Chapter 1024: A Little Reunion

Without saying much of anything, she closed her eyes and began the process. Rael saw it firsthand, but Lilith was pretty much clueless. Despite that, the process was quite quick, and when it was finished, Eve opened her eyes.

They looked a lot sparklier this time, and that clearly meant a lot, since while she was dead, the fragment of her soul retained all the memories that had accumulated during the span of her death… until her grave was desecrated.

And now, as she glanced over at Lilith, she had a whole different perspective of her. Despite what she had expected, her daughter was far more vulnerable. She had so much to say… She seemed like a much stronger child when she was younger.

But alas, it was just her way of being a caring mother. Now that she knew the truth, and all the feelings that Lilith had shared with her in her insecurity, Eve had a whole different outlook on her now.

And so, while Rael was busy admiring the gazes they were giving each other, he eventually decided to take a couple of steps back before walking away entirely, leaving those two together.

It wasn’t his place to speak or say anything in that regard. It was just between those two. So Rael wandered around, making sure to go as far as he could, to the point where he could no longer sense their presence or hear their voices.

Finally, Rael was all alone, staring at the countless souls wandering around. They were bright this time around, since by the looks of things, the further out one went from their original universe, the brighter they became.

He wondered if there were people who were simply at the edge of the Underworld, living as though they had never died. In that regard, Rael was also curious about one thing in particular. It didn’t concern him… sure, but he was curious enough to look around.

And surprisingly enough, he found them… his parents. They had died many years ago in that plane crash. Technically, those were Renoir’s memories, but by now, Rael had decided to accept the fact that he was not only Rael but also Renoir, or at least the initial aspect that he was.

So technically, they were his parents too. However, unlike Lilith’s mother, they weren’t looking so good. Their figures were faint, and while they still had a similar amount of brightness as the others, they also seemed on the verge of death, their souls flickering in and out of consciousness as they rested several trillion light-years away from where he was.

But even then, Rael didn’t hesitate to take a single step forward and reappear behind them. They were in some small city, messing around with the barley and evidently bleeding out a little. It was his first time seeing blood in the Underworld, since he didn’t expect souls to be able to bleed.

Yet when he took a slightly closer look, he realized that it really was the soul bleeding. Their memories were being lost, and with every passing second, more and more of their memories were being erased.

It was a cruel fate, and he was wondering how it even got this bad. Despite that, Rael felt like he owed it to them to help, even if just a tiny bit. Therefore, he went ahead and approached them without them noticing.

Then, he placed his hand on their shoulders and began infusing a decent chunk of his mana into them while also channeling the Law of Time, trying his best to absorb all the erased memories back into their bodies.

It surprisingly worked.

And so, within just a few more minutes, Rael managed to pletely repair their souls and restore their brightness. Afterwards, he just stared at them as they suddenly glanced at one another, their expressions extremely confused.

“Did you do something?” his mother asked.

The father, on the other hand, just shrugged. “I farted.”

And with that, the two of them glared at one another before continuing to work. Rael stared at this with a smile. He wanted to say hello, perhaps even talk to them a little bit, but… what was the point?

His parents, at least the parents he remembered, were absolutely shit to him. They always pared him to Melissa, and if that wasn’t enough, he was sure that if he were to confront them about it now, the most they’d do was apologize.

He didn’t need an apology. He wanted a reunion that he wouldn’t forget. And as expected, this kind of shitshow made him reluctant to even glance at them for a second longer. Therefore, Rael went ahead and backed away.

It was a bit depressing, to say the least, but he was used to sadness. At the very least, he could stare at them from afar, knowing that even in the afterlife, they were still together.

When he died, would he go to them as well? Did he even really want that? A life after death with his parents or someone else… He would much rather disappear.

Rael paused for a moment, then sighed.

I guess I might be a little too negative. Either way, they’re fine now, and they’ll continue to be fine, since they now have my mana inside of them. In that regard, I guess I should start making my way back to Lilith.

With that, he glanced over in Lilith’s direction and realized that she was still talking with her mother. Crying too. So it was evidently too soon for him to go there. But what else could he do?

Were there any beings that he could meet now that he had some kind of connection to? No. Of course not. Not many of his allies died, and as for his enemies, all of them deserved what had happened to them.

So with that in mind, Rael decided to simply sit down on the ground and perform a bit of meditation.

After all, a being like him shouldn’t regret the past and should only look into the future.
