Chapter 265: Chapter 265: Choose Me or Choose Him 4
He had imagined a life with her, spending every day together, inseparable.
He had also imagined promising her a world of splendor, gifting her a lifetime of peace and warmth.
Aaron Wyatt, Annabelle Linton. One man, one woman, one lifetime.
He had seen every side of her.
He’d seen her cry and seen her laugh. Seen her at her strongest and her most timid. Her most confident and her most insecure...
But no matter what, it was always the real her. And that was when he started to notice her.
And once he got a taste, it went straight to the bone. It was like a poison, an addiction he could never kick.
He knew she liked someone else. He’d always known.
But he didn’t care. He just wanted her to be happy. As long as she was happy, that was all that mattered.
As long as her life was good, he was willing to stay by her side, to be a shoulder for her to lean on when she was tired.
He knew she had no one else to depend on, and he was willing to be her sole protector.
But she wasn’t happy.
Because that man didn’t treat her well.
He was always hurting her, making her cry.
All he ever brought her was pain.
Then, his reason took hold, and he realized he wanted to be the one to give her happiness.
But just as he resolved to protect her for the rest of his life, she married that other man.
Two years...
If he could, he would go back to the very beginning, to his first memory of her.
Because back then, he wouldn’t have been such a coward.
Aaron Wyatt’s eyes began to slowly close, his face deathly pale.
Annabelle Linton placed a hand on his chest, feeling his heartbeat grow weaker and weaker. She let out a choked scream, "No! Aaron Wyatt, you can’t die! I forbid you to die, do you hear me?!"
Only then did she remember to call for help. She scrambled to find a phone on one of the dead bodies, then called for an ambulance and the police.
Annabelle Linton looked at his pale, weak form. She gripped his hand, trying to keep him still, trying to keep him from giving up hope as she administered first aid.
Her vision blurred with tears as she looked at him. "Aaron Wyatt, are you trying to leave me all alone? Without you, how am I supposed to go on living? I’m telling you, I forbid you to die! If you die, I’ll kill myself and follow you, believe me!"
"Aaron Wyatt, don’t die. I need you. You can’t just leave me like this. If you leave me, it’s like the whole world has given up on me. What would be the point of living then? Please don’t die. Can’t we just live, together?"
Hearing this, Aaron Wyatt’s unfocused eyes found her. He raised a weak hand to her face. "Annabelle... you can’t die. I don’t want you to die..."
Fresh tears streamed down Annabelle Linton’s face as she nodded. "Okay, I won’t die. But you can’t die either. If you die, I won’t want to live anymore."
"You silly girl..." A bitter smile touched Aaron Wyatt’s lips. "Annabelle, are you... are you already married to him?"
’He realized how much this question mattered to him. He was dying, and he still cared.’
’Perhaps he just couldn’t accept it.’
Annabelle Linton froze for a second before nodding. She told him the truth. "Yes, I married him. But I don’t love him. We’re getting a divorce—we’ve been trying to for a while. His grandfather got sick recently, so we’re waiting until he’s a little better. There’s nothing between us."
Hearing this, a light flashed in Aaron Wyatt’s eyes—joy, excitement. He looked at her, his voice tense. "Really?"
"Really."
Aaron Wyatt squeezed her hand tightly, his gaze full of hope. "Annabelle... I really, really, really like you. I’ve liked you ever since the day we met. Have you... have you ever liked me?"
Annabelle Linton was stunned.
Just then, the wail of a siren cut through the air. Annabelle Linton scrambled to her feet to help him up. "Aaron Wyatt, you’re saved! The ambulance is here! Just hold on a little longer, we have to go now!"
Aaron Wyatt watched her but didn’t move to get up. He asked again, stubbornly, "Annabelle, do you like me?"
Annabelle Linton didn’t know how to answer.
’She didn’t know if she liked him—not in that way—but she knew he was incredibly important to her.’
’In that moment, she couldn’t tell the difference between love and friendship. All she knew, looking at his hopeful face, was that he couldn’t die. That was the only thought in her mind.’
She nodded. "I do. So you can’t die. If you die, I won’t want to live on alone."
"Okay... I won’t die..." Clutching his chest, Aaron Wyatt struggled to his feet, and Annabelle Linton quickly moved to support him.
They both got to their feet, but as they turned, they came face-to-face with the sinister gaze of Leona Grant—
