed, the night was attracting many factions. This new group was from the Dongzheng Court, and it was led by a King-level master. In terms of numbers, their contingent was far larger than the one Ye Fan had previously encountered, suggesting the Dongzheng Court had a backup plan.

"Everyone, get lost!" one of the n from the Dongzheng Court shouted arrogantly, confident in their superior numbers.

But no one listened. Just as the factions were about to clash, Hong Zhi spoke again. "You all wish to compete for the Bengyu. If that’s the case, then let it go to the most virtuous among you."

"Very well, old baldy!" the King-level leader of the Dongzheng Court laughed wildly. Since Hong Zhi, an Emperor-level Master, had concealed his aura, the leader completely failed to recognize his true strength. Otherwise, he certainly wouldn’t be laughing.

Hong Zhi’s brow furrowed for a mont, but he said nothing and made no move. The ti was not yet right.

Hiding in the shadows, Leng Dao whispered to Ye Fan, "Lord King, it looks like we’re in for a lively night."

Ye Fan replied with a faint smile, "Indeed. We’re in for a good show."
