Revive Rome: Wait! Why not make the empress fall in love with me first? Chapter 635: 14 The So-Called Father
Chapter 635: Chapter 14 The So-Called Father
“Does it still hurt?”
After training, Aske found dea and asked with concern.
“Not really.” dea felt a hint of sweetness from her boyfriend’s care, as if the pain on her body had vanished for the mont.
But then she heard Aske say, “That’s good, help connect with Sigrdrifa, I have sothing to ask her.”
dea: ……
Damn you, you jerk!
She cursed silently in her heart, but still honestly set up the communication with Sigrdrifa for Aske.
“Aske?” Sigrdrifa sounded surprised on the other side.
“How have you been lately, Sigrdrifa?” Aske said with a smile, “Are you doing okay with the Otwell Family?”
He had expected Sigrdrifa to say “I’m fine” in a casual way, however, there was only silence on the other end.
“dea?” Aske turned back and asked if dea’s ability had failed.
Then, he heard Sigrdrifa ask in a low voice:
“Aske, do you think the rcenary Corps and the Extraordinary Family can coexist? I an… is it possible for to be both a Norman and a rcenary of The Azure Longsword?”
Aske: ???
“Do you an, you’ve felt the warmth of the family and now you want to leave the corps?” he asked with a mixture of crying and laughter.
dea’s face changed next to him: What, Sigrdrifa is leaving the corps? Doesn’t that an I’ll be fighting alone…
“There’s no such thing,” Sigrdrifa denied decisively, “It’s just that Robert talked to recently.”
From what Sigrdrifa told them, they realized that Robert had beco aware of the existence of The Azure Longsword rcenary Corps. After all, it wasn’t the first or second ti that they appeared on television; hiding their fa was simply not possible.
However, the contradictory nature of the Normans was that they had no concept of loyalty or betrayal, hence Robert didn’t issue any warnings regarding Sigrdrifa’s potential “collusion,” instead he expressed admiration and encouragent.
For example, Robert himself was a Demigod who had co to Sicily years ago to join his brother, William. Logically, with another Demigod joining the family, William should have welcod him.
But, in reality, things ended on bad terms. William felt that Robert’s arrival could threaten his ruling position over the Outville Family. Robert humbly said that wasn’t his intention; he just ca to his brother’s territory to hang around as a noble.
Then William said alright, I have land for you at the Church Court, and I’ll allocate so troops from the Northern Horn for you, go and fight for it yourself!
Robert: ……
For this reason, even though Robert was a Demigod of the Outville Family, he actually had no sense of identification with the family. To put it bluntly, the rise and fall of the Outville Family were none of Robert’s business unless the family ended up in his hands—that would be a different story.
So, Robert wanted Sigrdrifa to co and ask The Azure Longsword if both sides wanted to join forces for a big play, like plotting to take over the family or sothing…
This made Sigrdrifa quite conflicted. Being a spy already made uncomfortable, and now they want to evolve into a double agent? Isn’t that a bit too much?
On one hand, she felt extrely awkward; on the other, she was filled with guilt, feeling like she was betraying both the team and the family at the sa ti. It was a good thing Aske had contacted her this ti, so she could share this dilemma with everyone.
“So, that’s how it is,” Aske mused for a mont, “dea, what do you think?”
“Collaborating with Sigrdrifa’s father is actually in our plan,” dea said with a smile. “According to the current intelligence, Lord Robert’s situation in the Otwell Family is far from ideal.”
“If the two sides could cooperate, it would indeed save us a lot of effort. The only problem lies in Lord Robert’s own wishes. Now that he has taken the initiative to bring up this matter, it couldn’t be better.”
“Is it?” Sigrdrifa breathed a sigh of relief to herself.
“I see,” Aske realized. Sending Sigrdrifa into the opposing family wasn’t just for espionage; from the very start, it included the intention to turn her father.
If we could win over a demigod to our side, the risk to our plan would greatly decrease. But using a daughter to turn her own father… While Sigrdrifa herself had no objections, Aske had to admit that he wouldn’t have thought of such a devious sche; it was truly a strategy only dea could have concocted.
Aske was reflecting on this with a sense of admiration, but dea’s thoughts at this mont were entirely different. The Enchanting Demon Miss keenly noticed that Sigrdrifa’s last “Is it?” carried a sense of relief.
Does this an she now doesn’t wish for us to be enemies with Robert? Has her hostility and aversion to her father softened?
dea marveled to herself. If this were true, it would be a good thing, essentially adding another potential demigod to their list of contacts.
But this was contingent on the truth of Sigrdrifa’s father’s words, and not so alternative sche involving The Azure Longsword. dea had heard of the Norman’s cunning, comparable to an Ice Plain Wolf, and she didn’t believe for a second that his presence of a single daughter would make him 100% friendly toward everyone.
Hmm, it clearly isn’t cautious enough to judge Robert’s attitude solely based on Sigrdrifa’s word. When the opportunity arises, it would still be prudent to cultivate so additional spies or puppets…
While dea was calculating in secret, she said to Sigrdrifa with a smile:
“In that case, don’t be hasty in replying to your father. We will arrange a ti to discuss this properly with him later.”
“Alright, I understand,” Sigrdrifa nodded.
After the communication ended, she stood up from the bed and pushed open the door to the outside.
Sigrdrifa’s room was located deep within the court, leading to an independent courtyard tended to by two Sicilian maids.
At this mont, the maids were nowhere to be seen, and Robert was sitting on the edge of the flower bed with one boot casually resting on the tile, holding a cigarette and puffing out smoke.
“What’s the verdict?” he looked toward his daughter.
“Wait a bit longer,” Sigrdrifa replied concisely.
“Oh,” Robert showed no expression, just patted the tile beside him.
Sigrdrifa fell silent for a mont, then sat down next to him.
Neither spoke a word, engaging in a strange father-daughter interaction that was actually quite eerie. In reality, both understood what the other was thinking.
Sigrdrifa was waiting for him to give an explanation about her mother Sally’s past. Why had her mother been deserted in that place? And forced into that sort of work? Why had her mother never wished to ntion her father’s na, what exactly had happened between them?
However, Robert had no intention of explaining. He silently finished his last puff of smoke, then tossed the butt onto the ground and said:
“In November, there will be a Viking trial within the family.”
“In the North, the trial typically involves swimming across the North Sea, hunting down a polar bear alone, and returning draped in its pelt… But since we are in Sicily, we don’t have polar bears, so likely sothing else will be substituted.”
“Participate in this trial.”
“Okay,” Sigrdrifa responded quietly.
