Chapter 264: Chapter 263: Choose Me or Him 3

Annabelle Linton took a breath and placed her cuffed wrist on the iron bar, completely devoid of fear. "Go ahead. I’m ready."

Aaron Wyatt looked at Annabelle Linton’s slender hand and also took a breath. Then he brought the axe down with all his might—

CLANG—

The axe rose and fell. With a loud clang, the handcuff on Annabelle Linton’s wrist broke.

Joy flashed across both their faces, but a greater danger had yet to be dealt with.

Aaron Wyatt grasped Annabelle Linton’s hand tightly and said with determination, "Annabelle, hold on to me. Don’t let go, no matter what."

"Okay!"

They immediately charged downstairs. Annabelle Linton spotted the discarded axe, scooped it up, and carried it with her.

When they reached the second floor, their path was blocked by collapsed debris.

A sharp glint flashed in Annabelle Linton’s eyes. She looked at a door to their left and shouted, "In that room! We can jump from the window!"

"Right!"

They entered the room to find the window welded shut with steel bars. Annabelle Linton grabbed the axe and hacked at them a few times, but they wouldn’t break.

"Let me!"

Aaron Wyatt took the axe from Annabelle Linton and struck the bars with all his strength. They began to bend and crack.

With a few more brutal swings, Aaron Wyatt smashed a large enough opening for them to squeeze through.

Aaron Wyatt jumped down first, reaching up to catch Annabelle Linton. Not daring to delay, she quickly jumped after him.

Just then, a single, precise bullet shot toward Annabelle Linton.

"Watch out—"

Just as the bullet was about to strike her, Aaron Wyatt shoved her aside. It slammed perfectly into his chest instead.

The sheer force of the gunshot knocked Aaron Wyatt flat on his back.

Annabelle Linton was too stunned to react. After three seconds of shock, tears instantly streamed down her face as she let out a piercing scream, "Aaron Wyatt!"

She scrambled toward him, heedless of anything else, completely missing the fact that the person who had just shot Aaron Wyatt had also been killed.

Annabelle Linton knelt beside him, a sobbing wreck. "Aaron Wyatt! Aaron, how are you? Don’t scare me, please, don’t scare me!"

"Annabelle... d-don’t cry..." Aaron Wyatt weakly raised a hand to wipe away her tears. Blood was already trickling from the corner of his own mouth.

Seeing his condition, Annabelle Linton burst into sobs. "Aaron Wyatt... Aaron, hang on! I’ll get you out of here! You have to hang on!"

She struggled to pull him up, draping his arm over her shoulders and trying to support his weight as she moved forward.

But he was a full-grown man, far too heavy for her to support. They both collapsed to the ground.

Annabelle Linton pounded the ground in anguish, hating how useless she was.

"Anna... Annabelle... you have to... go... Just go... don’t worry about me..." Aaron Wyatt said, his voice as faint as a fading thread of silk.

Annabelle Linton shook her head, sobbing, her heart feeling as if it were being sliced open. "No, I’m not leaving! If we’re going to die, we’ll die here together! You never gave up on me, so how could I ever give up on you? Someone will come for us! Just hang on!"

Aaron Wyatt’s gaze on Annabelle Linton grew unfocused. His eyes were flat, completely still as he quietly, silently, waited for death, having lost all will to live.

Through his blurring vision, he seemed to see a beautiful girl smiling at him under a dazzling sun.

Annabelle. Gentle and quiet. With her, it felt like the whole world was bathed in sunshine.

’He couldn’t remember when he’d fallen in love with her.’

’But after meeting her, he was no longer lonely, no longer insecure. It was as if he had finally found a reason to live, a purpose.’

’He had imagined a life with her, spending every day together, never to be parted.’
