KIAN

Iknew it.

Andreas fucking Norlen doesn’t read books. So there is no point in having a whole damn ass of bookshelf in your bed chamber. Wastage of space and so damn subtle. It only just screams that sothing is wrong here.

The bookshelf moves aside effortlessly with a creaking noise. I grimace. I have heard my enough share of weird noise today, and it has already put on edge. I didn’t need another one to add to the least.

I am not interested in letting people know the description of my personal life. But there are a few things anyone can pick up from my behavior. I am totally a health freak. I like to maintain a proper routine, which includes waking up early in the morning, eating five small als throughout the day, working eight hours a day, doing two hours of physical training, and working out.

I like to take long cold baths, a clean and healthy environnt, and noiseless calm surroundings. I also hate bad slls. I despise anything that is outside of my perfectly disciplined schedule.

And here I am, doing shit, I have no business doing. And for who? A man I barely have any idea about and he is making do it by pointing his knife to my throat. Wow. How fascinating. But for so reason, I can’t get enough reason to kill him and be done with it yet. I despise him but I don’t have it in to kill him...yet.

"This is a hidden passageway." Lain scans the darkness and the surroundings inside the passageway.

"Thanks, detective." My tone is dripping with sarcasm and annoyance and I don’t bother to tamp it down. I am irritated and I am making sure Lain knows it. "If you didn’t say, I wouldn’t know that this is a hidden passageway. I am blind, you see. Just like your pet ghost."

Lain shoots a look of disdain, "I was just keeping her with . You don’t have to be sarcastic about it. And don’t be annoyed just yet. We might find sothing interesting after all."

I don’t know what makes Lain say that but I can’t keep my annoyance and irritation in check. The fact that Lain lied to is going in circles inside my head like a damn broken radio, and it is irritating beyond my liking. I am well aware of the fact that nothing Lain has said to up until now is nothing but lies. But still, when the broken fragnts are falling into the right places, I can do nothing to prevent my disdain.

I huff but don’t say more about the topic. Lain doesn’t waste any more ti and starts to climb down the dark staircase of the passageway. I follow after him.

It is so dark in here that I can’t even decipher my hand in front of my face. There is a murky stench lingering in the air. It is dense enough to make turn on my heels and get the hell out of here. It is almost suffocating here and it is pushing my guards into high alert.

There is a soft thud, and if I hadn’t stopped, I would have bumped into Lain, who has just bumped into what seems like a door.

"Ow..." He yelps, his smoky voice reverberating against the cold stone walls of the passageway. The only source of light is the light of Andreas’ room which seems like miles away from here.

"Careful." This is all I say as I feel around the door. A small, a very small, part of wants to check up on Lain for any bruise or injury. But I carefully tuck away the thought and build concrete walls around it so that it doesn’t escape from there and run wild inside my head.

I push the door lightly and it creaks open, revealing another dense layer of darkness. I fish out a lighter and light it up.

"If you had a lighter then why didn’t you use it before?" Lain huffs, clearly displeased. He is still rubbing the spot on his forehead where he got bumped, the beautiful lines of his face scrunched up. I can see a bruise bloom on the side of his forehead.

I quickly check up on him head to toe by the corner of my eyes under the warm light of the lighter before I force my eyes away from him. His erald eyes are glinting in the soft light. It is casting a warm glow over his pale face as well as onymous shadows. He looks majestic but I am not about to voice it. Because it would sound so fucking weird, and other than that, I don’t want to inflate his ego more than it already is.

"Because you didn’t tell to," I answer matter-of-factly which makes Lain even more irritated than he already is.

"Thanks, detective." He turns my order to , "I will take a note of it."

I don’t bother to answer his sarcasm as I step inside the secret room. The mont we enter, the mage lights flicker on, and we take a better look at our surroundings.

It looks like a normal study. A luxurious, clean study, common in every household of military n. But I know better than to mistake it. Who hides their study behind a passageway if there is nothing out of the ordinary about it?

"The Saber is on the table." Lain tugs at the hem of my clothes, pointing at the weapon lying on the desk at the end of the large expanse of the room.

It is sheathed and I feel no evil aura executing from it. I carefully approach the weapon, Lain on my tow. I am almost sure that he is using as a shield against any lurking danger.

I take the weapon in my hand and admire the perfection of it. I can clearly see why Crystal is obsessed with this.

There is suddenly a sound of shuffle and my gaze snaps toward the direction to find Lain standing just a foot away from , looking neutral.

My eyes narrow at him. He is hiding sothing.
