Luo Zhiming initially kept a smile on his face, telling her, as the eldest sister, not to be petty with the sister-in-law.
But Luo Cuilan was relentless, and her remarks grew increasingly unpleasant, even bringing up the matters between Luo Zhiming and Fang Xiu as a couple, claiming that people outside were talking about it too.
She also said that it was not just outsiders who witnessed it; even the family knew about it, and they could hear the sounds of the couple being intimate in the room from the courtyard.
Since Fang Xiu wasn’t anything decent either, why should she talk about her that way?
She insisted that, if Luo Zhiming didn’t go beat Fang Xiu, at the very least, he should force Fang Xiu to co out and apologize to her.
In the presence of Luo Dashan and Zhou Yuni, Luo Zhiming felt embarrassed when Luo Cuilan brought up these matters, so he beca infuriated and started arguing with her.
Luo Cuilan, considering her status as the eldest sister, would not let Luo Zhiming scold her at will.
By the ti Fang Pingying and the others went out, the siblings nearly ca to blows, but luckily, Zhou Yuni and Luo Dashan were there to diate.
Zhou Yuni seed to have been driven to the end of her tether by the two of them and started to cast around in desperation.
Seeing Fang Pingying co out, she seed to have found a savior and hurriedly said to her, "Pingying, your timing is perfect, you’re their older sister-in-law, you decide who’s right and who’s wrong."
Fang Pingying certainly wasn’t idle; she definitely wouldn’t intervene in such a thankless matter.
No matter who she judged to be right or wrong, it wouldn’t lead to any good outco.
She just smiled faintly and advised, "Let’s not argue, we’re all family, who’s right and who’s wrong doesn’t matter that much."
"Right, exactly, let’s stop the fuss," Luo Hong Lan, following closely behind Fang Pingying, also said.
Although Fang Pingying didn’t join the fray, she still spoke up to smooth things over, "By the way, I’ve almost finished cooking dinner, let’s go eat later. I made so potato pancakes specially today, and they should taste pretty good."
"Yeah, it looks delicious," Luo Hong Lan said, and then pulled Luo Zhiming aside, speaking in a low voice, "Second brother, don’t argue anymore. Our eldest sister is pregnant, she can’t get upset, surely you don’t want to get physical with her, do you?"
"Ah, my stomach." As soon as Luo Cuilan heard what Luo Honglan said, she suddenly let out a cry, clutching her belly and shouting, "Mom, my stomach hurts."
Luo Cuilan’s acting was far from impressive, and her timing was off too; as soon as Luo Honglan finished speaking, she started to yell, and everyone knew she was faking it.
But Zhou Yuni couldn’t very well expose her outright, so she reached out to help her, "If your stomach hurts, go inside and rest a bit, stop making a scene, he’s your own brother, what exactly do you want to do?"
Dissatisfied that she hadn’t achieved her goal, and now with Zhou Yuni siding with Luo Zhiming, Luo Cuilan glared at Zhou Yuni and roared, "Mom, why do you always take his side? Do you plan to rely solely on him for support in the future?"
"Could it be that we should rely only on you for support?" Zhou Yuni sighed with worry in her heart, "After you marry into the Zhang family, if you can manage to live well, that would be enough for ; I can’t count on you."
Pausing for a mont, she gently advised Zhou Yuni, "And don’t take this the wrong way, but you now shouldn’t spoil your relationship with your two brothers too much, or else, after you marry into your husband’s family and need soone to stand up for you, you won’t find anyone. Your father and I are getting old; we couldn’t support you much either."
Although won’s status in their husband’s family was no longer as dependent on the strength of their parental family as in ancient tis.
Won would still encounter problems within their husband’s family where they might need their own family’s support for face-saving appearances.
It seems that Zhou Yuni’s words struck a chord with Luo Cuilan. After hearing them, she stopped talking and let Zhou Yuni help her into the house.
Seeing that she had cald down, Luo Zhiming also went back to his own room.
Back in his room, Fang Xiu was lying on the kang bed. Hearing the door open, she propped herself up into a sitting position.
She had been sleeping so soundly just now that she was completely unaware of the quarrel between Luo Zhiming and his siblings.
Seeing Luo Zhi coming in, she rembered the quarrel she had with Zhou Yuni that morning and how Luo Zhiming had walked away, which made her so angry that she grabbed a pillow and threw it at him.
Luo Zhiming caught it with one hand and frowned, asking, "What’s wrong with you now?"
Fang Xiu felt aggrieved just thinking about the morning and snapped back, "If you don’t like staying out, why co back at all? You might as well die out there."
Luo Zhiming’s eyebrows slightly furrowed, "What’s with you won and your sharp tongues? Every one of you."
"Who are you calling sharp-tongued?" Fang Xiu glared at him and started yelling, "Luo Zhiming, you heartless man, how did you sweet-talk when I married you? And now you just stand by and watch your mother hit without saying a word."
Rembering the day’s events filled Luo Zhiming’s stomach with fire too. He’d spent the morning at ho being hassled by mother and daughter-in-law, and had just co ho to be t with Luo Cuilan’s nagging until his head ached.
Upon entering the room and seeing Fang Xiu still not letting go of the matter, he beca impatient, "You should be ashad! Why would you fight with my mother? You’re a daughter-in-law; don’t you know what filial piety is?"
"Luo Zhiming..." Fang Xiu felt extrely wronged by his words, and she imdiately bit her lip and glared at Luo Zhiming with tears swirling in her eyes.
Only then did Luo Zhiming notice Fang Xiu’s face was a bit swollen, and his heart softened.
He sighed, sat down on the bed, and pulled Fang Xiu into his arms, gently touching her face with a hint of distress in his voice, "Did my mother do this to you? Has it still not healed?"
Fang Xiu, seeing that Luo Zhiming was trying to coax her, felt secretly delighted. She was just acting so aggrieved to make him feel sorry for her.
But on the surface, she continued to push him away, "Just go, weren’t you going to play the dutiful son? Get out, go sleep in your mother’s bed tonight, and don’t co here."
Luo Zhiming could see that Fang Xiu had softened, and with a chuckle, he pinched her face gently, teasing her, "If I went to sleep with my mother, wouldn’t you be left all alone in bed tonight?"
Fang Xiu had deliberately changed into a very loose garnt for sleep, and she wasn’t wearing anything else underneath, which ignited little flares of desire in Luo Zhiming’s eyes.
Luo Zhiming took a breath and, holding Fang Xiu from behind, slid his hand under her loose clothes, grasping the softness below, and began to knead it slowly.
Fang Xiu couldn’t help but let out a low moan, her face blushing as she pulled his hand out and glared at him, then turned over, ignoring him.
Luo Zhiming turned her back towards him and whispered in her ear, "Let’s sleep for a while, alright?"
After saying that, Luo Zhiming hurriedly embraced Fang Xiu and started to tip them both onto the bed.
Just as they were about to get to the main event, there ca a knock on the door from Zhou Yuni, "Zhiming, what are you doing? Call your wife out; it’s ti for dinner."
"Already?" Luo Zhiming was at a critical mont and was reluctant to stop abruptly.
"What do you an ’already’? Your sister-in-law and sister have already prepared dinner," Zhou Yuni seed to guess what they had been doing, muttering softly, "It’s not even dark yet. What are you doing shut away in the room so early, isn’t it embarrassing enough, or what? Such a lack of sha in a woman’s behavior." (To be continued.
