LIAN

Taking risks isn’t one of my characteristics. But it seems like the more I am spending my days with Kian, it is becoming a habit. And I absolutely despise it. I an who likes to take risks? At least I don’t. I don’t care if you call boring for this or whatever.

But nowadays, I am risking it all without thinking twice. Like now I just snuck a few letters from Oliver from Andreas’ desk when Kian was busy studying that stupid Saber. Lucky for the letters were just right in front of , laid out on the tabletop. It appears that the God of Luck, indeed, sotis forgets about the animosity she has against and helps a little.

Good thing. I am not complaining. But what should I co up with to explain the shuffling sound that the papers made when I was tucking them away?

Kian stares at , unblinking, his eyes narrowed with suspicion and I curse myself as I fight to keep my expression neutral.

Calm down, Liam. He is just suspicious. Don’t raise his suspicion.

"What are you doing?" Kian raises an eyebrow at .

"I am just looking around a bit," I say naturally—so fluently that I am almost proud of myself. "It is a nice study." I gesture toward the large expanse of the room.

It is indeed a nice room, but unfortunately,, both of us know all too well that I am not dumb enough to carelessly touch anything in this room.

We stare at each other. No one speaks. No one makes a sound. Our soft breathing is the only thing I can hear besides the restless thumping of my heart in my ears. And I am praying to all the Gods sitting up there that Kian doesn’t hear my heartbeat because if he does, I am sure as hell that it will be the last ti that it even beats.

There is a whoosh, and Kian tears his eyes away from , and air cos rushing back to my lungs. I try my best not to show how much I am affected by his eyes on . And I hate to admit that it is all for the wrong reasons.

Oh, Liam, you will ruin your dignity as a proud man soday. And that soday is near~

I shut off the taunting voice in an instant and focused on Kian, which—again—I shouldn’t have.

The hint of suspicion lingers in Kian’s eyes, but thankfully, he doesn’t expand on his suspicion because the air is so damn thick here. Was the air in the Earth this thick? Or is it the man before who is manipulating the air to choke ? I wouldn’t be surprised if he does. He can do anything.

Kian and I get out of the hidden study silently. Kian doesn’t waste his ti looking around the study because he doesn’t have enough ti for this and I am very thankful that he doesn’t.

The silence between us is almost painful as we climb our way up to the rooftop. It will be a while before the reinforcent arrives. We will be long gone by then.

Kian still doesn’t speak as we stand by each other’s side on the roof. The cold night breeze whips against my skin and makes winch. Ice prickles my skin and a chill claws down my spine, wrecking a shiver through .

Is it actually cold tonight, or is it particularly cold here?

I get my answer soon enough when I spot Crystal lurking around at the edge of the room. Her white silhouette sways and flutters in the night breeze, painting an ideal picture of an ideal ghost.

My lips are thin, and I want to throw a few awards on her face for being the perfect nightmare for children. But I don’t do that. I know better than to let my intrusive thoughts control my conscience.

Kian throws the sheathed Saber on her way. She catches it before it can even touch the ground. "Here is the thing that you demanded. I hope this satisfies you." Kian’s voice is nonchalant, there is no hint of his earlier irritation. "So, I hope I will never see you or hear from you from now on. And I also hope that the people of my Kingdom won’t see you as well from this point forward. Our business is done and this is where we part ways."

Crystal nods her head, her pale face showing no emotions whatsoever. I am pretty sure she has taken her revenge this is why she is appearing so calm. I can’t even sense any evil energy wafting off of her. Vengeance actually changes things it appears. I wonder if my vengeance will do the sa.

And other than that...well, I suppose I will be overruling Kian once again. Because I need to see Crystal again. She has the information I need. I told her to ask Andreas about Oliver. I don’t know if she did that or not. But I wouldn’t know until I ask.

And if she did get the information out for , then it would be a lot helpful for my mission. I haven’t forgotten why I am here. And the sooner I get out of here the better.

I should thank Kian for introducing to this murder case because his oblivious has brought so key information to fulfill my mission. I am kidding. I am NEVER thanking Kian for anything.

"Good." Kian nods at her in acknowledgnt, "You may go now."

Crystal’s head turns to for a brief second before she vanishes into the thin air. I grimace again. Guess, I am never getting used to how these ghosts poof in and out of the thin air.

Kian and I return to our horse. I am pretty tired from all the in and out I went through since the morning. But I don’t let myself fall asleep in Kain’s arms as we make our way back to his fortress. I am even successful in my attempt for a few hours before eventually relaxing and drifting off to sleep.

Sothing about him makes unusually relaxed around him. And I, for so unfathomable reason, know that Kian won’t let anything kill , even if he wants to kill the most.

This is how we work I suppose.
