“What if I beco your enemy?” Aike asked with a smile.
“If that’s what you choose,” Winters took a deep breath and said calmly, “I will accept it.”
Aike laughed heartily and punched Winters in the chest, “I won’t wish you victory, just hope you return safely.”
Xial led over the black horse Winters was accustod to riding. Winters took the reins and mounted the horse, “Certainly.”
With that, he nodded, gently spurred the horse, and headed towards the gate of the officers’ lodging quarter.
As he left the gate, he looked back and saw Anna’s figure in the second-floor window of his cozy little house.
Winters couldn’t bring himself to say goodbye. He gazed at Anna, silently telling his beloved, “Wait for my return.”
He didn’t know if Anna understood what he was conveying, and with a turn, he rode away.
Anna stood by the window for a long ti. After a while, she watched as Winters’ silhouette disappeared into the night, and whispered tearfully:
“Alright.”

The sound of galloping hooves echoed like hailstones on the streets of Revodan, drawing the residents to their windows to watch.
Winters led a small squad of guards and rode straight out of the city onto the highway.
Beside him, a true army was marching through the night.
Lances moved like a forest, gently swaying in the fields on either side of the road; draft horses pulled cannons and supplies down the middle of the highway.
Realizing it was the Blood Wolf galloping past, the soldiers cheered and saluted.
Besides Colonel Seber, there were several “local elders” seeing him off at the intersection: Old Priskin the tobacco rchant, Smith the municipal committee mber, a representative of the manor owner who had moved to Revodan… and Father Kaman.
“You really don’t need my protection.” Father Kaman asked, embarrassed yet sowhat worried, “This ti you’re facing an army that also has mages.”
“Don’t worry about my safety. I have tens of thousands protecting ,” Winters said seriously, “Compared to that, I’m more worried about Anna. Please do the favor of protecting her.”
“Rest assured.” Father Kaman raised his chin, “I’ll protect Miss Navarre as if she were my family.”
“Thank you, with you there, I can be at ease.” Winters sincerely thanked him, and seeing Kaman’s still worried face, couldn’t help but smile, “Don’t worry about , I have that one protecting .”
With that, he pointed ahead.
Kaman followed Winters’ gesture: on an unremarkable gray warhorse, wearing ordinary cavalry attire, the lethargic-looking Colonel Moritz van Nassau yawned.
Kaman couldn’t help but laugh too. He nodded, “Then it’s settled.”
Winters still wanted to say a few more words, but Colonel Seber, already at the brink of losing his patience, shouted from afar, “Damn it! Is this going to end?! Colonel Bode, Colonel Gaisa, and Colonel Skul are getting impatient! Are you making three colonels wait for a captain?!”
Winters nodded to Kaman, “See you another day, Father Kaman.”
“May the Lord bless you.” Kaman made a sign of blessing, “Nonbeliever Montaigne.”
Winters urged his horse to quickly reach Colonel Seber’s side.
“Why are you just arriving?” Colonel Seber tugged on the reins, speaking with much impatience, “Captain Mason and Captain Cherini have already set off.”
“Alright,” Winters nodded.
Colonel Seber suddenly squinted his eyes, his nostrils slightly twitching as he tried to sniff the air, “What’s that sll?”
With a hint of provocation, Winters loudly replied, “Stewed beef!”
“Not bad!” Seber not only wasn’t angry, but he also nodded, laughed heartily, and said, “Perfect as a last al before falling in battle! Just a pity there’s no stirrup wine to complete it!”
“I’ll let you taste Anna’s cooking when I return.”
“It’s a deal.”
“It’s a deal.” Winters glanced back at Revodan, but only the vast night t his gaze. He no longer hesitated, waved his hand, “Let’s go!”
The army of steel and iron rushed towards the unknown ahead.
