Su Ran and his two companions, along with a Fire Spirit, appeared halfway up a towering mountain. The base of the mountain was surrounded by crystal-clear rivers, a stark contrast to the foul-slling sewage they had encountered before. The difference was almost too much to believe.
Su Ran was no stranger to this mountain. He had once heard the protector, Luta, talk about it. This was the lifeline of the Elven race, integral to their survival. As long as the mountain stood, the Elves would persevere; if the mountain were to crumble, so too would they face extinction.
Ever since the Elf Forest returned to its normal state, this lifeline mountain had been greatly affected as well. The thriving vegetation on the slopes exuded a vibrant energy, refreshing Su Ran’s spirit with indescribable comfort.
“Brother Overturning Water, where did the lifeline protector go?”
Banana scanned the surrounding area in confusion. He couldn’t spot the Elf anywhere and muttered with mild dissatisfaction, “Last ti we ca, he showed up right away to greet us. But now? He’s acting like so aloof big shot!”
“Don’t think of him so poorly. Maybe he accidentally fell off the mountain and broke his leg or sothing.”
Through the dense forest, Su Ran gazed up toward the peak but didn’t see the suave, dashing figure. The na “Luta” had been disclosed to him by the Elf Queen, and he had to admit, the lifeline protector’s confidentiality asures were rather effective.
“Brother, you’re even crueler than . If he overhears you, he’ll surely co looking for payback!”
Banana felt utterly speechless. Anyone going against Brother Overturning Water wouldn’t necessarily end up dead, but they’d certainly be tornted enough to wish they were.
“Crazy Skeleton, with your deanor, you think you’re qualified to be an envoy? Talking poorly about others behind their back—have you no manners?”
The Fire Spirit, Ling Wei, pounced on every chance to belittle Su Ran. “Sister Wu Qing, let’s keep our distance from this guy. People like him aren’t worth befriending!”

Su Ran didn’t even know how to respond at this point. This Fire Spirit was making him her enemy ti and ti again. Even the most patient monk couldn’t tolerate this forever. Did she think he was just an easy target?
Before he could say anything, Xue Wuqing stepped in, visibly upset.
“Little Wei, all he did was say sothing you didn’t like about the situation earlier. Is it really worth holding such a grudge? Don’t forget, he’s your savior! You’re tarnishing the reputation of the Elves!”
Xue Wuqing rarely lost her temper, but now she admonished Ling Wei harshly. “The Elf Queen entrusted you to to help temper your personality. If you keep acting this way, don’t follow anymore—it’s just embarrassing!”
The mont those words ca out, Banana’s jaw dropped in astonishnt. He couldn’t believe Xue Wuqing would scold Ling Wei for Brother Overturning Water’s sake. The situation had definitely gotten interesting, layered with implications. Could it be that Sister Wu Qing wasn’t immune to Brother Overturning Water’s influence either?
No matter how hard he tried, Banana couldn’t figure out what made Brother Overturning Water so captivating. A skeleton body and a hoarse voice—what was so appealing about that?
But when he rembered Su Ran’s talk about his territory’s advanced features, he realized it all at once. The world of the wealthy was sothing a lowly person like him could never understand…
“Sister Wu Qing, you’re actually yelling at for his sake? Waaa…”
Ling Wei, thoroughly chastised by Xue Wuqing, turned pale. It felt as though her family had abandoned her. She’d never experienced such emotions before and couldn’t handle it. Crying, she fled into the woods, vanishing from sight in short order.
“Sister Wu Qing, what are you doing? She’s still a child—there’s no need to be so harsh. Brother Overturning Water hasn’t even gotten angry, yet you’re already losing your cool.”
Banana shook his head helplessly and pointed in the direction where Ling Wei had disappeared, sighing as he spoke. “This isn’t good. If Ling Wei gets lost or hurt in the lifeline area, how are you going to explain yourself to the Elf Queen?”
“Don’t worry about her! That girl’s been spoiled rotten her whole life. If she doesn’t learn her lesson now, she’ll only grow worse later!”
Xue Wuqing didn’t seem fazed at all. With Ling Wei gone, her surroundings were much quieter. Summoning her flying steed, she mounted it and finally said, “The Queen did entrust Ling Wei to , true, but that was upon arriving at the God-Demon Continent. If anything goes wrong now, the Queen won’t bla .”
“Fair point. Ling Wei is indeed over the top sotis. Letting her suffer a bit won’t hurt. But here’s another problem: the lifeline mountain shouldn’t pose any real dangers. In our own territory, at most she might get lost…”
Banana turned his gaze toward Su Ran and asked with a curious tone, “Brother Overturning Water, since you’re directly involved, you haven’t said anything all this ti. Are you still angry at Little Sister Ling Wei?”
“Pfft. If I were mad at her, I’d have died from anger long ago. With you two chiming in all the ti, there’s no need for to add my input.”
Su Ran cracked a grin. “Sister Wu Qing, you’re giving Ling Wei way too much credit. Back then, even after being sealed in the well for so many years, she didn’t change her attitude. Now you think a few words from you will reform her? That’s just wishful thinking.”
“Doesn’t matter. As long as she doesn’t stir up trouble around , I’m fine with it,” Xue Wuqing replied. She rode her white flying horse into the sky and shouted, “You two hurry up; I’ll be waiting for you at the summit!”
With that, she urged her horse to fly toward the peak. Soon, the trees obscured her from Su Ran and Banana’s view.
“Brother, Sister Wu Qing may act tough, but at heart she’s soft as tofu. Ling Wei’s only been gone a short while, and she’s already anxious. I’d bet anything she’s not heading to see the lifeline protector but to track down Ling Wei instead.”
