After I diverted the dragon’s attack, my poncho and arms were half burnt, but I could still move them around without feeling much pain, so I took out a healing potion to treat them.

The Lava Dragon stood still, looking sowhat surprised at the fact that I diverted his lava instead of fully protecting against it.

When the dragon returned to his senses, I saw him posing a slight smile on his face that he quickly covered with his hand.

"It’s been a long ti since soone deflected my attack..." he comnted, not making eye contact with .

"So, is that a yes?" I asked.

Before answering, the dragon approached my group and and stood a few feet away from us while holding his egg in his hands.

"As I said, my priority lies in the protection of this egg. If I help you, will you promise to protect it with your life?" the dragon asked back.

"I promise. The devils won’t lay a finger on this egg," I confidently replied.

The dragon placed the egg against his forehead and closed his eyes, producing a soothing and warm energy that flowed from his body into the egg.

In a strange way, it felt like the love a mother or father would give to their babies, which also gave an understanding of how much the dragon cared for his egg.

Out of curiosity, I asked who the other person was who had deflected his attack in the past.

"His na was Alejandro. He was a powerful sage a long ti ago..." the dragon replied, so I had to tell him everything I knew about Alejandro and the other reincarnators.

The Lava Dragon already had his suspicions about from the very first mont we entered his lair, saying that the outline of my MP resembled that of Alejandro’s.

I didn’t know exactly what he ant by that, but I assud that Alejandro used magic in a similar way that I did, making our MP sowhat similar.

Still, even though Alejandro and the Lava Dragon were good friends in the past, he didn’t have a familiar contract with him.

The Legendary Beast explained that he never had the need or want to beco soone’s familiar, and while he enjoyed the company of Alejandro in the past, he declined his offers to make a contract with him.

"There is no real reason why I declined..." the dragon explained.

"Garon gave the mission to protect the north, so I didn’t think that a familiar contract would benefit , nor was I obligated to accept..." he continued.

Protecting the egg, for so reason, counted as protecting the north, so even if Baelzor had taken over the people’s minds in the northern continent, the Lava Dragon was still following his orders.

Obviously, there was a little bias from the dragon, as he was giving the egg way more protection than he gave the people. However, I thought it was pretty natural for a person or beast to let their parental instincts take over them.

Hypothetically, if I had a mission to protect a city, and protecting my daughter counted as part of this mission, then I would prioritize saving my daughter above everyone else. —not because I’m a bad person, but because it would be the most natural response.

We kept talking with the Lava Dragon for a while, and during this ti, he lowered the output of his energy, so speaking and moving was much easier than when we first entered the cave.

I was getting tired of calling him "you" or "dragon-sir," so I asked if he at least had a na that he liked to go by, which made the dragon think in silence for a few seconds.

"Heh, now you remind of him even more..." the dragon replied, still holding his hand on his chin.

"Back then, Alejandro called Fuego," he continued, his voice sounding sowhat lancholic and nostalgic.

’Fuego? Like ’fire’ in Spanish?’ I thought.

"Wait, so Alejandro gave you a na, but you guys didn’t have a familiar contract?" I asked the dragon.

Fuego shook his head, saying that simply giving a na to a Legendary Beast wasn’t enough to make a contract with them.

The dragon accepted the na that Alejandro gave him, but he didn’t accept the familiar contract. In fact, when we used our "inspect" spell on him, it didn’t show his na anywhere.

In other words, it was more like an unofficial na for the Lava Dragon, but it was much better than nothing.

Once we were done talking, Fuego said he would join us and handed the egg, saying that it was now my mission to ensure its safety.

However, before we left the cave, we asked him if we could camp there for one night since we had to skip our sleep to get there, and Fuego showed no resistance to our request.

We placed a few sleeping bags made by Vespera on the ground, which felt warm from all of the lava flowing under, and while my team took a well-deserved nap, I held the dragon’s egg and kept staring at it for a few minutes.

I could feel the energy flowing inside of it, but it felt nice and soothing, and as I kept admiring it, Fuego approached my side.

"If you feel like it gets too cold, try using phoenix fire to warm it up..." he comnted.

"Huh? How do you know I can do that?" I asked.

"Did you think I wouldn’t notice? I can feel his blessing on you," Fuego replied with a slight smile.

The dragon was talking about Acalan, and he confird to that they were both born on the sa day over 1,000 years ago.

For him, it was as if soone who slled exactly like his brother went inside his ho. Thankfully, the two brothers had a good relationship with each other, or convincing the dragon would have been much harder.

I kept talking with Fuego until I fell asleep, not rembering at what point of our conversation I passed out.

When I woke up, my entire team was having breakfast and getting ready to part, so I quickly joined them and stowed away all of our stuff.

"Where are we going first?" Fuego asked.

"We are eting with so friends. They should be southwest from here..."
