Alia looked at the man before her and pressed her lips into a thin line.
According to her mories, Ryan was the most reasonable one among them. He was a person with a high intellect who loved spending ti reading about research and unfolding himself in new innovations.
How could a person as intellectual as him act so unreasonable?
"What do you want from ?" Alia asked when she had no choice. The third lecture had ended, and the man showed no interest in leaving her alone.
Ryan just smiled before shaking his head.
"I want to be your friend," Ryan said.
Alia, who was packing her belongings, stopped for a second.
"A friend?" she whispered, barely audible.
Want to be her friend? A friend? The word felt heavy on her tongue, as if she was forced to say a foreign word with a different accent.
Did she ever have a friend? Alia racked her brains to see if anyone was close to her that she could call a friend.
Can her driver, Marcos, be called a friend? A friend doesn’t need to be age-specific, right?
And what about that leopard she used to feed near her research lab? That leopard was her friend, too, wasn’t he? But soone that was of her age and in her class...
She rembered trying to make friends when she was little. However, when anyone talked to her, weird rumors about her spread out of nowhere, and people started distancing themselves from her.
That was probably the reason why Alpha Killian never looked at her or gave her the respect that soone would give to a human being, let alone soone who saved his mother.
"I don’t need a friend," Alia said before she stood from her place.
Ryan’s smile faltered a bit. This was the first ti he asked soone to be his friend.
Usually, people would go around and try to beco their friends because they were the alphas of the Ashborn pack.
However, who would’ve thought that his first attempt at befriending soone would fail like that?
Seeing Alia walking out of the class, probably heading towards the canteen to have her lunch, Ryan called Aaron and Derrick.
"What is it?" Derrick asked, annoyed that his session with the hot chick was interrupted.
He stopped the girl from moving her hands down his abdon, his glare putting her in place.
"What do you an? It’s lunchti. Don’t tell you are already shocking your tongue in soone’s throat. At least feel pity for your future mate. Do you seriously want to give her so STDs?" Ryan asked, annoyed, before ending the call.
He called Aaron next.
At the sa ti, Alia, who walked inside the Canteen to eat her lunch, sat at the corner table to avoid any attention.
She didn’t want to co here. She would’ve preferred to be inside the forest to eat, but after everything, the area was forbidden for the ti being until a thorough check of all the trespassing areas was done.
She heard Dominic Bentley took responsibility for himself under the jurisdiction of the royal guards.
Alia opened the bento box, her heart warming at the food.
She took out her cutlery, ready to dive in, when she saw Alpha Killian and Hannah sitting in the middle of the canteen.
Alia paused. She wanted to look away but couldn’t help but feel a pang of hurt in her chest when she saw their table filling with so many people as they laughed and chatted about nothing in particular.
Ryan’s words about being a friend echoed in her head, hitting where it hurt the most.
She observed how Killian helped Hannah with the food.
A flashback of mory appeared in her mind.
During an experint in the laboratory, she had ended up mixing too highly reactive chemicals with the herbs that imdiately reacted, and the explosion had burnt her hand, throwing her away, or her body would’ve burnt terribly.
In the anti, she couldn’t even do basic things, and when Killian had sat with Hannah and her, she rembered looking at Killian expectantly.
However, the guy was busy peeling oranges for Hannah.
She rembered being left alone on the table to fend for herself because Killian took Hannah to the infirmary.
At that ti, she thought Hannah was saving her from humiliation before everyone else, and since she loved her sister, she didn’t mind it.
But not looking back in ti, a scoff left her mouth.
She was about to bite her food when she heard the screeching sounds of chairs being pulled.
Alia couldn’t help but raise her brows when she saw five plates being placed on her table.
"I can see a lot of space here. Let’s use it," Ryan said boldly before he sat beside Alia.
"What are you—" Alia started but was cut off by Derrick.
"What? Now, you won’t allow us to use the university’s property?" Derrick asked.
Alia looked around helplessly and noticed that other tables were indeed occupied by one or two people. She couldn’t help but sigh.
She knew the four guys on the table. Aaron, Derrick, Ryan, and Alpha Zane, who had helped her in the morning. But the woman...
"Hi, I am Luna Jennifer, Alpha Zane’s mate," Jennifer extended her hand, and Alia smiled before shaking her hand.
"It’s nice to et you, Luna," Alia said with a genuine smile.
"She didn’t say that to us," Aaron grumbled.
"Hmm?" Jennifer asked.
"She hates us," Aaron said, and Alia practically glared at him as if he was ruining her image before a Luna.
"Look at her sharp gaze," Aaron pointed at her face, and Alia quickly schooled her expression before raising her hand and shaking it to indicate whatever he was saying wasn’t true.
Aaron’s voice caught people’s attention, and they looked at their table with complex emotions.
"Oh, I didn’t see Alia sitting here. I should call her over," Hannah stood.
Killian wanted to stop her, but he also wanted to see how Alia would react. Was she really changing that much?
"I will do it. You sit and eat. Don’t bother yourself with such trivial things," Hannah’s friend, Alexia, said.
Alexia walked to Alia’s table with an arrogant expression.
She nodded in respect to the alphas before looking at Alia.
"Hannah is calling you over. Don’t make her upset. Why didn’t you join us? You know Hannah cares about you a lot. Stop upsetting her," Alexia said.
Alia raised her face and looked at Alexia before nodding.
"I will co after eating," she said, not wanting any drama before everyone.
Alexia scoffed.
"Do you think you are so kind of queen that you will co after eating? Didn’t you hear? Hannah is waiting for you. She is your elder sister. Co," Alexia said, holding Alia’s hand, ready to pull her out of the table and take her forcefully, just like they always did.
