LIAM

I know I am in deep shit the mont I see Kian’s eyes sharpen at . Realization had always been a bitch and it is not different now.

Kian is suspicious of . Hell, if it was in his shoes, I’d be the sa. I told Kian that my magic wasn’t significant. And I have superseded my mana power up until now to the point that it was undetectable. Maybe I can’t control my mana flow when I use magic, but it doesn’t an I can’t suppress it. I can indeed suppress it, but I suppress it too much. It doesn’t matter in this case anyway. The less the better.

But the magical equipnt I am holding now is sucking my magic power. It is fueled by it. This is why it takes a lot of mana power to operate these guns. There is as to why these types of equipnt are only licensed to higher-ranked adventurers.

The gun drains our magic and fuses it with the bullets. The result is that the greater the magic power, the greater the impact.

I can’t control the impact of the bullets. And the simple fact slipped through my mind when I was taking the gun from Kain. I bla it on the high of the situation. But the problem is how am I supposed to co out clean after Kian’s suspicion over is intensifying?

I don’t try to think about it too much as I shoot down the first wave of guards. I am trained, so I don’t have to bat an eye to know that nobody survived my open fire. The room is overflowing with blood and the rotten stench is so thick that it is almost polluting my lungs. The picture of a neat lavish sitting room feels nonexistent to the bloody scene that I have painted here. Good thing my clothes are black.

My arms hurt from how much I have fired. I have shot down at least eight guards in one go and the barrel of the gun is hot from it as well. The gun is now empty and useless to so I toss it aside. I hold my breath not to let it enter my lungs.

"So how do we kill him?" Kian looks up at . He doesn’t move his head. He doesn’t need to. The way his pupils move is enough to warn and remind that I have screwd up.

I try to ignore the knot tightening around my throat and squeezing. I imagine it’s Kian’s hand. He will do it sooner or later. "We should let Crystal do it." I fight to keep my expression neutral, but I figure it will raise his suspicion because who the hell is supposed to be neutral after murdering a dozen guards? Of course, there are people out there who can. But they are not classified as sympathetic human beings anyway. Guess I should add myself to the list as well.

Kian arches a brow, keeping one eye on Andreas as he wheezes and cries on the blood-clustered carpeted floor. "Alright." I didn’t expect it to be this easy. Surprise flickers through my expression for a brief mont before it disappears.

Kian gets onto his feet and I fetch out the jar where Crustal is still sealed in. I put the jat on the ground and step back to stand beside Kian. Kian forms a few hand seals, and the whoosh of the cold breeze swarms onto the room through the open window. The temperature drops a few degrees and all the candles go off.

Crystal is standing a few feet away from us, looking like an actual ghost that all the children despise. Icicles prickle my skin and my instincts stand at the end of my every nerve, alarmd.

"We will leave Andreas to you," Kian says, his expression impressive and neutral. I want to take lessons from him on how to maintain such a flawless poker face. "We will go search his bedroom from your Saber."

He stalks out of the room, dragging with him. The door shuts behind us with a loud bang and I flinch. I originally wanted to talk with Andreas about Oliver but I am not dumb enough to do it before Kian.

I told Crystal to do it anyway. I kind of manipulated her when Kian wasn’t paying attention to . I kept Crystal with because she seed to like better than Kian. I told her that I was the reason Kian had agreed to track down her killer, so I asked her for a payback. She will get any information about Oliver out of Andreas.

Kian is trudging down the long hallway, his steps deliberate and purposeful. He knows where is going.

"Where are we going?" I can’t help but ask as I jog to keep up with him.

"Andreas’ bedroom." He answers simply.

I know Kian is rushing things because he doesn’t want to risk giving away his face. We are on a highly dangerous and illegal mission. The mission is beneficial to . This is why I am here; I wouldn’t be here otherwise. On the other hand, Kian is risking it all. He has no gain from this mission. He is doing this because...because I simply told him to.

My stomach does an annoying flip at the thought and I trample it down before the seed can bloom into sothing I will absolutely hate.

It seems like Kian has analyzed the house thoroughly before coming here. He stops before a room two stairs down the sitting room on the top floor. He pushes it open, and steps inside. I follow suit.

The room is nothing out of the ordinary. Just a room of a spoiled son of a rich man. Kian and I silently look around the room for a while. By the ti we are done, I am thoroughly disappointed.

"There is nothing here." I don’t bother to mask my irritation.

Kian pretends he didn’t hear . His eyes flicker over sothing behind . He brushes past and approaches the bookshelf behind . I hold my breath as he pushes it aside, revealing a dark passageway hidden behind it.

A secret passageway.
