"Why bother?" Ding Jinshi gently shook his head. "It’s not worth holding onto soone who will never love you."

"It’s not for you to say whether it’s worth it!" Ding Long was slightly angry. "I say I won’t let go, and I never will, even if it kills ! Rather than let go and watch you go to Lan Li, to suffer the pain Lan Li gives you, I would rather have you by my side and endure the pain I give you! If there’s no love, then so be it. After all, when I married you, I already knew you wouldn’t love . So let’s just keep things as they are, I won’t be greedy anymore."

Only recently did Ding Long realize how childish his actions had been over the past month, trying to prove if he held even a small part of importance in her heart, tornting himself, as well as her and their daughter.

This is probably the most childish and pointless thing he’s ever done in his life.

When Aunt Xi returned, Ding Long and Ding Jinshi were no longer in the living room. On the floor was the divorce agreent stepped on by Ding Long, everything else was as she had left it, and Aunt Xi breathed a sigh of relief; at least the mister and madam hadn’t fought.

Upstairs, Ding Long was soothing his awakened daughter. Facing her accusations, Ding Long kept apologizing, continuously swearing there was no new brother, nor a new mom, that he wouldn’t abandon Ding Jinshi and Ding Baobei.

After a long while, Ding Long finally saw his daughter stop crying. He then told her he bought a cake, and Ding Baobei, being headstrong, huffed and said she would share it with mom, not dad. Ding Long was amused and, embracing his daughter, left her room, calling Ding Jinshi as they went downstairs.

"Miss is awake?" Aunt Xi greeted as the family of three ca down the stairs, "Sir, madam."

"I’ll take Jinshi and Baobei out for lunch; you just make sothing for yourself." Ding Long nodded and then said to his daughter, "How about dad takes Baobei to have hot pot as an apology?"

Ding Baobei loved hot pot and cake. Hearing Ding Long’s words, she glanced at Ding Jinshi behind her, saw her mom smile at her, then nodded in agreent.

As Ding Long said, Huang Ying was just an interlude in this family; once flipped over, no one ever brought it up again.

After learning that Ding Long had a vasectomy, Ding Father cursed him over the phone, demanding he quickly go to the hospital to undo it, yet didn’t dare ntion Huang Ying anymore. After all, they weren’t sure if Huang Ying was really pregnant or just playing with them; hence, they also held on to resentnt and naturally didn’t dare bring it up in front of Ding Long.

Afterward, Ding Father and Ding Mother no longer spoke about Ding Jinshi and Ding Baobei in front of Ding Long. When Ding Baobei turned three, Ding Jinshi enrolled her in preschool.

Although away from ho now, Ding Baobei seed a lot happier with many friends of her age, accompanied by teachers and peers daily at preschool, her personality beca a lot more cheerful.

If life continued this way, perhaps Ding Jinshi wouldn’t entertain more thoughts; she had her daughter and could devote all her energy to her for a lifeti.

Yet she never imagined that Ding Long, as a father, would bring disaster upon her and Baobei.

The first ti Ding Jinshi was summoned to the police station for questioning, she realized Ding Long’s company might just be a shell for money laundering. Whether fake money involved Ding Long, Ding Jinshi didn’t know, but she faintly sensed drugs might be linked to him.
