Chapter 1165: Chapter 15: Banquet (Part 2)_3
Aike’s eyebrows unconsciously raised.
“So.” Major Muir cleared his throat and smiled as he asked, “What do you want to say?”
Winters crossed his arms and smiled as he replied, “So Iron Peak County has beco very important, so I am important.”
The candles on the table flickered collectively.
“If I lean toward the Grand Council, Colonel Gaisa would not dare take action,” Winters said calmly. “If I lean toward White Mountain, Thunder Group, and Bian River, then the situation would be reversed.”
Major Muir spread his hands slightly: “That’s why we are willing to offer you a high price.”
Winters stood up, looking down at Major Muir and Major Nevitz, and said coldly: “No, I don’t think you are truly making an offer. For you, even if I don’t lean toward any side, you can still achieve your goals—and that’s why you stayed in Revodan. So as soon as the battle in Mirror Lake County has a clear winner, you will leave without hesitation.”
“No, no, no.” Major Muir stood up as well and politely responded, “The Grand Council sincerely wants to welco you back into the arms of the Republic.”
Major Muir paused for a mont, and his flawless mask finally cracked. With a threatening tone, he confronted, “But you were right about one thing; this is your last chance. Our rcy and patience are limited. Once the battle in Mirror Lake County has a winner, your door of opportunity will forever close!”
Winters studied each subtle expression on Major Muir’s face and asked with a smile, “I’m curious, why are you so certain—you can win?”
Major Muir was first puzzled, and then his pupils dilated, his eyes widened. Aike was second to notice the anomaly, and lastly, it was Major Nevitz.
Winters slamd his fist on the table and shouted in anger: “Military Police!”
As soon as the words fell, Xial and Heinrich led a squad of ard-to-the-teeth military police rushing into the dining room.
“Arrest them all.” Winters’ voice was as cold as ice.
Xial and Heinrich imdiately stepped forward, tying up and seizing Major Muir, Major Nevitz, and Lieutenant Axel.
“I am an envoy! An envoy!” Major Muir struggled desperately as he angrily questioned, “Montaigne! You first greeted with salt and bread! And now you treat like a prisoner?”
“Behave!” Xial kicked Muir’s knee, forcing him to kneel on the ground.
“I protect envoys.” Winters walked up to Major Muir, patting the major’s handso face: “But I don’t protect spies.”
Aike looked puzzled at the two majors: Major Nevitz lowered his head, and Major Muir fell silent.
“I never told you about Maplestone City deploying troops, nor did I provide you with ‘The Communique.’ According to our agreent, you would not voluntarily contact anyone outside designated hosts. But it seems you know all about recent events outside during this ti.” Winters asked sternly: “So, who told you?”
Major Muir snorted coldly, not saying a word.
Winters asked kindly, “Was it them?”
Xial, understanding, dragged Major Muir to the window, opening it suddenly.
Outside in the backyard of the officer’s quarters, over twenty people with disheveled appearances, faces ashen, and securely bound gazed directly at Major Muir.
Judging by their posture and attire, these twenty should belong to privileged classes. However, at this mont, their eyes were filled with fear, regret, and despair, nowhere to be found was their previous commanding attitude.
Winters walked out of the dining room, approaching the landowners, rchants, and Forge Masters who provided information and gathered intelligence for Major Muir and Major Nevitz.
“I gave you chances, I gave you three chances.” Winters’ fingers unconsciously clenched and then relaxed, and he calmly asked: “Do you think I don’t dare kill? Or do you think I don’t want to kill?”
The arrested n and won begged for rcy, but with their mouths stuffed, all they could produce were continuous whimpering noises. So sobbed uncontrollably, while others were scared into incontinence.
Winters took a deep breath, restraining the urge to turn the ticulously tended garden by Anna into a river of blood, and coldly ordered: “Take them away.”
Then he looked at the silent Major Muir, the terrified Major Nevitz, and the bewildered Aike: “Take them away too.”
…
Monts later.
“Didn’t hurt you, did it?” Winters asked Aike apologetically, “Sorry for not discussing it with you beforehand.”
“If you had discussed it with beforehand, I surely would have ssed up the act.” Aike carefully stretched his wrist while helping Winters fasten his weapon belt, “But your little follower really didn’t hold back… Still, I don’t quite understand why you staged such a play.”
“Not a follower, but a friend’s younger brother… Not sure how he’s doing now.” Winters raised his hand high so Aike could help him fasten the sword to the weapon belt, “If Major Muir and Major Nevitz saw that you and I are close, you would truly beco a ‘traitor’.”
“Wouldn’t that be just what you want?” Aike joked, “So I can’t turn back, and have to follow you as a rebel?”
Winters shook his belt, confirming that the belt and sword were securely fastened. He turned around and sincerely said to Aike, “No, I wouldn’t use such despicable tactics on you. If you beco my comrade in arms, I hope it is by choice.”
